Licanius Trilogy - James Islington. A trilogy I found recently - 3rd part released in 2019. Not seen on many people's fantasy series list but an awesome series cannot recommend enough

Lightbringer series - Brent Weeks. Another I have recently finished - enjoyed this from start to finish. An interesting world build and style of magic . Great at making characters you enjoy, with plenty of layers to them.

Night Angel series - Brent Weeks. One that gets missed off lists as the new series from Weeks does feel a bigger better series, but still I have reread this so many times because it is a great read.

Mageborn series. This is a great series, with sequel and prequel series following on. Great world build, but the very likeable and enjoyable characters are what make it for me.

Malazan series - Steven Erikson & Ian C. Escapement - admittedly this has appeared in other fantasy lists, but just got to include it for the scale of the world building alone. Awesome writing and the fact the two combine and overlap story in their books is incredible. There is a large series , parallel stories and now two prequel series underway - all well worth a read.

Mistborn - Brandon Sanderson - I only included this one as Stormlight Archive series is not complete yet . Great story and again a very clever new world of magic developed.

Wheel of Time - Robert Jordan - hard not to include this (here's hoping for a T.V. series one day) Great characters and a truly great story, maybe struggles through the middle in terms of pace, but I have enjoyed the series a couple of times since first reading.

Raven's Shadow trilogy - Anthony Ryan - a great new series (enjoying his latest currently underway as well) A cool main character and Ryan has created a world that keeps introducing more as you go along. Personal opinion, would make an awesome video game.

Another one I cannot believe I forgot off the list (though been a little while since I read it) is the Riryia series by Michael J. Sullivan - another great story but is so enjoyable for the characters and dynamic between them (another great video game too)

FP edit - never made a post, let alone front page so thanks, glad people are enjoying the list and hopefully some suggestions to try out. Certainly not a complete list of books I enjoyed and always on the lookout for more!

And the typical send books (or whatever) thanks

I always like the First Law Trilogy and related books by Joe Abercrombie

True - both trilogies by him are great.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mistborn is faaaantastic!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We have a very similar taste in books

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yay, another list of books that I won't get to read for years

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well do what I do, save it somewhere and check it out when looking. Or maybe a reference when see it on recommended lists

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, I've a favorites folder titled "books". And another for games and another for movies.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kingmaker, Kingbreaker series by Karen Miller is also fantastic. I picked it up not long after I read the Night Angel trilogy.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have seen it on the Amazon recommended lists, but wasn't sure so appreciate the recommendation

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I picked it up because the spines looked cool. Really neat fantasy setting, and pretty cool looking covers lol.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would be remiss if I didn't encourage anyone interested in epic fantasy to read Will Wight's Cradle series, it's unbelievably creative

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll add it to the list haha

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just started the last of the Licanius trilogy, after finishing the Lightbringer series. So I think you'd like Assassins Apprentice series :)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Based on you reading those two, definitely look into that recommendation

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its 3 interconnected Trilogies. I raced through them in about 3 months while on sick-leave. I loved Mistborn, Night Angel and /1

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.. Stormlight Archive, so I think we have similar taste in Fantasy :)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll check out Malazan and Blood Song :D

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure if it is mentioned, but Scott Lynch's gentlemen bastards sequence is great... Though... It too suffers delays.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

4th book just came out. I'm most of the way through the first

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The 4th book doesn't even have a publication date yet. First draft was submitted last May, but that's all we know so far.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My bad still working on the first. Saw the 4th on my library site thought it was out Thorn of emberlain

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aye it's been "coming soon" for a while now, but alas, no hard data yet.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love and hate these fantasy book posts. My list to buy keeps growing and I can’t keep up but I want them all!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do audio books then you can listen while you work

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately I don’t have that luxury. Customers, for some reason, like to be heard. But good idea though!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am the same, and this is definitely an abridged list - but find helpful to earmark for review when finished latest batch

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have that issue too, plus I want to add all the ones I know but that would be quite the list.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Have made it complete series only so I don't add frustration and more to keep track of (my current problem)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Arcane Ascension 1&2, Weapon and Wielders 1&2 and Broken Mirrors 1-3 all by Andrew Rowe both the books and audiobooks are a treat.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I stopped AA after a few hundred pages. I felt that it was written by a disgruntled man who wanted everyone to know how cerebral he was.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I would have respected your opinion if you would have said it less like an asshole.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wheel of time is getting a TV series just FYI, casting is done and shooting I think has begun.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Fantastic news - I was being jaded I think, heard talk for a while. Sounded like LoTR series had priority but really glad to hear it going!!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just started wheel of time. Loving it so far!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I fantastic series - really hoping TV series does it justice

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You'll love it. Please dont google any names though as it will ruin it for you! Itll give you their titles or accomplishments and alive 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or dead status immedietly and it has spoiled a few spots in the book for me. I'll be happy to answer ?s if u have any. Or get WoT Companion

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I loved the Night Angel series.

6 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

Im reading it right now for first time.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do too. I've read it nearly 5 times over the last 7 years now, and will do again in a year or so.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I keep going back and juts reading my favorite parts over and over, skip the less fun parts

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just bought the trilogy today, should start reading by next week after I finish the final wheel of time book

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a little different writing style, bit if you make it through half the book, you'll love the whole series

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I found the ending a little... off-kilter from the rest of the series tbh

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel it has slipped under quite a few people's radars - but such a good entertaining read. Definitely feel he advances in lightbringer tho

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

He def becomes a better writer by the time Lightbringer came out. I really enjoyed it.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed. Nightangel felt liek there had been made cuts to the story. due to length maybe.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

read black prism. Same author. Amazing magic system.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's literally OP's recommendation right above the Night Angel series.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I know. Which is why i wanted to put some more emphasis on it..?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

First book is super dark, my friends wouldn't go past it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was refreshingly raw and visceral. But yeah, the whole series is dark

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just my opinion, but read Dresden files by Jim Butcher

6 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 1

Even better if you listen to the audiobooks read by James Marsters. Absolutely perfect. Listening to "Ghost Story" (book 13) now.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Love these books

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Codex Alera by JB is also brilliant

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Another great series that gets better as the books progress

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And the best is: Peace Talks will be releases July 17th!

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes but what year? My guess is 2030.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This year. He released a little excerpt from it last week.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oops, typo: It's the 14th!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

YES! YAY! \^_^/

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Meh, I read the first two books, and not impressed. Iron Druid Chronicles is far better.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Agreed. And the author treats writing like a job instead of fucking off for years and leaving his readers hanging.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Sadly the first two books are the weakest & causes ppl to not read further.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Totally agree. I’m rereading the series and just skipped the first two, which are important character building books for first time readers.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I blitzed theu Iron Druid recently, fun, but came off as weak Dresden. Half the fun of Dresden is the long game and hindsight setups

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I would have to disagree, after the first 2 books the Dresden Files is awesome and one of my favorites. After reading both, Dresden IMO.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Malazan is the best by far!

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I see this series on so many of these lists. I read the first 3 books and couldn't get into it at all. .

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is genuinely epic - still can't get over the scale of it and even after all the books always feels there is more to explore

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You might want to check out the Warded Man, not nearly as epic but a pretty cool story

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've never read anything that affected me like the Chain of Dogs and how it ended.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm listening to #1 atm, being read by Micheal Kramer. A really good listen if you enjoy audiobooks.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I struggle with audio books personally - attention span misses key points whereas I can go reread a page. Know some that swear by them tho

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what the rewind 30 seconds button is for. I actually prefer them now, because I can do things, like walk the dog, while listening.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Stormlight archive!

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm really into that series, but not in the list as it isn't finished yet (may be a while too).

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He wants to write like 10 books, its gonna be a while. The way of kings is one of my favorite books ever.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mistborn is amazing. It has 2 different but connected trilogies

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Technically, all of the books set in his Cosmere are connected. Some minor characters are even shared.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The final storm light archive drops this November cannot recommend it enough if you liked mist born

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks I'll check it out

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Final? Thought there were going to be 10 books

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wow you are right I thought the up coming would be the last

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I forget the goal total, but I believe you are right that there will be more than 4.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 from the point of view of the current characters, 5 from the point of view of the heralds.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh, is that what Sanderson is doing for the second cycle?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Read the second trilogy, didn't know if 3rd completed yet but liked what I read so far. The man puts a lot on his plate for sure

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, there's another book in the second era to come. Can't wait

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm currently reading the bands of mourning. Soo good

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think there is a fourth book in the second "trilogy" that was not made yet.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm always down for more

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know I am. Started with stormlight archive. Now waiting for the 4th book. Then started with mistborn. Now waiting for the 7th book. /

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reluctantly started with skyward (because it doesn't belong to the cosmere). Now waiting for the 3th book D: Can't say I'm disappointed tho

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op as i've read pretty much this entire list i feel pretty safe recommending The Cycle of Arawn by Edward W. Robertson

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read it once a while back, doing a reread right now. Fun series.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks, appreciate the recommendation - not come across this one, but it it is in line with the others I'm in

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fantasy setting, unique magic system, characters discovering themselves & globe trotting adventure, and they aren't 100% successful

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nice! I often struggle to put my finger on why I love some books and not so keen on others. Think these are some important factors

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Op you should read kingkiller chronicles.

6 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 9

Personally not my favorite. A little slow at times and he never has the guts to ask out the girl. Jeeezzz

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The main character is an arrogant unreliable narrator, and I personally found that too obnoxious to find enjoyable. Only read book 1 though.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Don’t do it OP he’s never going to release the third book at this rate!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No you shouldn’t...he is never going to finish it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But an awesome read so far admittedly

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

yes, just dont get your hopes up for the next book

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And despair with us while waiting for the 3rd part

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I must be the only person that didn't like those books. Cool idea, but so so boring. Just a crazy number of plot holes and half thoughts too

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

I didn't like them either. I've found quite a lot who feel the same. The experience made me nervous in trying to find more fantasy to read

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't like them either. Guy was a boring narrator who couldn't stop praising himself "I am so good at sex I made a sex demon tired!"

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm in the middle of re-reading them so I gotta ask, what plot holes are ya talking about?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You aren't. They're trash.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Trust me, you're not the only one. First one was really boring, I gave up halfway book 2.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I have read them, didn't include in the list as it isn't finished series yet ( and feel bad giving others that frustrating feeling waiting)

6 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

Yes It's been very long( 10 years almost) wait indeed don't know when 3rd book is gonna publish.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

There is an actual date now, Aug 20, 2020... for what it's worth

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

There isn't, that's a rumoured date that has no confirmation by the author, publisher, or anyone else based on an amazon listing that 1/

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

as has happened with other things listed on amazon is probably just a placeholder date not a factual one. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed, not heard anything about it either so not sure how "in the works" it is. Real shame as I got really into that series

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes every year has been disappointing when doors of stone is not being released.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Its popped up on audible for me as an unavailable book set to release soon. After some digging I found a rumored release in August.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Spellmonger is another you should try out.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not heard of that at all - but the summary of book one sounds right up my street. Thanks for the suggestion.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It has great humor in it. Similar to Brent Weeks humor with a heavy dose of sarcasm. It's a long series with good novellas.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Night angel series is so damn good, a personal favorite.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

One I have read multiple times over past 10+ years - a cool story. I do think lightbringer expands on his writing skills and style though

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know it's pretty well know, I enjoyed the Dragonlance chronicles (Weis and Hickman) and their Death Gate Cycle series. Not much by them<

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

>I don't like.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Death Gate books are great! Very original, although they aren't shy of tropes.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Any love for Wheel of Time???

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I preferred Sword of Truth

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Assume you mean beyond it being on my list. I think it has become a stable of fantasy book collections , with damn good reason.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Always.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd upvote your comment but I need both hands to tug my braid and flatten my skirts.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I really tried to enjoy it, but the characters are so terribly wooden and... just not alive, you know? The women especially.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's my favorite series but some characters were horrible I'll agree. Gawyn might actually be retarded. Lol

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The 4th stormlight archive is being released this November! Until then, I just picked up Rothfuss's Name of the Wind

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Ooh you poor person. Name of the wind is amazing, so is the second. The third *tumble weed* one day...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

4th Stormlight book? Is it possible to sleep until November?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look forward to years of frustration - there must be a club somewhere

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Right. The books are so fakking good and then you find out he's never going to finish the series.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It'll come, it'll come....

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It irritates me that he is so cantankerous about even talking about the series. Gonna pirate that last book if it ever comes out.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yohoho

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 of 10, only another decade and a half till done! Though he writes 10× faster than rothfuss or Martin

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sanderson keeps us updated pretty reliably too, so that's nice.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

TNoTW and its sequel, A wise man's fear, are fantastic. But be warned... we have been waiting a LONG time for Doors of stone.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As long as we're not talking about Steven King's The Dark Tower series length waits I should be able to handle it haha

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, it's been 9 years so far and we have no official release yet. Though rumour has Aug 2020...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He keeps saying it's done, I think he's lying.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rumour has it Aug 2020 will be the release date. I'm not getting my hopes up though

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Amazon is making a WOT series. Here’s to hoping it won’t be another Shannara or Legends of the Seeker!

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Whole heartedly agree

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've read Brent Weeks work, and I don't know how I feel about it. It's not bad, by any means, but it seems like it lacks... something?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't know when I find a series I enjoy I find it hard to describe why fully - and often look past any criticism I have of it

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I liked them. I listened to the audiobooks though, maybe it makes a difference. The humor had me rolling on multiple occasions.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like a book that makes you feel "in it" so the humour actually gets you.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which books - I feel they are well written and intriguing stories, but characters make it for me.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've read the Night Angel and the Lightbringer series. And yeah, they're well written and good enough. Just something always felt 'off'.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had a similar feeling reading them, they read more like what I'm used to from Japanese light novels than American/European fantasy novels.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In some ways it may be quite "contained" though less in lightbringer. But actually feel lends to its readability and focus on characters

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No need to hope for a TV series on WOT, Amazon already in production with some of the characters casted already.

6 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 0

Woooo! Hair tugging and folding arms below breasts.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Think someone is in for an ear boxing.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Burn you!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope they do a better job than what happened to Sword of Truth...

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Well SoT was trash as a book series in the first place.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Luckily for Terry some do like it, up to book 13 I was pretty happy with it and then the Nicci Chronicles and the new The Scribbly Man

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have been so excited waiting for this haha

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The casting looks like absolute shit, and the producer seems iffy as well

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I only know 2 of the actors, Moraine and Tam. But I like them both, I hope to be surprised!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shite based on what though, are they not well known or known for bad work. I'll take an unknown over "popular" but wrong fit

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hoping for an accurate tv series someday. Won't be rafe's abomination he's already been crying about the rand harem being problematic.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Sorry, what are you talking about?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Rand has 3 wives

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, I know, I'm on book 11 now. But who is "rafe" that @angeladelamuerte is referring to?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Showrunner for WoT

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's red ajah without a doubt sadly

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who is?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are already making episode 5. Sounds like they're doing four episodes per book

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Four episodes per book? Oof that's going to be a lot of stuff left out. Fingers crossed it doesn't suck.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you mean they are already onto book 2?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmm.. while that does seem short, assuming 1hr+ episodes, that's still better than what we'd get with movies. Also, if they're doing 8 ..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

episode seasons, that's still a 7-8 year investment for Amazon.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fingers crossed!! Feel like been hearing it for a while, but looks like progress ?

6 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Its well on the way at this point. Actors and actresses posted, and some filming under way

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wouldn't be WoT if it didn't take years longer than expected to produce. Keeping it accurate to the source!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wheel of time tv show summary so far on yt: https://youtu.be/D1Pe-1n8E40

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like other have said, it's in production, filming in Europe, looks like it'll be out in 2021 according to rumour (no official date yet).

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sanderson and harriet are both involved in the production iirc so hopefully they will help keep it on track and true to the books

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well, true to the important parts. A bit faster character development on Nynaeve would be nice.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She is defined by her stubbornness. That's why her development is slower, she refuses to change.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is of course fine but when I re-read the books I was really annoyed at how badly written the women-men “conflict” is. N is the worst..1

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do we know where they start, since Loial is in the cast.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Book 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do you mean? Loial is in the first book.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah assume it would be first season

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he is.. to many books since I read them, not since the last book.. so maybe its to refresh my memory

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When Mat and Rand go to Camelyn the first time after Shadar Logoth is when they meet him

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yes, I looked it up :) thank you for the update.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lemme just say, I love the Malazan books. The scale is immense and the imagination of everything is all on its own. But the writing is »

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

clunky AF. Rather, it has a kindergarten level of exposition. There is almost no mystery and no subtlety. Everything will be explained »

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ad nauseum. And I get it. Because the writers originally wanted to make an RPG but ended up writing the books. But if you like the kind »

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of storytelling that GOT gave you, you will be disappointed. There's no hidden character motivations, you just get it all told to you

I disagree, there just so many characters it's hard to give all depth. But motivations, sides and actions all change as more story unfolds

Yeah but I feel that those things don't get shown so.much as just told. Like we get it all explained

It's in depth but needed to create scale of world, you fall in middle of it from book 1 and always learning new. Overly critical I would say

It's my only criticism

But calling it kindergarten seems a very exaggerated criticism. Think writing is very high level, had me interested for 12+ long books

Content wise sure. I personally feel that this series does not have a very developed way of handling characters or deeper meaning. Period.
