I'm new to this, my first "serious" post so I'm sure things could be better.

So, I'm Dutch, and the image above is what my country would look like if we stopped fighting the sea. I personally would be swimming.
However, XKCD once theorised what would happen if the water was drained from earth to, for this example, mars. In a nutshell, global Dutch domination.
I made a bunch of screenshots on my phone and posted them below.
Enjoy the reads down below, source at the end.

Cat tax, my beautiful Salem, having the high ground

Cat tax 2, Salem, once again having the high ground, stalking my danger noodles

This is interesting.

I just went to the netherlands! Had a great time. Ended up in a tiny fishing village called yerseke(have a friend that lives there)

Just read the book instead, it's awesome.

What about Atlantis? Either we'll have a lot of dead mermaids or another civilization will take earth by sea.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What about Earths atmosphere?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or maybe, don't build your country so close to the water...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why would you even do this!? Just...https://what-if.xkcd.com/53 ...for fucks sake! It's easier to read AND doesn't lose hidden commentary.

Waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy to long

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are two kinds of people I can't stand: people intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lang niet gek!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please don't do this again. Post one picture and a link to xkcd. No one wants to read an entire article broken up like that on a mobile.

Or, at least on android, there is a "scroll capture" option when taking a screenshot. The option shows right when you first ss. Then cut up.

You want water planet kamino? cause thats how you get water panet kamino

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder if that means they'll let the Germans design the railways

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The masses of both planets will change. Will that affect the pull of gravity with the sun?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Atlantic will win

Harderwijk in ‘t natte huis!!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm learning dutch atm. I now can read it, still can't understand shit tho.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It doesn't mean anything, literally translated it reads: Harderwijk in the wet house (Harderwijk is a city). Perhaps it was an inside joke?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not one mention how Russia and the Yukon would share a border after 100 meters

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I noticed, but I'm not surprised. That's basically the Bering land bridge that people crossed 15,000 years ago to populate the Americas.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think we would reverse our capabilities and landlock water to make reservoirs thus saving the world!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please use a desktop to make these screenshots, so we don't have to scroll through a million pictures? Or a better idea: just post a link.

TIL The Netherlands' plan for global expansion and dominion.

Fun fact: There's a Dutch comic called Storm, where an astronaut is taken to the far future to a alien planet that is eventually revealed...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...to be Earth, but drained of most of its seas. Good read, in that 60's Science Fiction Cover art way.

My biggest take-away from this: It's 9°

To those who skip and say tl:dr. Stop. Take a sec. Explore xkcd. The questions are insanely interesting. Like you have better things to do.

What if we've already read it all.. At least twice

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will later I promise I'm going to watch amazing race

This is xkcd's sister site, whatif.xkcd.com

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok not tl,dr. But too drink can't read. Is there a vid that can tell me the same things?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Probably

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's really sad he stopped doing the what-ifs.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

same, i really miss them. I have both his books, and i think they mighta killed his passion for it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow!! That was beautiful. What if the amount of water introduced act as a shield and gets the ball rolling to create an atmosphere that

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

isn't loosing as much to space and it could in turn cause the magnetic field to regenerate.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since the sun isn't as violent as couple of billion years ago, Mars may stand a chance. Let's drain the oceans! I'm gonna like the Netherlan

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then the dutch conquer Mars

8 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 1

The damn Dutch...I knew this day would come

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Already there draining the water, hence the rover never finds any.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It shouldn't be understated, either. Imagine the BS they're going to have to deal with when the water level rises because of global warming!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Dutch don’t conquer, they build trading posts, become insanely rich and blow all their money on tulip bulbs

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

But we would get to speak Ditch which is nice

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Helemaal goed mensen! *translation: all right people

Anyone know how the massive amounts plants' and animals' dying carcasses would affect the atmosphere? I'm sure it would smell everywhere 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But would there be any gases given off that would affect it in any noticeable way? Like toxic gases that don't do anything in small 2/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Quantities but, on a massive scale like this, may do some damage. 3/3

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't most of the bigger fish bodies(whales and the like) be sucked into the portal and end up on mars? I mean the start of the article

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

states that a portal that size could take a battleship or whatever and fold it in two from the pressure, so I imagine it would suck a large

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

portion of the fish life into the portal along with the water. Maybe not all, but maybe between 1/4 and 1/2? Still an incredible amount

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As the saying goes: “God created the earth, the Dutch created Holland”

8 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 2

What about Holland oats though?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There’s only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people’s cultures, and the Dutch.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I like GOOOOOOOLD

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

*The Netherlands

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*created the Netherlands (I'm very sorry)

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Technically you're correct: we didn't create the entirety of the Netherlands, but we did create most of Holland

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have no reason to be sorry! The Netherlands is much more than just Holland.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I know, I was born and raised there :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And God didn’t create the earth, but we’ll overlook that too! You see, it’s a saying! It’s a joke! Quite a Germanic sense of humour I detect

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dutch friend refers to NL as Holland in english.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know these kinds of people as well. It's a widespread problem. Mostly for people living outside of the 'Holland' 'region'

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically you’re correct of course, however, try explaining that to a foreigner! Out of interest: what name is shouted at internationals?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At the soccer matches?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The wrong one.
