1) That is awesome. 2) I was afraid that I was waiting for someone to touch it.

I was afraid one or both would shatter for some reason.

It’s awesome how mesmerizing this is still is and knowing that humans have been doing this for hundreds if not thousands of years

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Humans are kinda neat when we're not being ass-hats. I do like thinking of how cool human ingenuity is.

pottery is a 20,000 year old invention

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

isn't this cloisonne

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Porcelain is only about 2,000 years old, though.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Baked Enamel?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, pretty sure this is enameling not ceramics per se.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I miss doing this. Well, I never did it THAT well, but still. I miss doing this even at my mediocre skill level.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What? How? What?

It all glows red. It hides the true colors until it cools enough to not be glowing

Cloisonne

u(λ,T)=8πhcλ51ehcλkT−1

Exactly the most precise and nerdiest way to explain it.

Amazing.

A glazing.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Love that.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Must have been at least 50 degrees

You are technically correct.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The best kind of correct.

I think it's cloisonné tho which isn't pottery well if you use pottery to mean ceramics which mostly people do even though these are pots

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Naturally I'm going to steal that. :)

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Okay, they're not glowing anymore. You can pick them up barehanded now.

I would be really mad at myself but I cannot say with certainty that I wouldn’t ... like ... get a text, and then maim my hand via my ADD.

Ugh. Someone told me a story about a woman who dropped a piece of jewelry into a deep fryer at McDonald's and instinctively reached in...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. Terrible. I worked at Arby’s @ age 16, after closing, we were cleaning, Mgr. was walking, slipped and instinctively thrust her arm 1/3

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

back behind her to break her fall. As she fell she went bicep-deep in the fryer, which had only been turned off for a few minutes 2/3

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But in that few minutes had cooled enough that it only severely burned her skin. It took a few sec to get out she could have cooked her arm.
