I'm the manager of food services for a low income seniors facility.  I've seen a few posts with food from  nursing homes and seniors facilities and wanted to share what the foods like at my place.

I see you there, lightly fried fish filet. +1

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Take me there when I stop caring if I poop myself.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is way beyond the quality the average American eats...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am also a Chef at a retirement home in the States. This album inspired me to post one as well. Hopefully mine changes your opinion a tad?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My grandma would take two bites from these and throw the rest away.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I love senior citizens. The elderly are some of the wisest, honest, most insightful people on this planet, and thank you for doing what u do

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for caring so much for these people. I'm a pretty cold hearted bastard but this post brought tears to my eyes. You're an angel.

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Hahaha thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Well well well....this is impressive.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think I am ready for retirement.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As someone who worked in a nursing hm thank you for making this and thanking for what you do. I know you guys work hard with what you have

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

@OP, you are kind; you are good; you are important. Thank you for being able, willing, and proud to serve the less fortunate.

9 years ago | Likes 348 Dislikes 1

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

You are a good person making a real positive difference in the lives of those around you. Hopefully your post will inspire others to follow.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you for treating your clients like people. Meals are some of the only joys these people get.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's 10 pm, and now I'm starving for half of this shit. I dislike you, but +1 for feeding old people real food.

9 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

*turns up nose* I only eat Yale beets

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hahaha!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can I have the address? I won't feel that guilty sending,my mom there.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You can pm me for it. I'm in Canada

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You could maybe wait until she's retired, though.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

My father is a food service director of a nursing home kitchen as well. When he first came home he was broken, said they were using "molds"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

to make the puree shit look like real pieces of chicken/beef. And not just for the people who needed it pureed. The look on his face when he

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

saved/changed enough to get quality ingredients was amazing, like he just had his dream come true. Keep up the good work!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks, and thanks to your father!

#2 FYI: Shepherds Pie is made with Lamb, Cottage Pie is made with Beef. (There is also a rarer St Stephens Pie made with Turkey & Ham).

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Didn't know this thanks for the info.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

St Stephen's Pie sounds great might have to hunt down a recipe.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also Admiral Pie...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To hazard a guess and say I need Turkey Mince for it? 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm English I should know this, I feel a little ashamed. Shepherds/Cottage and Cumberland for that matter are the bees knees. I'm going 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"That looks delicious...perhaps we should cut your funding." - Republicans, probably

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Hahaha I'm Canadian

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sadly that makes sense. I worked in the States med transportation between nursing homes. Only saw this quality in SUPER high income places.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't you ruin this for me with your facts.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahaha sorry

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is not what the food looks like at a low income nursing home in the states. Bravo to your facility.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I intern at a non-profit assisted living day program, and we serve great food to the clients! It makes me jealous. (live in CO)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, sadly I assumed right away this is not the US. I'm afraid we'll be served canned & powered meals when our time comes, but maybe not

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's not the quality serves in Quebec's hospitals went you give birth. Far from that quality. Has to cost less then 3$ par person daily.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but how much does the actual birth cost in Quebec?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My food budget hovers around $3.50 a dinner. That includes the dessert, soup, salad and dinner. I have advantages though bring non profit

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What kind of budget do you get to work with? Or how does that all work.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I'm subsidized by the government. We're non profit

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

As another person working for a non-profit, you rule.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah but where are the two cups of juice?

9 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 4

THIS COMMENT.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I put juice out on the counter. They can have 3 glasses if they want!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Scrolled down here to assure someone commented exactly this. Was not disappointed. +1 haha

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OP doesn't work at a rehab

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Duece juice stays in a nursing home, not a rehab.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Fuck outta here

9 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 13

Omg. I would have never thought I would see the logo I made on someone else's post XD

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Hahaha I get that reference.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Can I have a turnover tho?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Can I stay there too?

9 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 0

As long as you're over 60 and low income for sure!

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Where is this facility? I saw fish n chips so I'm thinking Britain.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, I'm in BC Canada

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn it. I know some people who could use a nice retirement home like that. Figures that it's in Canada.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish I could help :(

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 28 and low income... if I find a 32 years old with low income, can we split meals?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do yous have a cafeteria I can come eat lunch at? I'll pay whatever you want.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Would be a good opportunity to allow some socializing for the elderly

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We do events like garage sales open to the public and we serve hotdogs and stuff like that. We have a great activity director

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is a remarkably good idea. @OP, look ^

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I totally second this !

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you for caring about people and seeing your job as an act of service to a human being.

9 years ago | Likes 1339 Dislikes 4

Yeah... it's cool and all, but do they give them double juices?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You could cut your marketing budget for this place and just forward them this link

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Just about to say that this care home appears to have staff that care & live what they do x

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks! I love doing what I do

9 years ago | Likes 216 Dislikes 1

I actually started to tear up thinking about how great this was, old people deserve people like you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You are beyond inspiring, OP. Sending so much gratitude.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can tell, it looks great.

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

As someone who's been a dietary aide in the past, thank you for taking care of your residents. I still miss those that I worked with.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you love it, it's made with love, and that makes all the difference

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thnx again for the +1 for my hope in the humanity...!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This must be Canada, with the butter chicken plate. Delicious!!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Can I live there? The food looks incredible! Way to go

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Providing nutritious, made-from-scratch food to low-income senior citizens? YOU are doing God's work, my friend. What a fantastic post!!!

9 years ago | Likes 3205 Dislikes 9

Food of this quality instills a dignity in people. Hope this person knows how much his or her work makes an immediate dent in the real world

9 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 0

Amen to this and good shit @OP

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't insult this person. They're doing a good humans work. Gods work consists of genocide, hate-crimes and mass murder on a global scale.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

People like vik here are the reason nursing home staff have such a bad rep. It's about money, and not the people.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 6

My company is non profit so other than providing our income there's no actual money being made

9 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

That's how Healthcare f@#$ing should be.

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

I'm a low income apartment housing manager for seniors. Apparently my job is not God's work, at least that's how it feels with all the /1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/2 complaints about how we never take care of anything ... and we certainly do! it's just hard to get seniors to stop picking on eachother!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A nursing home ive volunteered at had bacon wrappdd shrimp

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I upvoted your comment and realized I should probably the post as well. Also; everyone has one, no one wants to see yours

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I read that in the "Weakest Link" voice. You AAARRRREEE doinggodswork. Goodbye!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Humanities work.*

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 515 Dislikes 1

it really shows that you put effort in your job OP, anyone who understands the difficulty of the challenge will say the same.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It looks good but shepherds pie and cottage pie are two different things.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep. One beef and ones lamb. Lamb doesn't go over so well and it's expensive here

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm only 25, any room for me at your seniors facility? That food looks awesome.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would u be willing to share any of ur recipes, or make posts about how to make them???

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Hahaha sure you could always pm me. I don't really use recipes but I could drum them up

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Good on ya man, Canadian from NB here, you're doing good work.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I need that sticky banana steamed pudding recipe @OP

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Sure. Pm me and I'll try to get it for ya

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

While I'm sure it tastes amazing, who ever thought up that tamale should be taken of or put on some sort of medication

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to die there!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The size of that battered fish.....mmmmm

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I missed "low income" and had the thought "oh what a cunt, showing off and shit". I was wrong, I apologize. You're good folk.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But remember that it's in Canada. I hope we have any food like that for low income facilities anywhere in the U S.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm about to graduate with a degree in dietetics. Y'all hiring?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I use dieticians to submit my menu too but we don't have any on site. Sorry

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok but... hear me out. You got anywhere we can find the recipes. My mouth is watering just looking at that tamale.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I pretty much wing everything but if you pm me I could drum recipes up

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't you lie to me you modest mouse. Those ribbs don't lie. But will do.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hahaha

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sure it's better than most, but it could be more nutritious. More veggies, less carbs and next to zero sugar.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

1) Later note: I'm also in contract with the local health authority. I am required to serve a certain percentage of carbs with every meal.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2) my menu and food is regularly reviews by dieticians and submitted to the local authority

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Some of those desserts are diabetic and I have options for any dietary restrictions. I try to look at them as individuals

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My uncle is a French chef and has worked in fancy restaurants all his life until 5 years ago when he started working in a nursing home 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

He loves his job and spends every holidays with the seniors and make them special dishes when he can. They all love him too :)

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Does he ever serve your username?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe cause http://imgur.com/tjQN64a

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your uncle is awesome!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So are you! http://imgur.com/vQnS3cv

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't see any fucking bacon, you monster. Abusing the elderly like that...

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Hahaha I serve that when I do breakfasts

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

In all seriousness, that food looks great... I bet you even bake the bacon for breakfast. I'm hungry now.
