This just in, and sadly most of the comments say "I don't care, as long as they keep making good games". They're not the only company in UK doing this, and every time the government tries to change the law, they threaten to pack up and leave, taking all the jobs with them.

Sources: https://boingboing.net/2019/07/30/grand-theft-taxation.html

What does anyone care what another entity pays in taxes? Especially a company that uses whatever tax loophole the government lets them use?

Rockstar is literally acting like they things they parody. They've become the "Its Just Jokes Bro" of corporations...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why not do the fair thing and exempt everyone from taxes?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Same in The Netherlands. Won't change anytime soon I'm afraid

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They learned from the oil company multi-nationals soaking the USA for all they possibly can.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

About time Rockstar Games were put in the spotlight. They can't believe how lucky they've been with the rest of the industry taking the heat

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Profiting at the expense of others... it's rampant everywhere.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Vote with your wallet.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

They all do it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't give a fuck if it's 'legal,' if you do it, you're skeezy, & you're stealing off legit taxpayers. Fuck you & the whore you rode in on

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

tell them to pack up and go. places that don't charge taxes are not places that it is safe to do business.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this pisses me off not because i know how they do it. the fact that they can get away with it because most tax authorities are discouraged

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

to conduct audits on such businesses. even then its hard to see these things, i should know i do this for a living

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Only one thing to say, and Lemmy said it best : https://youtu.be/1pMVfpKBuyI?t=60

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which is why France is talking about taxing income rather than profits

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, they did spend that last 20 years creating a crime simulator

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And people actually think these multinational corporations have their "home country"s best interests in mind. They just siphon our wealth

6 years ago | Likes 272 Dislikes 6

This is why I like national corporations. They at least have to live in the countries they shit in.

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

And provide you jobs.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 40

42 Million pounds should be enough money to provide a similar amount of jobs...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The hate for globalism is strong here.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't hate globalism, but we should have strong policy to protect us from exploitation that is enabled by globalism. Acknowledging

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

These corps don't natively act in our interests is a good step.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's trashy if you're poor, but classy if you're rich?

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Getting money from the government

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Exec's pocketing multi-million dollar bonuses while doing rolling layoffs of employees that pay more taxes than the companies.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I can't wait to hear how this is the fault of millennials

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait. I thought this sort of thing only happened in the U.S. Has social media lied to me?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

You forgot the /s. I hope.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

only partial sarcasm. Was also making a point; just in a crass manner.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It kinda happens everywhere. Tax havens are cancer, as are loopholes.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And people have the balls to argue that they NEED to put microtransactions and predatory garbage in their games cuz they haz no monie

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They never, EVER "needed" to. All that happened was they found a way to make even more money and profit than usual, so it became standard

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I honestly think this is disturbing. When companies make profit but ask for relief. It's not right.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Jim Sterling has a good rant about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3giVPhSCAOQ

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Aye, saw that just yesterday, not surprising - just sad.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank GOD for him!

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's a game of chicken that the companies would definitely lose, but our government, corrupt or not, is unwilling to play. "Move jobs...

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

... elsewhere."? Ok, your games can not be sold in the US. Wal-Mart's can't operate there. Other businesses would gladly fill the holes...

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

..I am not an economist, though. Love to hear others'no opinion on this.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Also not an expert, but have also thought shutting down the gravy train might change their tune. Just don't allow them to do business if

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

they aren't willing to pay a reasonable amount of taxes and compensate their employees. Play ball or we shut you out of a major market.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I learned about this in my first accounting class. America has the same loopholes companies exploit

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

America has worse loopholes and more of them. But don't worry I'm sure Boris will make sure we catch up lol.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GTA 5 has the most generated revenue of any other media in history. Them not paying taxes is a travesty

6 years ago | Likes 159 Dislikes 3

It is going to make even more now that they added an unregulated casino to the game. Shark cards everywhere.

6 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Depends on the region but yeah. It's ridiculous.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

R* tracks what cash is earned in-game and what is purchased through shark cards, you cannot use shark card cash in the new casino.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Says them.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can, just in a roundabout way. Buy a car, sell it back, the money is no longer tagged as bought via real money.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Of course money laundering is the solution in a crime simulator.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is this gambling? "ooh no, it's not gambling" it's a literal casino "Yes, it LOOKS like a casino, and... umm, HEY LOOK OVER THERE!"

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Oh shit, I didn't even think of that

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In a casino you can eventually wion money, in R* Casino u cant.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And there is the fact they actually control the odds.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So legally its not gambling because you can only gamble in game currency, which you can of course buy with RL money. Loopholes R Us 1/

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yet if you go a Atlantic City and buy chips, Effectively in casino currency it is still gambling so I don't get how that works.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

You can cash out casino chips and make money. You can't cash out rockstar cash to real money.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Damn it. How am I going to boycott Rockstar? WalMart, no prob. Hobby Lobby, check. But Rockstar? Fuuuuuuuck.

6 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 17

simple, just boycott the shark cards

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Just don't buy their "shark cards".

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If it helps, their latest DLC literally allows you to gamble with real money. (Though I don't think you can cash out)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nope, I don't even play online. Out in the sticks on HughesNet, it's not an option.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, you don't have to play to realise that that might be a dodgy development choice =P.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... Don't buy the games? Isn't that rather easy? I bet you have a backlog of a "few" games, play those instead.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I do not. Not your "typical" gamer, or really even a gamer at all. I pretty much only play Rockstar.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh they only put out a game every 5 years.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup, and that's when I purchase a game. I can count on one hand the number of games I enjoy, and 4 of them are Rockstar.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Do what I did: don't buy RDR2 and don't spend any money in GTA. I found the last part hard, because I like the shiny updates. But fuck em.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't play online anyhoo.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They make like 1 game every 6 years, just don't buy it.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, as I've replied to every other comment that said exactly the same thing: I pretty much only play Rockstar. Yes, I've tried other 1/

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

games. Yes other games are objectively as good/ much better. Rockstar games just get me/only ones I get into. No, I don't know why.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's really weird.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh. So it goes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shouldn't be that hard. You're talking the difference of like one purchase every 7 years

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup, and those are pretty much the only games I play.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That money came largely from microtransactions. You don't have to boycott their games, just don't buy the money/gold packs.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I never do anyhoo.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The whole game is built around you buying that shit. It's the whole reason the software exists.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what's up with hobby lobby?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on your ideology. Maybe nothing, maybe everything.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

*existential crisis ensues*

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are very right wing and instill that through employee policies, if I'm putting it ridiculously nicely.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How to boycott a game company but you still like the games? YAR HAR!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

its easy when you realize their gameplay is outdated and boring.

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

And it's not if that's the niche you prefer. For instance, I fucking hate COD.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I think GTAV is the most overrated game ever. Just so boring. I get that I am a minority in this.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I drag race irl. The driving amuses me.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I suppose it makes pirating morally legal. Just getting the game for the price of tax they evaded.

6 years ago | Likes 134 Dislikes 11

I like your style.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

No it doesn’t. Boycott is fine, but you have to go without the thing you are boycotting.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No it fucking doesn't. Stealing from the rich is still stealing no matter how you justify it.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Imgur has a problem with critical thinking. "I don't want this, so I'll steal it"

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It doesn't make it morally legal at all. Just don't consume their games.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 13

Agree with the don't consume their games part. Even through piracy you make their community grow and become more popular

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People bitch and moan yet the top ten games belong to EA, Bethesda, and Rockstar.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's exactly why they pull this shit. Especially EA. They corner the market and kill any alternative options.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FIFA being the key one.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They don't care about being moral so I don't too.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those "morals" were propagated into your brain by the very people who profit from that ignorance

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well yeah, but what am I going to pirate? Bully? RDR isn't even on pc and GTA V is almost entirely online.

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

There are self hosted online servers, they are even better than rockstars, because they are not stuffed with microtransactions.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bully was underrated, but true- fair point.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

It's a beautiful game and I think everyone is excited for the second one.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're making another one??

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if you didn't buy shark cards for gta online: congratulations, you already boycott rockstar.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GTA V story mode is a thing. I pirated it and no problems.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Story Mode is amazing though, if I hadn't already beaten it half a dozen times, I'd probably never touch online.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Rockstar is just playing by the rules. If you wanna be pissed blame the people who make the rules.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 19

How about both?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I make the rules. My own rules, for myself. And by my rules, piracy is A OK.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not sure why you're getting downvoted; you're right. They are operating legally. They're just doing what companies do: making money. (1/4)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

As a publicly traded company, Take Two actually has a fiduciary duty to do everything it can to maximize profits (within the law). (2/4)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The problem really is the laws that allow them to do this. It's the frog and the scorpion, plain and simple. If a bear escapes from an (3/4)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

unlocked enclosure at a zoo and mauls someone, you don't get mad at the bear, you get mad at the zookeeper who left the door unlocked (4/4)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From what I can tell people feel its morally wrong that Rockstar does this. And as soon as you introduce emotion into topics like this 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People are gonna be reactive instead of proactive. They’re just downvoting cause they’re pissed regardless if I’m right

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't seem to reach the people who make the rules. I can boycott those who abuse the rules. Legality isn't the issue here, it's morality.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You’re not morally obligated to pay more than you owe. Ever. Fix your taxing system like France is doing and stop crying. Call a rep.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My country is working on a France like system. But you are morally obligated to follow the spirit over the letter of the law.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First of all, that's not what "boycott" means. Second, it's a bit of a prisoners dilemma for them: it's ALWAYS going to be in their (1/2)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

best interests to pull this shit, no matter how many people stop buying. The laws (and enforcement thereof) really are the issue (2/2)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait not buying product of those who I know abuse tax laws isn't a boycott? What is that called then?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On an individual basis, it's called... well, just what you wrote. It's only a boycott if it's widespread. "We" can boycott; "I" can't (1/2)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buy used copies of their games?

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And wait a year? Nnnnnnnnngggggggg......

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

Wow, you really have a problem with your need for instant gratification, don't you? You may need therapy.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For the 3 or 4 video games I play, which are generally released twice a decade? I may, but not for that.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Um.. There's new games in the used sections a week after release. There's ALWAYS people returning new games because of disappointment & shit

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm not close to a game store except GameStop, which at least in my area, doesn't offer a large discount for used until it's a bit older.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The point wasn't to get it cheaper. The point was to boycott Rockstar.. But rather than boycott, get a used copy and Rockstar gets nothing.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would that be hard?

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Because having the newest most hyped up game is paramount for the modern gamer.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am not a typical gamer. I pretty much only play Rockstar.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gotta be honest, that sounds pretty "typical gamer" if I'm being honest. Rockstar games releasing are mainstream events lol

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never met another Rockstar fan who didn't also play other games. I've never played COD, Halo, etc. Typical gamers only play GTA? think not

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because I pretty much only play Rockstar.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Broaden your horizons, then. Try something like Horizon Zero Dawn!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, graphics look good, but rpgs have never hooked me.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've tried a lot of games. It's not for lack of horizon. Just that a few of the Rockstar games are what really gets me into gameplay.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Horizon Zero Dawn is also an open world game. But in the future with robotic dinosaurs! Try it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4-FCsiF5x4

I insist that you go on

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They won't. They just put their phone on vibrate

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm sure that is Rockstars strategy. I use to like rockstar as a co b/c they stuck it to all the other companies and went outside the box (1

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2) but now they are just like the other corporate game makers.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not just gaming.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As well as many other corporations.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And yet with all the bitching, the gaming community still keeps buying. Gamers truly don't know what they want, they are right.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is one of the reasons I more or less just stick with Nintendo. They don't dabble into the bs as far as the others do. Not that their

Hiding profits in tax havens, firing hundrets of employees after they made record profits while paying the ceo millions extra in bonuses ...

6 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 2

Fire community managers then immediately hire the same number of community managers, new people they can pay less.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sources for this? Consider that hiring in different countries is not the same thing

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dont forget, they're currently hiring for the positions they just let go in that massive layoff

6 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

Do you have sources for this? Because AFAIK they're relocating resources and hiring for completely different positions

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also while citating the source mind that on top of the layoffs some of the other employees quit which they have to naturally rehire

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's because after a layoff there's some bleed out, and they lost more people than they anticipated. My roommate wasn't cut, but he was 1

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Filling a vital role, and he got disgusted and quit shortly after the layoff, forcing them to rehire some positions they just cut. 2

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They don't. I used to work for blizzard, I still know people there. They laid off people like QA, localizations and others, mainly in non-HQ

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

But they're hiring programmers and art into HQ. They're still shady assholes though and were a big part of why I changed my career, together

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

They also gutted the community teams, which they're hiring up for again since everyone else left. My friends let go from there are livid.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Microtransactions being added to Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled despite saying that would never happen is a recent stunt.

No, anytime someone says nothing middle class taxes go up. A marginal tax would do nothing to middle income while taxing the $$$$

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that is not true, the rich used to pay a lot more.the rich pay less and less last few decadesbecause rightwingers pass those laws.undo them!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Once time I managed to get into top tax bracket for making crazy sum of around $30k in a year. (Not in US, just translated the money)

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of those countries, where they elected someone who will fix everything including acne by taxing the rich, ~$30k was 3X the average pay

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

which made me the rich to be taxed....

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not gonna publicly say where at, would make me easily doxable.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Capital Gains tax rates need to go up. Almost all taxable investment accounts (non-retirement) are owned by the very rich

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Blogg's pension is in there too.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

almost all? lol that is most ridiculous. people from every class use taxable investment accounts else no retirement for middle class

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They really don't. 84% of stocks are owned by the top 10% and that includes retirement, college savings, etc.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The issue is more about closing loop holes than increasing %, which will never happen at this point.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

ofc it can and will, it has been lowered and i can be increased again. no reason not.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This actually isn't about loopholes. Truly.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

whats 90% of $0?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a tax credit thing. Designed to stimulate the industry. Government policy and all that. Films, high end TV etc aldo benefit.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. Top 10% pay 75%~ of all taxes and top 1% pay ~26% of all taxes. Rich pay more than fair share.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 46

Rich and poor pay the exact same level of taxes on each part of their income. Top earners only pay more because they have all the wealth

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The top 1% own 38% of wealth and only post 26% of taxes. Your math is flawed.

6 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 4

That is not a flaw. They have make more so they pay more, even more of a percentage. That technically is unfair.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

They pay LESS as a percentage. They own MORE of the wealth but don't pay proportionate taxes on that wealth. You are BAD at math.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one pays taxes on wealth. That is unconstitutional. And they pay a larger percent of their income then anyone else.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And what does it matter how much someone else has? It has nothing to do with you. They pay way more than you and you think that's unfair. Ha

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well heres a guy who understood

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People DON'T grasp why the class brackets are getting FURTHER apart.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Has a lot more to do with the US dropping it's top marginal tax rate from 91% in the 60s to 37% now.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The most annoying thing is that they blame the taxes as the evil. Taxes are made to even out class differences, they are not your enemy!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Taxes... are not meant to even out class differences. They have a functional purpose (e.g. upkeep for schools and other public services)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Yes, that's evening out class differences. Rich people pay more tax, fund schools so all can afford education, even those who pay little tax

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yep, funny how US infrastructure went to shit after Reagan ease up on the industrial and business taxes

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But if you pay more taxes and the rich pay less taxes you get more money through trickle down! It makes sense if you don't think about it.

6 years ago | Likes 401 Dislikes 15

the ultimate platitude

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

more tax breaks! Lol

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

give all the grains to the horse, then the sparrow can eat shit and die.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Isn't trickle down economics the same diagram as a pyramid scheme?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aaaaaany decade now...

I love the warm yellow tinkle of it coming down on us

Yeah but i could do without the asparagus smell.

Stop it, R. Kelly!

There really isnt a more fitting image to sum up the republican party, and politicians in general. They were supposed to represent citizens.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

God bless the Gipper

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shhhh don't think about it, brown people scary! They're gonna take your jobs and your homes and your daughters! Ignore the rich vampires!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Is this sarcasm? It’s hard to tell in type.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 5

Are you being sarcastic?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wasn’t I was just being dumb and missed the word “don’t” so I’m ironically the idiot.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's acthal mentality of the right wing politicians, at least in America

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

no politician actually believes this, its just the story they tell to truck drivers and plumbers to get them to vote for rich interests

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well, if you pinch real hard, you might get a hint of sarcasm in the closure "it makes sense if you don't think about it"

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I freely admit I missed that it said “don’t”. Sorry @HerrHat for missing that, quite funny - me dumb.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think in this case it's pretty easy to tell it's sarcasm

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not really when you look at the state of the world

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No wait, I missed the word “don’t” and I’m an idiot

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's why there are ways to delineate sarcasm (eye rolling, "/s", etc.)... But people don't use them from whatever reason

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

I think it's fun to toe the line

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or a phrase such as ‘It makes sense if you don’t think about it’ which indicates the absurdity of the preceding claim.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I missed the word “Don’t!” Sorry

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Odd, my taxes went down last year and I am middle class.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 18

define "middle class", and explain why one data point should matter when discussing an international issue

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

that's ok, your grandchildren will pay on your behalf

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's a very broad range of income

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

mine went up, and I run a small business

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's almost like a should have lower taxes in general. Governments are addicted to money, and you don't give crack to a crack addict.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 18

I may suggest you don’t look at the deficit then. For every action...

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Everyone's did a little bit. People who make a lot of money had theirs go down a lot

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

unless they were in a blue state and got fucked out of their state tax deduction

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My taxes as a grad student went up...?

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You did not redo your w2 form correctly then, or at all. Do the actual math on previous years. You paid less. Unless you itemized.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

We paid 24% more this year and went down a tax bracket. So no, not everyone.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You did not redo your w2 form correctly then, or at all. Do the actual math on previous years. You paid less. Unless you itemized.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

False.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only made 3 mil last year, barely making it

Thoughts and prayers.

Increasing taxes isnt the answer. Companies have been wiggling theirbway out since taxes began. Even Obama couldnt stop it.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would he stop it? He profited from it...

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Increasing taxes on the rich is part of the answer. In fact there have been economist studies saying a 73% tax rate is the ideal sweet spot.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The fatal assumption is that the rich will pay. Do those studies factor tax shelters, loopholes and lobbyist?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I assume minimal loopholes. Whether the rich pay isn't a question of % taxed, it's a question of how much power democracy has, or wealth.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they wiggle regardless what the rate is. companies paid much more when the rate was higher and will if increased

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Companies don't pay taxes, they pass that cost on to the consumer. That why places with high fuel tax have a higher cost of living.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they pass some of the cost on sure, but they are in competition also w international business, so not much. high tax-->high equality

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on what market and what kind of tax. A sales tax on gas affects every consumer and company. A payroll tax favors foreign products

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If I was rich I'd avoid taxes too it's all legal. If people have a problem with it then contact your politicians and do something about it.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 41

I'm lucky to be represented by a senator who IS trying to do something about it. Unfortunately she can only do so much about the other 99.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

And if those 99 have constituents that are concerned about another issue, they're not pushing against tax loopholes that are being paid for.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

HAHAHAHA

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

First of all, it's absolutely not all legal. Panama papers and shit. And also, contact the politicians? They already fucking know about the

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Loopholes and shit, THEY'RE USING THEM! Most of the politicians aren't paying the taxes they should because they're the one writing them.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like anyone is going to close a loophole they are already using. At this point the government is a self centered group of people not looking

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Out for the country and only then self. Anything that looks otherwise is so they can get re-elected

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Which is why the government is the problem not the companies. People need to force them to cooperate with us and fix things

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey this sounds like something the government needs to tighten up rather than something Rockstar did that was illegal or something. I don’t

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 11

I think the best way to tax corporations is go to who is getting the money, tax shares based on where the rich shareholders live.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Tis! Yes! Thank you.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

know anyone who pays taxes they don’t have to pay. If there’s a loophole people will take it, stop giving corporations giant loopholes

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 8

I personally am of the school of thought of: If you knowingly exploit a system involving tax payer money, you're a twat.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Eh. People won’t pay more than they have to and neither will corporations. If you give people a way to not pay any taxes they’ll take it

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But the money they pay will go less far. It's the difference between paying for something cool, or throwing it down a well.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a tax 101 teacher who told us the way Canadian tax law is designed is that its our obligation to know it and apply it to pay the least

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

The prob is most people are too busy working 50 hours a week to learn what to do. Rich people hire lawyers who do nothing but figured out

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Loopholes

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I really hate this argument. Sure, the government should tighten things up. But just because something's legal, doesn't mean it's ethical.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

It's somewhat like saying that we would all be running around raping and murdering if it wasn't for the laws or the Bible or whatever.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Never said it was ethical. But no one (people or company) are going to pay more in taxes than they have to. If you give someone an option to

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not pay any they’re going to take it. Stop giving companies crazy loopholes like this

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, legality and ethics aren't always hand in hand. But no company is going to voluntarily pay more tax than they have to. 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

If the government isn't making them pay it, that's a pretty clear sign they don't really want it. 2/2

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

So if you had a possibility of legally not paying taxes, you would still pay them?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

This is a pretty bad analogy if you are acting in good faith though

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I would. I like having solid infrastructure, public services etc. etc. taxes are cheap as fuck compared to what you get for them!

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

If I had an option to use a loophole to pay less or no taxes, I wouldn't. How do you determine if something is a loophole? Well, (1/3)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

that's just one of those points where ethics and law march separate ways. There's a reason why we make a distinction between the (2/3)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

letter and the spirit of the law. It's a complex topic and you can't just reduce it to a pithy claim to absolve corporations. (3/3)
