#5 I used to work with foreign academics fresh off the boat (or more likely a plane), bright eyed and happy to be working in the ol' US of A. Giddy about the big paycheck they were about to receive. Almost every one of them went through a predictable pattern of disappointment: why is insurance so much? why are there so many bills? my SO needs a job. my SO (and may kids) needs their own car. How do I get out of my contract?
Don't forget on top of all this he started out his term with another class warfare taxcut. They get cash in pocket, we get the bill with compounding interest while Trump destroys the entire system the US uses to finance revolving credit.
#5 There's going to be a ton of people coping that they have no choice but to pay bills that are that much. I personally find that insane, and would have moved years before paying over $1000/mo in rent as an individual.
The only "affordable" places are way out in rural areas, and you are trading a lower rent for a massive spike in commute time, which is often not viable if you work multiple jobs.
Really? Where are you going to move too? Somewhere affordable in the middle of nowhere? Guess what the unemployment rate is 35% and the biggest employers is the cardboard plant paying $14/ hr but they just sold out to a private equity firm who is closing the plant and selling off its assets.
The world you think exists isn't a thing in a lot of places and especially in the US.
I've told people this if I cant own it I want to burn it. I want to LIVE comfortably if I cant and someone is preventing me from my rights to that... they may find there house on fire after I fly a drone into there house.
Car payment - 1000, "health" "insurance" 1000, light bill 300, ...to make it a bit more realistic, and suddenly even earning more than double that $3500 still isn't adequate.
Shiiiit, double that light bill and you're in my state. Last month was 780 (combo gas and electric) and we don't have a shitload of stuff happening at the house. Aircon is barely 6yo, furnace is closer to 20 but it's had parts replaced that put it at about the efficiency level of a 10yo one, one computer, two TVs that only run one at a time, small basic standard fridge, like it's normal shit. LED bulbs, lights off when you leave a room, etc. We're just absolutely assraped by our utility.
Why in the actual fuck is your car payment $1k?! Mine is $370 and that seemed like a lot. Is that really the standard now? I know I was luckily to have saved several grand to put down on the used car, but not even a third of it.
This doesnt take into account the fact that they have lost all their military bases (including the biggest one they have (had) for trillions of dollars) in the entire middle east. Which has taken 70 years to build. All lost in one week. I cant remember any specific numbers, shouldnt be hard to find googling though
#1 Question: is the opportunity cost all of them combined or separate? AKA "It could have bought all of this" or "If this had been converted into row 1- it'd be this many, row 2- this many"
I assume it's any of them, not all at the same time, but I'm just guessing. Guess one could check average student loan debt and see if that corresponds to change in the top cost.
Hm, it doesn't even feel close. I used the 27bil and divided by 29thousand (the amount I got on a quick google) but that gave me over 900,000 loans erased- though it feeeeels close enough based on loan variation that it's by individual catagory.
What dipshit doesn't realize is that I am in a trade. I am the quality tech for a thermoset molding facility, and I own my own art business. Companies don't want to pay what humans need, and no one wants to buy art when the world is on fire. Best not to get into semantics with absolutely dismissive fucktardulated morons.
$93B was not simply for food. There doesn't seem to be any connection between the spending rate and "opportunity cost alternatives". The video assigns non-monthly bills with a monthly wage.
This seems overly pedantic without any real purpose behind it.
You aren’t disputing the numbers, or presenting a counter-argument, you’re upset that the numbers are being used to compare to what could have been done with the money.
We already know allocated military budgets won’t be spent on student debt forgiveness, even under a competent president.

The first is lacking context, the second doesn't seem to have any correlation, and the third is improperly associated. I'm not sure why you are bent out of shape by this.

Never cared about the cost of the war in Ukraine. Why we caring about this?

Americans would be doing a hell of a lot better if we didn't have monopolies and billionaires.

Thanks, Reagen, for killing the anti-monopoly bills that Teddy Roosevelt created!

yeah, but the 214 Billionaires really don't want to pay any taxes...

Yep, and they're the ones out there right now murdering 180 schoolgirls in Iran too. This is a choice they made. They're not honourable

Some of the information is correct but a lot of it is misleading. I support the general point but I cannot support misinformation.

authorcalebchapman
It’s only “misleading” to someone who believes themselves to be a keeper of common knowledge.
What’re you gonna do next, look for a post about Orange Cassidy and explain that it’s misleading because wrestling is fake?
BladeTurMoiL
What exactly is misleading? Seems pretty spot on to me. Though i cant speak for the info on mexico.

The context is how we would compare such a sum to something that isn’t a complete waste of money.
Why do dumb assholes, to a man, always try to do the “durrrrr you’re offended” thing?
