Ah, winter is my favorite season ā¤ļø I love to go down to Lake Michigan and watch the steam rise on a chilly day. And the sound of my hiking boots crunching through the snow is the best!

... I need y'all to understand that, as a Minnesotan, these are frequently very cool until they show the temperature tag.

It was -20 degrees F for quite a while here a month ago.
It was -40 degrees for a few weeks when I was a kid. (fun fact, the scale used is irrelevant)
90% of these give you "dude it was so cold it was like fully -5 degrees C o.o"

It snowed once here, like 20 years ago. Made the news. I, thankfully, was elsewhere at the time.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I live in North Central WA. We haven’t had any significant snowfall at all this winter (so far). It’s weird and I’ve been very bummed about it. This was good post. I miss snow!

Thank you. I miss the winter

As a former Boy Scout, let me just add...do not walk on ice without taking depth readings of the ice. Not worth falling through it.

God i love winter. The cold is so fucking beautiful

Correct; this screenshot in particular is from the (first) X-Files movie.

Rude man. Rude.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm in the desert and it's almost 70°F (20°C) in the middle of the night. I really want to be walking in a snowy forest.

You know what this post is missing? Unnecessarily-added music. /s

2 months ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 0

Oh I'm definitely adding music

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm gonna need some slow piano to really get how cold this is

Here ya go, some peaceful jams that I enjoyed that you can enjoy separately from the winter wonderland imagery:

Winter with added music:

These are some great videos.
I think I'll repost them.

But first, I'll download them all and replace the audio with Nickelback, because clearly the sound of nature have no appreciation for the vocal stylings of chad kroeger.

NOTHING BEATS A JET2 HOLIDAY! AND RIGHT NOW, YOU CAN SAVE FIFTY POUND PER PERSON!

I love ads that say you can save money if you buy something. I always say "I'll save even more when I just don't buy from you ever"

#1 my brain is telling me I need to eat that. The texture looks like it would be so satisfying.

#1 I have lived up here in the frozen wasteland all my life and thought i seen most variants of snow, but that's a new one. Where is it from?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The video has been kicked around the Internet so much it's hard to tell where it's from. I've seen it attributed to Alaska, but it sounds like Nordic skating in the background which is more popular in Northern Europe. The ice formation resembles hoarfrost which occurs when water vapour deposits as ice on a cold surface.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it may very well be Sweden, since we live in the middle and it's kind of a long country with severe cold up in the REAL north. šŸ™‚

The trees weep dark blood; it is time for you to atone for your sins against mother nature.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yeah what was 11?

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Water dribbling under a crust of ice, I think.

2 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

This is correct. Freezing rain plasters tree, sun comes out later and melts higher, water dribbles between bark and ice.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Reminded me of the black goo from X-Files.

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Really nice collection. I had to put on a sweater to watch all of them.

2 months ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I favorited it so I can look at it on a hot day

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

#40 sundogs are also very neat

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Better than updogs?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sundogs and halo I saw here a few years back

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I got married in Alaska and we stayed at an Airbnb near a glacier. We saw it and had no idea what we were looking at. But it’s always going to be in my minds eye.

Talk about a let down.

This post is very pleasant, and also #fuckice

2 months ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I was gonna say something about it. I was so disappointed when they didn’t kick it

2 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Im so mad

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I know, right! But I also know that I would sit and take the ice off of one section, piece by piece first just to satisfy my other urge.

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is #24 as dangerous as it looks?

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had assumed it was AI based on the blur around many of the skaters.

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

That might be the compression I had to apply to get the video to upload. The source video is a few years old. Nordic skating is well known and there are lots of videos of it. The poles and backpacks you see them carrying are part of their safety gear.

2 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It has risks but the people who do it seek out these ice conditions deliberately

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/article/skating-thin-black-ice-creates-sound-nordic-spd

2 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

fascinating, thanks!

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is quite risky when the ice is that thin yes - you need to know what you are doing. The biggest problem is perhaps not the risk of falling in, but that it is extremely difficult to get out if you fall in where the ice is thin.
