Bug identification needed

Caught this thing buzzing around my porch light. Scared the crap out of me as it’s about 1”- 1 1/2” long and super loud. I did some research about bugs in my area, first thought it might be a carpenter bee but it’s not hairy. Now I’m thinking it’s a black horse fly, but I can’t confirm. Sorry for the shitty pictures it’s the best I could do right now. If anyone can give me their best guess I would appreciate it. I live in Southern California if that helps. Thanks!
