There's not much to be said here. I'm just a lazy, fat bum, who is horribly out of shape. On the bright side, I feel great to finally start the journey

Try the app C25k. It works you up to running.
universalcode
Did you think the age old adage "You gotta walk before you can run" was a fucking joke?
BilldeTurlock
!
TwistedHarmony
Do it again.
ILikeNewEnglandBeer
Keep it up, a few months from now you'll be the guy running past everyone else!
vixvox
But you did it!!
CochiseVeneficorum
About your tenth or fifteenth jog, you will be amazed by how much easier it gets. Keep making progress, good start.
HarleyQuiznos
Me too!! I only get to run two days a week but I do two miles of walk/jogging and it suuuucks!
pshadowphazer
Good for you OP get out there and work hard. Make sure to hydrate and work up to a higher intensity and be safe
Rasdwatrium
Only nearly, you weak willed bitch. That means you DID IT. And that you can do it AGAIN. GO FOR IT!
ItMayBeHelpfulToNote
It gets easier really quickly.. you have to do it everyday
Stolf
Just count calories. Keep it to 2100 or so for a month or so to get used to less food, then gradually get down to 1200-1500 a day
krunksplein
I am a stranger on the internet, but I'm proud of you.
DanceFiendStrapS
Keep going! you can do this! Proud of you for starting the process!
itsmejetzt
Bike and swimming
Daemoneyes
Start with walking or even better go swimming/diving because it protects your joints and still lets you burn a ton of calories.
Daemoneyes
Start with 30 min of swimming daily and slowly increase to 1 hour, dont overexercise because then it would just become frustrating.
duffchick
Dont stop. Your muscles are just not used to working, the more you do it, the more your muscles recognize it and adapt. Start slow.
sammygold
From one former fat fuck to another ... Google "couch to 5k". Be gentle with yourself. The journey needn't be painful to work.
sammygold
Also Google "intermittent fasting" - although I'm told this works better for guys than gals. Worked great for me. Down 30+ lbs so far.
pshawn
Yah
Diewithasmile
It get easier dude
LumberCat
But you got to do it everyday and that's the hard part, but it does get easier
TwoTurnipsInHeat
What is this a crossover episode?!
Diewithasmile
Very true
papasmurf1118
A good way of thinking about it (that I recently saw), "It's easier to not eat the cupcake then to work it off later."
AmericanManBobsonDugnutt
If you eat Jaffa cakes while running it helps.
GenerousLizard
Oh shit, thanks for that ? one at a time or the whole packet ? I want to know !
AmericanManBobsonDugnutt
Just one at a time, otherwise you cramp up.
LucasTigy
I would recommend bicycle if you have issues with breathing
FourFiveFire
Agreed, easier on pretty much everything while still getting an aerobic workout.
cousteau
Plus kinda fun to do (unless you live in a city wih lots of cars; then you also train your patience)
LucasTigy
One of the bicycle workout machines can solve that if you could get one
cousteau
Yeah but that blows all of the fun away; you can't pedal uphill and then go "wheee!" downhill.
highstream
1. Let me tell you how I got into running. After high school, I hadn't run in like five years. I wanted to get back into shape, so I started
highstream
2. running again. What I found was that I couldn't even do a half mile before I had to quit. I figured I could do four minutes, so I made
highstream
5. my total time. Ten seconds a day became about a minute a week. That became 4.5 minutes a month, or a mile every two months. After five to
highstream
4. which gave me a total run time of about 4 minutes. The next day I added 5 seconds to the timer, which gave me about 10 seconds added to
highstream
3. that my starting point. I set the timer on my watch for 2 minutes. I ran away from home until the timer went off and then I ran home,
highstream
6. six months I could run 5k, or a little over 3 miles. you can do it.
Lionskull
screw every bit of cardio to hell. Go lift weights, building muscle is the best way to lose fat since muscle burns fat by existing.
nihilistdad
I'm not arguing against lifting, but I went down 15% body fat and 8 kg by running. Now I lift and have gone 9 kg up while maintaining fat %.
Lionskull
yeah but if you go up in weight and maintain body fat % then you are gaining muscle and losing fat. which will make fat loss faster.
nihilistdad
Not losing fat. I've gained about 1.2 kg of fat (15% of 8 kg) in the last year. But I get your point, if I diet I can lose fat faster now.
Lionskull
well, if you maintained fat % but gained weight then you lost fat because muscle weighs more than fat to begin with.
nihilistdad
Are you sure? 80kg body weight @ 15% fat = 12kg fat; 88 kg body weight @ 15% fat = 13.2kg fat. 13.2>12, so I gained fat (as well as muscle).
Stuffyhead
Fixing your diet is going to help lose weight much faster than exercise. Both are ideal but if its that hard to get out and run...
CongratsYouAreHereNow
just out of curiosity, what is your height and weight?
wo1fie
Everyone is different. In high school I was eating 5000 calories in junk and working out every day and losing weight fast. It makes me sick
GenerousLizard
Well I'm not eating much to begin with, I'm just sittting in front of my desk at home or behind the wheel at work
Booblyflow
Water and food, an hour before workout :) i did the same thing and passed out
Lumberjackfirefighter
Its not only about quantity of meals, it's actually just making slowly systematic changes as in: soda drinks>water, avoid white breads/pasta
thoseteeththo
80% is diet, works well in combination with any form of activity u can work ur way up to. Eventually ur activity will need you to eat more!
SolemnTapir
It's not always quantity of food, sometimes it's more about what you're eating
FemaleINTJ
I eat lots of nutrient dense food and large quantities of it, lost 8 pounds with no exercise in 2 weeks. But I only needed to lose that much
GenerousLizard
Yeah you're right, I going to burn down the local McDonald's to symbolize me losing weight
TheNoblePizzaDragonWhoLivesInYourFridge
You and be both, my whole diet is that clown food and pizzas from walmart
MasterPrime
So you need to work out how many calories your body needs to maintain its current structure. Then eat less than that over 5 small meals/day.
MasterPrime
Cut out carbs (breads, pasta, sugars) and go swimming for cardio. It's better than running. When you can swim without getting tired, lift.
UMDhockey17
2/2 your metabolism will grind to a halt, and that doesn't make you thinner.
UMDhockey17
1/2 It doesn't make biochemical sense to cut out carbs. Your body needs them to do glycolysis and other things that make ATP. Without that
MasterPrime
I didn't intend to be ambiguous. Cut down, not cut out. You don't need to suck down 96oz sodas with every fast food cheeseburger or pizza .
valleyofcats
OP please don't cut out carbs, it doesn't help weight loss in the long run! And take caution with swimming if you're in the obese category.
MasterPrime
Carbs break down into glucose. Glucose that isn't used by the body for energy or glycogensis is stored as fat.
valleyofcats
While swimming is a great calorie burner, fat in water floats.. so bigger people can think they're burning more calories when they're (2/3)
APersonWhoUsesImgur
Carbs are still okay, but they should be from fruit, vegetables, legumes, or *whole* grains, and in moderation.

MasterPrime
yeah but 140 characters
MasterPrime
You don't have to lift excessively. Just enough to keep or build lean muscle. Further raise the metabolism and help reduce skin stretching.
MasterPrime
Also cut out processed foods. Learn to cook veggies and meat together.
