just tired

Jul 10, 2021 1:29 AM

I needed to stop lying to myself about these things so here you go. This is my way of admitting to myself that this is real.

I have always struggled with self-harming and self-destructive compulsions. Maybe I should actually try and fix them but I am scared of losing my coping mechanisms.

Any advice, supportive thoughts, or dank memes welcomed.

You deserve food, and you deserve to get help, u can learn better coping mechanisms like I did! Bulimia doesn't want you to win but u can

I say this with love: go to therapy.

Relapses are common. Try again. Don't let failure be the end of your story. All you can do is your best. Don't cave to expectations.

Congrats on proper use of the Confession Bear. I hope you read the comments and find reason to post a Success Kid in the near future.

Coping mechanisms aren't working if you're relapsing. Get help. It'll be hard, but it'll get way better.

psych here: go to therapy. I knew many people with your coping mechanisms and they all turned out fine with some time of learning :)

1 I had a bad addiction for years all I did was slowly replace the harmful habits with healthy ones.

2 It wasn't easy for me but eventually became normal. We all find ways to cope some good some bad. I really hope this helps. Good luck.

They won't judge you, they won't think less of you, they can help. Good luck!

You can do it

Agreed. We all need help sometimes. If you have access to help use it. Then go be the best you possible. I know you can do it.

The deal is, you've proven you can cope with lesser tools. So imagine what you can do with better tools.

@op I've had problems with bulimia myself, and my best advice is to fill your fridge with veggies and eat those when bored, and drink water

Fall down 1000 times get up 1001

This. Persistence is the name of the game. Everyone slides back sometimes. What's important isn't the finish line, it's the next step.

Go to therapy. Watch more veggietales

I so resonate with this. I have struggled with an eating disorder for 10 years. Therapy has helped me a lot. I hope you are able to find som

Change and fear of the unknown are frightening. Please trust this recovering addict...give yourself a chance, you're worth it.

Do therapy, it will help.

Therapy helps you gain more healthy coping mechanisms so that it's easier to leave the bad ones. Then they tackle the root of the problem.

There are people on here who care and willing to talk to you. We can try and walk you through tough times

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

People go to personal trainers for physical health advice, it’s the same for mental advice. I have been doing it and I feel better.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, finding true self worth is worth it. Because you can’t escape yourself. I believe in you. It’s ok to be where you are; it’s not ok to

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s not ok to stay where you are.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Therapy isn't scary. Maybe try an online service. Some offer text or talk so you could start slowly with someone. You deserve to be happy.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've been struggling with bulimia too. If you want to talk, pm me! I'm seeing a psychiatrist soon and I'm not sure if I should tell her..

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's step 1. Good job.

Me. The best person you can go to is a therapist. I understand how fucking terrifying it can be, but there's no shame in needing help

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell.. this post is you asking for help, and there is no shame. But us internet morons are probably not the best resource

Therapist here: it’s okay to talk to the therapist about why you are reluctant to engage in therapy. You may need to talk about some stuff

4 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 1

before you even get to the bulimia stuff. It’s okay. A good therapist won’t risk you before you’re ready. But they could help move you

4 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

closer to being ready.

4 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

That should have been “rush” you not “risk” you.

Finding someone to talk to, w/o letting the whole "welp, this is going to end in 6 mths, so don't bother getting too deep" sabotage it?

Hi. I am also a therapist and doctor of psychology. I field this question a lot. PM me if you'd like to discuss. 140 characters quite short

you will just lose the bad coping mechanisms and learn some good coping mechanisms with some help. YOU CAN DO IT!

4 years ago | Likes 382 Dislikes 2

Exactly this. It's not stealing your crutches, it's giving you better ones which don't hurt you.

4 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I need to look at it this way but it feels the other way

The old options will still be there but you may not want to use them after you learn new options. Good luck!

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

You got comfortable with your coping mechanisms, good and bad. You'll keep some , reenforce others, and drop some. The change is scary ...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and you don't know yet how you'll do, but you've already fallen off, so that's a done deal. This is just reassessing what's good and bad

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sure it does, but you programed yourself to feel this way, with some help you can reprogram yourself again. Please believe in yourself.

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

It is scary, but you've done this much already. It hasn't killed you. mental illness likes to make us believe we will die if we do something

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You've already proven that's not true. It will be uncomfortable yes, but it will also be a relief when it's finally over with.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't have an eating disorder, but i had some really bad anxiety. Please do this for yourself. <3
