As another one wrote above: If she is involved she surely didn't fly to Portugal. I'm sure she'd pay the money that they get the "delivery" brought to her. And I'm also sure they could find enough kids in the US. Just remember the case of Roman Polanski: The mother of 13 year old Samantha Gailey more or less laid the girl in his bed. There are enough parents that will do this for fame. Same with the parents of the kids that slept over at Michael Jackson's villa.

Both are respected doctors on high wages. Both were at a bar, leaving her alone in a hotel room with her little sister because they didn't want to spend money on the hotel babysitter?
Personally, I think her parents slipped her something to make her go to sleep so they could go out. It went wrong, and she died. Both now facing a murder charge and the complete destruction of both their careers, they decide to cover it up.
