Wow that dude doesn't know how stds work does he

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 15

Something everyone ignores: If he could afford a mac, he could afford an antivirus program.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The free stuff avast gives me has always worked great. And its very gamer friendly

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Windows Defender, monthly Malwarebytes scan and common sense works fine for me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THAT'S... a faulty analogy

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Girls have a secret door too though

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't reaaaaally need anything more than the shit PCs come with these days - and then malwarebytes free trial, and to not DL creepy shit

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Interesting article, but the author really needs to de-fluff their writing. You could remove 95% of the words and it would be just as useful

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

althought I wouldn't suggest buying a mac for that, I do think the last guy really made a bad analogy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Damn, if only that was true...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really, not getting viruses is part security and part not being a fucking dumbass.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

why do you have to be out of condoms to fuck dudes?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5pm u

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mom's hubby bought a mac because it's 'unhackable'... still haven't recovered from that facepalm.

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

I have been using the free version of avast for 3 years. No problemo

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I use Avira and Malwarebytes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Saying "buy a mac" is like saying "I want to give Hitler a blowjob because he made great curry"

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 22

What about "I wanna make Hitler curry because he gave me a great blowjob"

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

He was a manly man, only pineapples were good enough to satisfy his sexual desire.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hahaha, nice. PCMR?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Besides the obvious advice of "Don't be a fuckwit online" ESET's Nod32 is pretty damn good.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Buy a 'Media Access Control'? You can't buy those separately, I'm afraid.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

dont believe every persian prince saying you won an iPhone and all exe files are like your exe's only the ones you trust should be ok open.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That used to be a go to when they were power pc but they're all Intel based now.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 18

It has literally nothing to do with that.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

It matters a lot. It's more difficult to write a virus that runs on an entirely different architecture. OSes differ, but not THAT much.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

People that think Macs can't get viruses are the same people that think the .exe that Jared from finance sent you is a funny image.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not that they *can't*, it's that they absolutely don't.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except they can and do. I've come across many Mac users who have viruses.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In a decade of running companies on macs I saw maybe 2 cases, and thousands for my friends on PCs. Statistically insignificant.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sophos free for windows/mac/Linux and android for home use - top shelf product

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Sophos has been a bottom-rank AV since at least the early 00's.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

According to who? not gartner research - serious question, not being smartarse (for once)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

AV Comparatives

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If people actually think you cant get a virus on Mac, they deserve every virus they're inevitably getting.

8 years ago | Likes 215 Dislikes 9

They can't get hacked via eternal blue however. So there's that

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

You can. But it's not as easy to get one.Heck,Sometimes you even have to type your personal password before you can install the virus.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That pinwheel that's been popping up more and more over the years, totally not a virus

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Can't believe that there are people who actually think it CAN'T get viruses.

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

Some people think Elvis is still alive, so, yeah, this doesn't suprise me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AFAIK the only thing immune to viruses is a Chromebook or other chrome computer ternimal

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Not immune at all, just no viruses have been made for it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only thing immune to a virus is a system with no OS.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Well technically any connected device with onboard memory is vulnerable...your God damn twitter fridge can be compromised these days.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Twitter fridge?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Granted most of the shit uses Java which is why, but you get what I'm saying.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

or if you install Google Ultron

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

YOU. CAN. STILL. GET. VIRUSES. ON. MACS.

8 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 2

lol.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And hiv when bare fucking dudes.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Ain't it the truth.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NOT. AS. MANY. AS. WITH. A. PC.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 22

sadly, there are and you are less likely to be running comprehensive web and local security under this pretense.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Technically correct. Mainly because PC makes up vastly more market share. Mac is not anymore secure as a platform, only less popular.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I never said they were more secure, just that they get fewer viruses. But PC fanboys want to downvote the truth apparently

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 11

"Buy a Mac" falls in the same category as "Install Linux". Annoying as hell and a totally useless advice.

8 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 19

Not useless advice just because you don't like it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Macs are for musicians, video editors, and animators typically.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"Guys my boat has a leak." "Next time get a bicycle."

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol n00blet, did you have trouble with the big scary command line?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I grew up with DOS. As long as the Linux version of my Windows-based workflow continues to suck, I won't switch, thus Linux is useless to me

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Learning an entirely new and different workflow is something you need to invest time in. That's not the problem.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If that new workflow is lacking logic, it is time wasted, and I've wasted a little too much time on software that didn't work for me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All I have to say about Linux users is that at least their OS has matured.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's useful for people using older computers whose original OS is no longer company supported and don't have money to drop on a new OS

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 5

How is "buy a mac" cheaper than buying just a new OS?

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

He's talking about installing Linux, because it has lower minimum requirements than all new OS's and is free.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I think they are talking about Linux, and Linux is not just for "older computers " that statement is just wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Linux is not just for old computers, yes, but it seems unlikely to me that people will buy a brand new OS for an older machine.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But it always seems to be a royal pain to get a halfway recent laptop to work under Linux...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, installing an OS that make your computer preform better is totally useless. Such a hassle aswell. Clicking and typing is the worst.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 49

Wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Yeah okay buddy talk my tech-incompetent Uncle how to use Linux and then be his tech support for every linuxy issue that pops up

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

actually new popular linux distros are easier for noobs. i installed mint to my gf:s laptop and hes been very happy. and getting linu to 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 16

Ubuntu f.ex is very similar to Windows and if you're tech incompetent youd hardly do advanced stuff so it would be a better option.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

My elderly mother uses her Linux laptop constantly hassle-free. Browsers

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

My mom has used Fedora Linux for 6 years and she still doesn't know that it's not Windows.. I installed the OS, like I'd have to regardless

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

To her, Firefox is still Firefox, and she couldn't give a shit about Gnome3 not looking like the old Windows XP gui..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

saying "buy a mac" is like saying "I really have no idea how viruses work and I spent $2500 on a Facebook machine because someone gamed me."

8 years ago | Likes 957 Dislikes 31

but to be fair it looks like the one who asked the question has no idea about it either and would probably be better of with a mac

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

buying a mac is like paying for the identical looking/used prostitute that's more expensive and has nicer clothes, but wont do as much.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In either case if you're stupid enough not to wrap it up, you're probably gonna have a bad day.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saying all users need to know how viruses work is like saying all drivers need to know how engines work. Users are there to USE, not fix

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Some IT pros like macs because there's a fully functional BSD Unix behind all that GUI crap.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Really gotta stress "some" there. I'm an IT pro and nobody in my office uses one, or in the last job I had.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm 3rd party IT and a client is having us phase MACs out of their entire environment!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, because they're terrible in a business environment.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

IT pros fucking hate Macs. Im a Developer and Tech, the only people who like them are FEnd, because fixing them when they break is bullshit.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Granted that most IT departments just keep their hands off from anything unix/linux/bsd on anyones desk. But the BSD just fucking works.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeah its a strong feature for the suite excluding everything else. I just wont touch them because apple has 0 morals and hates you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well I download a lot. My mac got old (10 yrs) and for an HP and got antivirus. Downloaded 2 shows and it got sooo many viruses the guy 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

kinda impressive... download everything and anything no matter how sketchy looking the site is... in 2 years i have had 0 problems

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 guy who fixed it said "wow, that's skill, had the comp less than a day and gave it aids"

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like the OS on Mac. Works well with my phone. Using brew in term is great. Big track pad is nice. Only wish the keyboard wasn’t fucked up.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do viruses work?

8 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 5

Just a badie program, if a thing has internet connection theres a virus for it, windows only have more viruses because of more users (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I upvoted you so hard it's almost inhumane.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2/2) Its more worth the hacker´s time.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Tirelessly

8 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just like any other program, just without you wanting it to. XD

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

Some people consider that a feature. Autonomy is great <3

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL Windows Update is a virus

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

If your not able to deactivate Windows Update, you're the perfect target for a virus.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

If you do disable Windows update, you are the perfect Target for a virus

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Quite well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Hint to get rid of it, don't use Office 2003 anymore.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hello to you too, 2001

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm a music engineer. I use both Mac and PC in the studio. Obviously both have their ups and downs, but to be fair, Mac tends to outrank 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 98

jeez whats with the hate? I use a MacBook for Design graphics on the go and a windows PC for gaming (good luck using a mac for this)

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 13

Apparently got the same hate as you did too, I had apple products just because what it is but people can have their own experienced opinion

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, not had but "hate apple products".. fucking auto correct.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

PC in most respects. I do hate how much the price difference but you do get pretty much what you pay for in both.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 91

Did you let your dog dribble on the keyboard?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

*Shocked gasp* You mean that tools work best when used for tasks for which they have been designed? Get out of here!

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 9

I wouldn't say "in most aspects" but when it comes to music making and editing, mac is better.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 5

Once a killer app for Windows lands, it'll be the end. Just as Mac is no longer the go-to for photos and video.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

like ableton?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's only because of a self-sustaining app environment. Musicians use it, so apps are made for it, so musicians use it, etc etc.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

that's not accurate for music production programs.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Isn't this what is happening with Windows and games?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Sorry for the downvotes on you mate, Mac owner right here too. My tools for design and web development run way better on a Mac.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 23

I had to learn macs when I worked for a design Co but after a few years out of the biz I'm back to pc's. I agree with you tho

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Currently using a lot of Illustrator (both win/mac) combined with Sketch (mac, third-party viewer available), version control with [1/7]

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Abstract (web and mac, although still in beta so windows may come). Viewing my requests in Paw (mac only, alternative for windows [2/7]

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Haha Its all good. Let it be known that @jakefromreddit has never deleted a bad comment. I stand by my (apparently shitty) opinions.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

I really don't get the hate, sure buying an apple product is like seeing your soul to the corporate devil but God! Can't people 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Have different preferences that suits their needs!?? Sir I love Building a good cheap PC but damn! Sir, I felt sorry for the hate you're 2/3
