A lot of words for basically saying you don't do anything to actually protect the country.

The US Army is a cult and its charismatic leader is the US Constitution... it is what we swear to, it is what we write a blank check to defend.

This, We'll Defend

Well. It's a nice sentiment, anyway.

The army is a horde, the Marines is a cult.

Do you worry that Trump and Hegseth have fired and replaced most of the military leaders who took that seriously?

They fired 8 or 9 out of 900 General Staff. So no, I'm not worried. They can't fire that many of the highest ranking officers without a full on rebellion.

One can only hope

That spat with the admiral during the COVID cruise proves the lower enlisted won't rebel. That would have to come from the officers in-between leading them. And that... wouldn't be ideal for anyone.
Also, you don't have to get rid of the rest of the general staff if you make an example of the top ones. No Saddam purge necessary.

The lower enlisted have zero power.

Now, there is one group that has the real power in the military... the E4 Mafia... but their goal is to maintain a status quo where they don't have to do anything, they will steal everything that isn't nailed down and will finish any task in record time to ensure they don't have to do anything, after.

If they stopped, stopped making shit happen, the military would grind to a halt.

As I tell people, the military runs on crack deals.

Hegseth had fired an even dozen of generals, admirals, and top military officials by the end of September last year, so that would make it at least fourteen. Since shit rolls downhill, add in an unknown number of officers below them.

Kegsbreath's Dept of War office is decimated to a couple dozen folks, half of which, not including Kegsbreath, are competent.

Dept of war Crimes

Sure? I just saw a Congressman grilling him and he only talked about 9.

So, by September the big firings were: Gen. Brown, Admr. Franchetti, Rear Admr. Sands, Gen. Alvin, Gen. Slife, Admr. Fagan, Gen. Haugh, Vice Admr. Lacore, Lt. Gen. Kruse, Collins and Langan-Riekhof (National Intelligence Council), and Noble (NSA). Add in the latest (Gen. George, Gen. Hodne, Maj. Gen. Green).
