Way back when, before HD and flat screens, cats and dogs seemingly ignored images on CRT television screens. Were they not fooled because of insufficient resolution, or because projected rays behave differently than individual LEDs? Help me make it make sense?

CRTs flicker because the image isn't there all at once, flat panels are steady images. Cats and dogs see fast motion better than us, so a CRT would look quite unnatural to them because they can see the refresh happening more than us.

Good point. I forgot about the scan lines that would appear if you tried to photograph an old TV.
