"Earthquake Lights" over Mexico. (Luminous aerial phenomenon)

A view of this great natural unusual luminous aerial phenomenon that reportedly appears in the sky at or near areas of tectonic stress, seismic activity, or volcanic eruptions. This happened on the night of 8/Sep/17 in Mexico city.

* Sorry for the potato quality video...

I swear every day for the past two weeks has had some apocalypse type shit happen

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those are coming from inside the fissures.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People like to say that we're destroying the earth. We aren't. The earth has survived way worse shit than humans. And it will beat us too

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Those... Those are power flashes though...

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

In this case it's transformers blowing up on the ground which light up the clouds. Don't fall for this pseudo-science bullshit.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Are you sure those aren't just transformers going up? Just a thought.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It just looks like heat lightning to me....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8/Sep/17?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those were coming from the ground

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Low cloud cover reflects the power lines sparking. Not mystical at all.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

How tall are the power lines where you live?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sparks are flying

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's the aliens. They caused the earthquake, too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

transformers popping

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Piezoelectric

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is easily explained. Not be me though, Earthquakes 101 was an 8am class so I dropped it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's the aliens ... shhhhh

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are we -absolutely sure- the earth didn't end in 2012 and were not all facing the apocalypse now and just no one was captured cuz we all suc

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As long as Pains theme or O Fortuna isn't blasting from the sky, I won't accept the apocalypse

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now we know where the Earth benders are.

Considering it is now only noon on September 8 2017 in Mexico City, I'm wondering how you got this footage from the future.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

They used American dates, this is clearly the Septh day of August

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

He should have probably said early morning of the 8th.

Wizard streetfight or Goku fighting a monster. Either option, I'm 100% positive.

What about aliens?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

We all know that we can't see alien activity because the MIB is so secretive.

Goku = alien

Explanation of lights: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquake_light

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

It looks like something electrical blowing up on the ground and reflecting against the clouds above. Transformers probably like others...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

And too much transformers failures, there is no report of that on the electrical company...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

...have mentioned. It explains why some of the small bright flashes are so close to the ground and not emanating from the sky.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Also, I've had a transformer blow near my house at night and it made it look like day time it was so bright.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That sure is a great natural unusual luminous aerial phenomenon

8 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 2

Yeah, that's a gnulap for sure

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Say lightly fried fish filets one more time dad

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Its probably static discharge from the air and ground being moved back and forth so violently

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sentence reads like the description for some cheap knock-off made-in-China drone...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

If you switch natural and unusual, it sounds perfectly fine. Funny how english works sometimes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember seeing videos of strange rainbow like clouds of light over Japan before the earthquake

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Isn't it? I wonder if anyone has an explanation for this natural unusual luminous aerial phenomenon.

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Tectonic stress creates galvanic force

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Probably transformers blowing up around the city.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

No shit. Do these phenomena usually occur during an earthquake while there are clouds kicking about overhead? Amazing how nature does that.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Afaik no one really knows WHY these happens. IIRC someone claims it's to do with magnetic field effects or something, but dunno...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was my first thought. I have no idea if an earthquake would be able to disturb the field that much though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, if tectonic plates move around that is a force like... Well, no other. If anything I guess that would be enough to do something.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The amount of kinetic energy sure is tremendous, but what matters is the amount and speed of ferromagnetic material moving around.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I for one would love to see such a natural unusual luminous aerial phenomenon in person. Minus the earthquake of course.

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Yes I think I once saw a natural unusual luminous aerial phenomenon.

We are all talking about hurricane irma but we don't pay enough attention to magnitude 8.1 earthquake at mexico city.

Or all the conflagrations.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wasn't very near MC. But yes, Mexico had a big earthquake off its southern shore.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I Live in Chiapas, i still feel the aftershocks Here, other thanks that,i survived... And i need a tequila for the nerves.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mexican here: It wasn't really bad at all

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its ok. While there were fatal victims, all in all it wasn't THAT bad. The epicenter was in a lesser populated area of the country.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes the middle of the ocean isn't usually very populated

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They aliens!!!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Could it be because it literally just happened?

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

As long as Pains theme or O Fortuna isn't blasting from the sky the world's not going down

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it was felt at mexico city, but the quake itself was 120km away from pijijiapan (south mexico)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

57 miles from Mapastepec chiapas

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because, while Mexico City was shaken by the earthquake, the epicenter was pretty far from the city.

8 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 2

It's nothing like the 1985 Mexico City earthquake. Both my parents lived there at the time; my dad tells me that there wasn't anyone who

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

didn't know someone who died

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You can't really blame Americans on an American website for only talking about the 4 hurricanes and massive wildfires hitting us.

But they care for us, hurricane Harvey, Mexico was on the phone ready to help. Qatar, though a political donation, contributed $30million

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Hmm an earthquake that literally happened while most of us were asleep, and in the midst of multiple wild fires, and hurricanes.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

How on earth could we have fucking missed this?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Other countries? What is this thing you talk about?

There are others?

It's just the transformers exploding...

8 years ago | Likes 196 Dislikes 13

Yep, Los Angeles '92 '94 etc.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice try with the Wikipedia link. How are there no sat photos of this phenomenon? In a nice spot where no people live?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

What are you talking about?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was about to post "thatsthejoke.jpg" but people actually think the night lights up because the ground is shifting

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Some were. Some of the lights were showing up before the earthquake hit tho. It's a controversial phenomenon that can't really be explained.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Can confirm. Got outside fast enough in the '94 Northridge Quake to see transformers exploding everywhere firsthand.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

94 EARTHQUAKE BUDDY! WOOOOO. What area were you in?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I PMd YOU BACK EARTHQUAKE BUDDY!

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Fuck you and your Wikipedia bullshit. That is the worst possible source you can post to back up a bull shit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I mean I call bullshit. But I wouldn't down vote buddy. Posted a link Atleast. And sounds like it hasn't been confirmed or, opposite of that

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My words aren't coming to me. However that video does look like transformers blowing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Pwned

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Its supposed to be aurora like lights and lighting. There is a hole host of supposed phenom before big quakes. People have put quite alot of

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

effort into studying wild life as a predictor of earthquakes with no results.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In this case very much likely, but there are sightings of weird lights throughout history. Even long before electricity was around...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Weird lights during and after earthquakes I mean...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yes. There are accounts of vile curses spread by witches consorting with the devil, too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't get pissy at me, I'm not saying it's UFO or some shit. I mean scientific phenomenon, ball lightning was long considered fake as well.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't understand why you felt the need to bring that up when there's nothing unknown or unexplained going on in the gif.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because I like weird shit that might or might not exist, but also has a scientific explanation behind it.
