I was in a car accident several years ago and once one of the bystanders saw that I was physically okay but emotionally very shaken, she offered me a hug. That hug was very welcome and definitely helped calm my 22 year old nerves.
How funny. When I was in a car accident around age 20 that happened to me. I was shaking like a leaf, but otherwise okay. An old lady just came up and asked if I needed a hug. I did. She hugged. It made everything much better.
Sounds like a little something I'm planning for my dad's eulogy whenever he does finally die. "He spent his whole life angry that he wasn't a great man, that he never stopped and realized all he ever needed to be was a good man". I got hit a lot, as a child.
The fact Alison Brie came out recently as bisexual adds a certain nuance to this scene, and when she and Gillian did the vintage lingerie pictorial in GQ.
There's a line from the Justice League animated series (Unlimited, I think) when he's fighting Darkseid and says something like "most of the time I have to treat everything like it's made of cardboard, don't think that's the case with you." I think about that a lot.
He finally has a chance to really let loose, without worrying about literally pulverizing the other person. After literally a lifetime of holding back.
From memory... "I feel like I live in a world made out of cardboard. Always taking constant care not to break something. To break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control, even for a moment, or someone could die. But you can take it, can't you big man. What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut loose, and to show you just how powerful I really am."
It was such a heavy scene. It was very anime in all the best ways. And watching him absolutely cave Darkseid’s skull in the way he did and force him into using a sneaky Trump card to win was just amazing
That's in the final episode. Such a boss moment that gets completely undercut by Darkseid pulling a deus ex machina out by way of the Agony Matrix just so Luthor can be the one to save the world. I love me some DCAU but that stands out to me as some ol' bullshit.
I like the whole season, and the villains fighting with the heroes on the principle that if "Darkseid wins we're all hosed". The badguys have to live on earth too.
I dunno, Lex walking up saying "I'm sorry I'm late, I had to get my power suit." Was kinda awesome and it pretty much completed his arc since Brainiac. Was it odd that the final episode was actually the fulfillment of both the primary antagonist arcs and not any of the heroes? Yeah. But I do think it worked. Mostly because Clark and Bruce didn't really have an arc to go through since Cadmus. The last season was really less connected except Luthor's ongoing plot.
I'm just saying, giving Supes this big moment about finally getting to let loose only for Darkseid to literally pull some bullshit out of his pocket to stop it kind of makes Supes look like a mook. Maybe the big speech would have been better served in like S:TAS or something. I haven't watched it in a while so I don't remember if he gets an equivalent speech there.
Until you just said this, I never knew that was meant to be her phone lol. Thought it was a scrap of fabric or something like that. Of course, though, because of the doctor being mentioned. That was her final cry for help. Geez...
...anyways, Supes totally should've caught that phone lol
Have you read "A Superman for All Seasons" by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale? I actually prefer it to "All-Star", though I don't think it's as technically/structurally impressive. But still a very sweet, touching portrayal of Supes
Superman & Lois s4e7 has a scene told entirely in looks as a bullet travels in slow motion and it's honestly the best thing that DC has done with Superman in decades.
Hollywood in recent times has failed to understand what makes a character great. Making them human. There is a reason why Batman the Animated Serious and JLU are considered some of the greatest. The heroes are still 'human', and not flawless.
I trust in Gunn. He was always great at giving humanity to his stories, no matter how outlandish. Also, The Batman was very cool in that regard. The biggest heroic moment in that movie was Bruce learning to not just put fear into criminals, but also give hope to Gotham.
When he dropped what he was doing (trying to track a villain to get some information out of him) to help a crying little girl find her mom, I stood up and cheered, cause THAT is the Superman I signed up for. A man with infinite power who will drop everything to help with even the little things.
This is one of the things I loved about the first few seasons of Supergirl. They really showed her compassion, her kindness. Just because you can punch someone into outer space does not mean that you have to solve every problem like that.
One of the best moments of season 1 was when she'd lost her powers, and she still talked down a robber while standing in front of his gun barrel, knowing full well it could kill her in that moment.
I love that moment. Powerless, broken arm, still suits up and does what she can. And does it without having to throw a single punch. She appeals to their better angels, when she can.

Yeah, I would not be put at ease if Henry Cavill hugged me. I'm pretty sure I would be confused, aroused, and wanting.

Having someone powerful enough to punch a planet around to help you out occasionally is pretty rad though. I'd like one of him around.
