It has ceased to be....

Honestly, I will never be used to seeing and hearing Mr Bean talk.

Is that Mr. Kidd from Diamonds are Forever?

It is not.

I edited this to use as a suggestion for dealing with Transphobes - but its got many applications.

God I love this type of humour, I love Monty Python & all that absurdity. It's just such a damn shame that John Cleese the person, is an absolute cunt. Some of these comedy legends grew into sweeter, older comedy legends who moved with the times. But some of them, Cleese (very much), grew into spoiled, hateful, whiny pieces of shite.

So either you are the outlier or millions and millions of Python fans find it amazing.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t know. Each era has its own ‘brand’ of humour.
Obviously Monty Python was oddball humour, but it fits the time.
The same with Not the Nine O’clock News and Young Ones in the 80s.
Later followed by things like Keeping Up Appearances, Jeeves and Wooster and the Vicar of Dibley.
And I’m leaving out LOADS…

Every decade has its gems. Just not everyone likes the same coloured stones I guess.

ALL comedy is subjective. That said, some is more subjective than others :P

I don't think I've ever seen such a young Rowan Atkinson.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The first series of Black Adder has him looking like he's about 15...

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Seen those. Feel he still looks younger here. At least to me.

The whole sketch is a parody of a debate about "Life of Brian".

1 year ago | Likes 371 Dislikes 0

Cleese mentioned that the priest wouldnt stop fingering the ornamental cross on his chest

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always look on the bright side of life.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think I would like to see that debate

This is fantastic! Michael Palin and John Cleese are men of immeasurable wit.

Mensch, thank you!

To those who haven't seen it, I'll paraphrase.

- The clergymen whine: "Stop making jokes about us!"
- John Cheese responds: "No. Because you're funny."

Blessed are the cheesemakers!

I think John Cleese also said the movie wasn't about Jesus, it was about Brian.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

From what I read, the Pythons set out to riff on Jesus but as they scoured through the source materials they didn't find anything to make fun of, and so they took it in a different direction and made it about an ordinary guy being mistaken for Jesus instead

I think you should have said "...spam spam spam egg and spam; spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam... or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam."

Show is "Not The Nine O'Clock News" from the early 80s. Mel Smith, Rowan Atkinson, Pamela Stephenson and Griff Ryhs Jones (not shown)

1 year ago | Likes 163 Dislikes 0

So Griff Ryhs Jones was in as Sir-Not-Appearing-In-This-Sketch

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And also Chris Langham, in Series 1 at least, who later did some excellent work with People Like Us and The Thick Of It (but regrettably was also later convicted of possessing CSAM).

Pamela Stephenson married (still is) to the big yin Billy Connolly

For those who can't be bothered to look it up, I found the whole thing quite quickly. It's only a few minutes. As a lifelong Monty Python fan, my sides were splitting https://youtu.be/asUyK6JWt9U?si=bnpeonkzxMfpZt-q

It was the first time i saw this sketch, took a while to pick the 1 minute IMGUR allows :)

He's also in the movie Brain Donors, which I just watched last night for the first time in like 30 years.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Rowan Atkinson had a couple of bit parts in other shows, too

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And the voice of Father Christmas!

We had sanctions when I grew up so binged the previous 25 years of British Comedy from 1994. I missed the Young Ones.

1 year ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

South African? I know exactly what you're saying, someone would go to the UK and bring back a videotape of British comedy and everyone would watch it till they could recite every word. I can remember a fair amount of the Roland Rat video someone brought to school way back in 87/88 😅

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes. Trips back from the UK always brought VHS tapes, Maltesers and porno mags. And a Roland Rat plushie for the boy (me).
