look closely you can see the paint on the angled part of the card reader.

A small group of irishmen planted these in an attack ill say in central Usa. tornado alley area.
we found 5 total and police removed 1. these things can happen anywhere and where one is found more will surface.

The thing about skimmers is there needs to be a Skimmer (to read the card) and a camera/keypad to aquire the pin. and almost all work off storage devices or bluetooth, (so the people are still near by watching) if you notice something off about an atm ACT CASUAL. CALL THE POLICE. DO NOT REMOVE.

these are kind of expensive to make and often are not abandoned. if you notice after you use it. Act casual. call police. notify bank when they are open.

closer pic. look in the card reader before using an atm

the skimmer when removed

this was a Pinhole camera behind a false partition of the atm.

close up of the camera

another type. Labeled with letters for counting purposes.

*updated because people wanted more info and showed interest.

I always grab the card reader and wiggle and pull on it before I swipe my card.

So somewhere in Oklahoma

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Irish gangs in Oklahoma?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is cool, but was the race of those involved relevant?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Was a local Irish mob. Just details of the case

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Near moore?

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's definitely an Oklahoma plate.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's definitely an Oklahoma plate.

Or less

I had my card skimmed in Omaha two years ago. The thief bought foot powder and underwear at a Walmart before my bank shut them out.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Before swiping my card in any ATM or gas pump I check for cameras, and any false places using a small pocket knife.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Alternatively, you can pay at the counter and ask for a certain dollar amount at your pump number.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do that anytime im uncomfortable

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No one on here likes my ideas of using cash more. I take 200 bucks out a week to spend. And use card as little as possible. F banks

In Poland we have BLIP service from sometime. It creates temporary onetime PIN on my mobile that I put to ATM. No card is needed. Have fun!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless they're also using a pad overlay, your best defense is to always cover your hand when entering your PIN

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My concern is something looks suspicious and I accidentally damage a perfectly legitimate credit card reader as I poke around.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This is why I use the same pump at the same gas station so I can usually tell if something doesn't look right.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hate to give it away but that's an Oklahoma license plate. Think everyone should know. Merry Christmas from an okie.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hehe merry okie christmas back to you

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"we found 5 total and police removed 1" Soooo, the other 4 are still in place?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@op is there a way to track these back to the owner?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe. By the way they are made and created. Police could track a style to one group of people.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately these are not expensive to make, they aren't easily abandoned because the thieves need to retrieve the data stored on them.

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

Close to $1000 to make the skimmer alone. Then the time it takes to fit it and make it look real is a huge investment.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 15

Electronics Engineer here. It would cost you less then $50 easily. All simple over the counter components. Use Skimmer Scanner, great app

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Searches for common Bluetooth signature is associated with skimmers in the area

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

$1000? Doubt it

I'd be interested to know where you got a $1000 price tag from? As for fitting, some can literally be slotted on and installed in seconds.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I always turn skimming devices I find into the Cops , so maybe they can trace the asshole with the signal

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lucky for me im so poor I don't have money on the debit card. Even more so I usually have -50 cents or so balance at all times.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

How do you keep a balance of -0.50 without your bank charging you $5+/day +interest?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

because I live in romania. It's shit, but not incredibly shit, but still shit as you can see. :D

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To answer your question, I think they charge like 5 $ a year for maintanance purposes or something.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Group of irishmen"? What?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm so confused. This feels very anachronistic to me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Micks are only good for thieving, wife-beating, and overbreeding!"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why do you need to act casual why can’t you just take it out? Would they actually confront you if they were doing something illegal?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It would alert the thieves and they would abandon the site. If police are called then they can stake the area and catch them.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Plus, from what OP said, the suspects belong to a gang working in the area. If the spots secluded enough, they very well may just walk up,

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

jump you and rob you and then run off with the skimmer as well.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Correct

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I prefer using cash anyways

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

How do you get the cash out though?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

From a person?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

From a bank?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Uhh. . I know that license plate bottom. Living in that place can do that. .

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It would be nice if the free police issued tamper proof stickers were mandatory and not just a suggestion.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thanks for showing this. This one I never seen before. The other ones I seen here were ones that cover the whole thing instead of an insert.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are welcome

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what I was thinking. I would have never thought to look for that skinny little inserted thing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this a pretty common thing? If so, were going to need a lot more info.

8 years ago | Likes 136 Dislikes 1

Used to work for a bank, can confirm VERY common all over work and have been around a while

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is, where have you been since the invention of credit cards?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Been common for over 10 years.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Use the app skimmer scanner. It searches common Bluetooth signatures from skimmers. Open source, commissioned by a police department

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

updated for you

8 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

OP delivers! Thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I just got ripped off $220.00 dollars last night while asleep. Maybe from this thing because i used the atm to deposit money earlier.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Atm that have depositors often fault because of condition of the money. A tech like me would go verify and banks would credit you

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I already got it taken care of. It was a PayPal that was made while I was asleep.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure it's common enough. I barely ever used my card, and had it stolen after using an atm at a hotel once. Someone used it for (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2/2) $300 worth of stuff from bed bath and beyond several states away. Always check your bank statements frequently!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it happens. not real often, when it does we find a few.

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Just heard bout one discovered here in central iowa a week ago.....always check the card reader when i get gas now

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

+1 for central Iowa!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Curious. If I see one and remove it, would I get arrested for having it?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Possession. Maybe.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you keep it and get caught yes. Turn it in to the police. But OP was saying they don’t offen go unguarded. Don’t take. Call police.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to work for an armored truck company, this is one of the sneakiest skimmers ive ever seen.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah hard to catch without seeing them everyday

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would have nevet suspected a skimmer that small. We delt with the the more obvious ones, even the best we saw were still larger

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"our" pin pads are encrypted. and the encryption code changes often

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Magnetic strips are not.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you’re from Oklahoma. Very interesting about the perps being Irish. Thanks for the heads up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

local irish mob took the hit. also heyy

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey hey. South OKC/Moore dude here.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Norman ++

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since I'm in the same state as your license plate, any hints as to where they were so I know whether to be worried?

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

There's a logo for first fidelity bank, which is located in and around the OKC area. Someone could probably figure out which credit union.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aye "the state nobody wants please take it I don't want it" state. We're stuck in this together.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

As a European, I'm going to take a wild guess: Texas?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oklahoma. Pretty sure the state is up for bid for $34.5

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So northern Texas. Close enough 乁( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ㄏ

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here. I'd assume it's up north near the city, but there's no telling for sure.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always be worried. Every time I use an ATM, I'm checking to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Just did a quick google search, as I live in OKC.... http://kfor.com/2017/11/30/police-arrest-accused-atm-skimmer-suspects/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These were like 5 months ago. Around okc metro.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same.....noticed the plate too. Wonder what town?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm in norman. These varied from norman to north okc.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ditto.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wonder if it was the guys they chased around Penn Square Mall in OKC a few weeks back.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shit...I live a couple of miles from Penn Square....
