Thank you. So, not a toy, just decorative wood.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE HIS SAFETY SANDALS???

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"Wooden toy"? You wouldn't, would you?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bare feet and loose clothing close to a rapidly spinning object surely won't lead to a horrific injury.

How many fingers has he degloved?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You going to have to explain why you think this is a toy, @op.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is he painting toy missiles?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's either an atomic bomb toy or a

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bowling pins? Fence holders? Dildos? Babushka dolls?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

toy little boys

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What kind of toy? It looks like a vase.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice toys and it’s good that they have a safety base to prevent a trip to the ER

Found the sinner!!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ehhh. The base needs to be wider than the thickest part of the shaft. You're gonna lose that.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There seems to be a hollow part at the bottom so maybe it’s some kind of vac-u-lock system and attached to a harness or a machine?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paige no!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Toy.. bombs? Israel?

Shiiiiid.

Most of the stack are real. A few on top are toys to fool inspectors.

Buttplugs.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anything’s a butt plug if you’re brave enough.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Long, loose garments around lathes are a BIG no no…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a lot of bombs.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What is it tho?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Google “wooden Charpai legs”. It’s furniture leg for a traditional bed/ Charpai

Oh, the post said toy, so I was wondering what kind of toy that was, lol

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Paige, no!

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

But why?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a lot of yellow just to reveal a couple of lines at the end?

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Basecoat. It influences whatever color goes on top. Yellow will give a more intense fire red, white will make it brighter but not so intense, black will give a more saturated look. Other colors can be used as undercoat, but these are most common with red.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

And if you accidentally scrape off the yellow, you get to start over

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I think it's to make the red really bright, it wouldn't look as good without the base coat.

2 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 2

This.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yup. Some painters undercoat yellow with pink for the same reason.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

If this were the case he'd have painted the conical portion yellow too, but he didn't

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wearing loose clothing next to a lathe is just asking for trouble.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

Don't worry he has his safety bare feet on.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So is doing heavy construction in sandals, but here we are. Remember, most of the bitching about OSHA is from employers who don't want to pay for worker safety (or from workers who don't know history).

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

...yeah, I can't get that one video out of my head

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same. Shit's haunted me for years. I don't even need to ask which

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So... a handcrafted object that looks industrial. Isn't it usually the other way around ? But what is that ... wax ?

Wood model of Fat Man

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Despite what others are posting, this is not a "paint stick" or giant crayon, it is called a shellac stick. It is made and used in India primarily. You can find out more from this video, specifically around 13:15 in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMItJDn-9lA

Woodworker here- it’s not paint, it’s shellac! Sorta similar to wax, it’s used on lathes since it melts to a high gloss due to the friction of spinning material. Buff it with a rag for a higher sheen.

Most things made by professional artisans look/looked "industrial", i.e. finished and not sloppy. Most automation is about making things faster, not making it to tighter tolerances or otherwise superior quality than what humans can achieve with simple(ish) tools.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

giant crayons.

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

Don’t show this to the Marines

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So... wax.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wax the matta with you??

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's called a paint stick but it is essentially a big crayon.

2 years ago | Likes 184 Dislikes 0

It's shellac.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Does it contain lead for some vague/trivial reasons?

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

It does not. The people who invented and use the shellac pride themselves on using all natural and safe dyes.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The trivial reason is we aerosolized lead during a few decades so everything is tainted.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

So, wax.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

No, shellac.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Essentially. Also pigments, binders, preservatives for colorfastness, etc. but basically just wax+. When you make pencils with it you call them grease pencils, but they will burn like a candle.
