This is exactly what he's saying. The wording is different but the meaning is absolutely the same. "We may have casualties. That often happens in war." He is perfectly willing to send soldiers, knowing - even expecting - many will die. And he sees nothing wrong with that.
Lord Farquaad was meant to be an over-the-top villain. Intentionally unrealistic. And yet,... here we are. Reality has met that challenge.

That's nice, but syphilis isn't caused by a single bacterium, it's caused by a colony of bacteria, just like every other bacterial disease (I guess a single one could spark it but that would be horrid odds). So the thing to correct would be the sentence structure, not the word itself. If we're gonna be pedantic.

Sadly there is only so few Marines after service that are in a good place to do much, many try and put there lives back together and that usually takes a decade. Not saying that happens to everyone but for many coming home its not easy to adjust to civiy life. Or it was in the early 2000s. I hope that things have gotten better.
