Yesterday evening in the late afternoon, I decided to ride to a park where I wanted to make watercolor painting. I parked my bike at the entrance and sat on a bench, where I began to paint.

The bike was out of sight, but I was confident it was still there because I locked it... I was so wrong ! Once I wanted to go home, my bike was gone.

On the way home I texted my boyfriend about it. He decided to search quickly on a well known resale website. Luckily, the thief was an idiot and published an offer on this site an hour later, with the photos of the bike and his phone number. I immediately recognized my bike because of the rear light which is also a turn signal, and because of the front break defect.

It was late, so we decided to wait this morning to go at the police station and complain with all what we found. They took the complain, made me sign a bunch of paper, but said that there was very few chances to see my bike again...
So my boyfriend decided to call the thief and say that he was interested by the offer. The guy agreed to see him in the afternoon.

We get back to the police station where the agents said they would come with us, but cancelled at the last minute. So SO and I went to the meeting place by ourselves. I hid a little farther away because I was afraid to be recognized.

After a few minutes, the thief arrived and asked to SO if he wanted to try the bike, which he agreed. Once SO was on it, he said "now I can take it back to its owner" , and flew away. I didn't heard what he said, but I could see the scene where I was and it was hilarious. The guy was stunned and didn't even react.

Long story short, I am very lucky and happy to get my bike back and to have a such marvellous boyfriend. I can't thank him enough for that. I really wanted to share this story with you.

Also sorry for my bad English.

Sweet bike riding skills! Lol great to see you got it back without too much trouble... Thought he's gonna punch the thief a bit haha

Bike thieves piss me off, the scum of scum. People out there cycling, getting fit, helping the environment not driving and you steal it

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Good thing you didn't hear 8-bit music. You never would've gotten that bike back.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Engrish not bad.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

maybe it was this guy

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Re acquired

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For those slightly confused as I was about what the SO said, ‘Now I can take the bike back to its owner!’ Other than that good for you @OP!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes ! Thank you !

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Being such a serious topic I am happy on your part that it resolved.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow what a fucking useless police force.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

You spelled the word "typical" wrong.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ride or die chick you got there. She’s a keeper.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He is a keeper. ;)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the cops are the worst in that story

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bike thieves are scum. They take someone's mode of transportation and pawn it for seventy bucks.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cops fucked up... Stop petty crimes will stop more serious crimes from happening if done right. Again, if done right!

6 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 11

Yeah. There is no point in locking people away for the rest of their lifes for petty crimes, but there NEED to be SOME consequences or they>

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

will never stop misbehaving and damaging other people.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Cops are jackasses they do absolutely nothing

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 8

SOME are... you are totally out of line to say that... I would say that there are a lot of wonderful police who do a good job.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't want to live in a place without police.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hope he got... boyfriend compensation for this deed

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AND THEN THEY FUCKED

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a cop, I’m disappointed in those cops. Perfect opportunity to help the community, with all groundwork done for them. That’s lazy policing

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why are the police so actively and aggressively useless? Like this happens all the time. You did alltheir work and they still won't help.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 6

Too many are lazy cowards. Those who aren't are hamstrung by bureaucrats.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think they mostly don't have the means to act like we would like to. Too much administration, not enough money etc

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Oh you sweet summer child. Money/red tape absolutely isn't the problem. The guy that went with "lazy cowards" is right on the nose.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Well I tend to think the problem is more complex than just lazy/coward individuals. Even if there definitely are. The entire system is bad.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The system that hires lazy cowards who will let their real bosses do their illegal shit. You don’t want an actual competent and honest cop.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have an unreasonable amount of hatred for bike thieves. You can never leave a bicycle anywhere because of these pricks.

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I can tell you're french and I have no idea why, is it okay ?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's okay because you're right. Maybe it's because of my username, or the way I conjugate.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So you boyfriend left you standing there with the thief, while he rode your bike away?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. I was a little further away so the thief couldn't see me.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More like a very LeBonCoin-feeling story;)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes !

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, when you submit it to the police it’s a claim. Complain is a verb and complaint is a noun.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Marry him.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This reminded me of the movie The Bicycle Thief except it turned out way better

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Go back to the station. Show them that you got the bike back. Maintain eye contact establish dominance.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Seriously I have to return there to complete my complain and say that I got the bike back.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Knowing cops, they'll find some way to arrest you because you made them look rightfully dumb.Their pea brains get irritated easily.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Well, we will see.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Update us on it. The imgur army will assist you I am sure.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Solid boyfriend move! He might be a keeper ?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Doesn't always work out this well. Friend's bro got jailed for stealing his back. Sometimes retribution is not worth it.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

*Angry pig noises and intense hog squealing*

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I know. We were lucky this time.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Depends on where you are at. Ask your local police. Mine told me if I see it, I can go get it. I just can't break anything.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is a repost and rehash of a similar story. The original story had something else identifiable to the bike, like a sticker.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Well it's not a repost. It really happened to me. I know I'm not the only one who lived this king of things though.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Don't know what post the other guy is talking about but random events are known to happen to multiple, unrelated people!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can believe a story like this happening more than once because a similar story happening to my brother. Involved a car stereo though.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You even did the legwork for the cops and they still refused to lift a finger...

6 years ago | Likes 514 Dislikes 18

Should have offered to do the paperwork for them

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guy stole chainsaws from me.I know who did itSame guy called a freind trying to sell my tools. Friend called me and police. Nothing happened

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don’t ever expect cops to do shit for anyone other than their political handlers

6 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 17

They'll start the paperwork after the shooting stops.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 11

Here they'll try not have paperwork

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Do you actually believe that? Most cops just wanna work their shift and go home. No one's "handling them". Be realistic please.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

There's a reason you've never heard a song called "Fuck The Fire Department"...

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Same story when my phone was stolen. He used my lock screen message to ask for a reward, I found his address, cops are useless.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

So you expect the cops to just spring into action any time someone says "something was stolen from me" and doesn't provide proof?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

They can't just go taking stuff or doing operations without actually knowing who the items belong to and if the report is real.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

It's called an investigation. You file a complaint something was stolen and they check it out. If it turns out that you lied, they have

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

answer for that too. It's called filing a false report. They don't want to look for your $200-300 bike, not a big enough charge.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a friend in college have their mac book stolen they used the find my mac and got it's location down to a 4 person apartment complex

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

And the cops wouldn't do anything. He had to rewrite so many papers and the professors were pissed then since he was late turning work in

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Why didn’t they go get it their selves?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He did knock and ask after they said no but obviously no one just gave it back without cops being involved then they reset it so he couldn't

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Track it anymore and he eventually just had to buy a cheaper replacement

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OP said already they had lost all proof the bike was theirs. Not much police can do without proof it's your property

6 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 6

This is true. Without a serial/Vin number not much can be done. But stealing back what was stolen is not a crime.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

While I agree with the sentiment in reality this is not true. If you get caught, you can be charged. And it could be a legal battle

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Especially if the original thief can provide "proof" that they owned it such as pictures etc, when you cant.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

How to prove a bike is yours? Never thought about that

6 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

I had mine registered and it's the only reason I got it back

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bikes have a serial code too, usually under the frame. Take a picture of it

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Your English is great, your story even better!

6 years ago | Likes 134 Dislikes 15

No, your English wasn't great. I think it's awesome that you speak more than one language but we shouldn't lie to you and tell you its great

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 68

Bunch of people here that have no idea how to take constructive criticism. It's pretty sad and these people are raising their kids the same

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

does things have to be perfect to be great ?

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Bullshit. English is great for a second language. Hell, there's lots who it's their first who can't speak it.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

*are.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

:)

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

The only "mistakes" I saw just looked like easy-to-make typos. @OP , don't listen to this person. Your English is great.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

He didn't say "perfect" or "excellent".. I think "great" suits it.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

I agree, it helps to give feedback about grammar and spelling, people don’t learn if their mistakes aren’t corrected

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Perfectly understandable but there were a few mistakes. I'm glad OP is ESL and not dumb.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

I think it was good. Possibly some minor mistakes but not more than many natives. Also: it's*

6 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

Dr robinerd report to the burn unit! Cuz that Boi got BURRNTDD

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Hahahaha haha

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also limited number of characters*

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I was going to point out the *it’s! Haha. Nothing better than putting someone who is out of line back in their place! Nice one :)

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Had to cut out a charcter somewhere to make it fit in one comment. Then again, didn't claim my English is great either.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as we are all moving forward and not being mean about it...helping with the language is a nice gesture as long as no one is rude..

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck off?

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Mate, some people who speak English as a first language don't speak it as well as OP. Don't be an ass.

6 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 7

Constructive criticism, not hate

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

Internet forums don't understand what that means

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to give you lots of upvotes to compensate the negative ones. Giving feedback about grammar and spelling helps, that’s important.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Glad you got it back, but it sucks that the police didn't make sure he was caught.

6 years ago | Likes 1321 Dislikes 10

Fuck does she tell your mommy that you never went to work too

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

And next up for “random shit that doesn’t make any sense”...

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yeah, UK here, the police are just as lazy too unless of course you insult Islam on social media, then they'll kick your doors in!

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Due to cuts in the police forces in England thefts are considered low priority as major crime always takes president, including motorbikes ?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Police rarely help

6 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 24

It's unfortunate that you've had that experience, and I hope it improves for you.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea it sucks that im having such negative feelings tpward police. Hopefully it changes for me too

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One thing I find helps? Just remember that half of all police are below average at the job. ;) Same as every other job.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More like, without proof that OP had actually owned the bike, the police don't want to take the risk of becoming accessory to theft.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Unless you can provide factual proof that bike was yours, they can't do shit, of course.

6 years ago | Likes 199 Dislikes 8

As a wee lad, my grandpa would etch our names and addresses on there.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Police generally are useless. Stolen bike is too much effort for too small a crime.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't bikes usually have serial numbers? They do where I live, specifically so you can prove ownership.

6 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 4

How are you going to prove it belongs to you just because it has a serial number?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

the number is on the receipt as well.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I very much doubt that. That may be a rare instance where one store went out of their way to do this if you saw that.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I registered my bike with police actually. Helps in these sorts of situations.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

A lot of items have serial numbers but most people either don't know or don't keep track of them.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Watches, almost ANY electronics, and like you said, yes, a lot of things.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apparently they do. Just looked it up. Somehow, I managed to be unaware of that

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

No worries, we can't all know everything :-D

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Damn. What a civilized reply. +1

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But we can die trying!

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We have a registration scheme, when you buy one you can choose to have it put on a national database it's yours.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bikes have indeed serial number. I didn't know mine because I'm oblivious and lost de bill. :(

6 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 1

You should be able to register it online with a photo, now that you've got it back!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh damn, that sucks :-/

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least your SO found de wae to get ur bike back

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Sorry, i just had to. But i really am glad for you!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can usually find it in the frame, usually under the bottom bracket. If not there, look on the underside

6 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

Police have registration cards. You register your bike in case it is lost / stolen

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That doesn't help if they don't have a proof of sale with the serial number though

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0
