The president has to find a way around our governor in order to pay educators who protect our children. WTF?!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/biden-desantis-schools-masks/2021/08/10/371d4308-fa0a-11eb-9c0e-97e29906a970_story.html

At first glance I thought the kids were being led by Ronald McDonald.

This is one bill I'm happy to pay. Don't lose sight of what's most important, children's lives are at stake.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How about, I don't know? Removing the murderous POS' pushing this shit?

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Also means republicans can use this in 2024 as evidence of federal govt overreach.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It'll be a lawsuit which the schools will win. California already proved you can pick and choose which laws to enforce when about safety.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

From Biden? Yes that's exactly what leadership looks like. From DeSantis? No that would be treason

Hit him with a friggin Bullet .Everybody wins

How can salaries be withheld?!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Children’s blood will be on his hands for this.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The cost of one missile will probably cover their salaries for the year. Just sayin...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That is leadership in the face of a failure of leadership. You can't wait for DeathSantis to come around to a solution.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That’s the fucking plan. Teachers get paid. Sensible people applaud Biden. Whackos say he’s weak. DeathSanta clings to his hill to die on.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

President is doing this because of the 10th amendment. It’s fucked the state chose this route to hurt teacher who just want to be safe too.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Withhold the governors pay. Charge him high taxes and higher hospital bills when he catches the rona. Then when he passes from it dump him.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Teachers in Florida aren't paid by the State, they're paid by the county. The money comes from property tax.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I honestly have a bad feeling that the next election will go to desantis

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

i have an idea. arrest the governor, since, you know, it's not actually legal for a guv to kill his residents?

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

"Sorry your boss is insane" payments

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

that’s FLucked up mate.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Anyone seen Escape From LA/New York? Can we just do that to Florida? Leave DeSatan and everyone who votes for him behind...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Honestly someone who is a republican explain why you support him?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I am so so sooooo very glad he is our President

Ooo, a non-sequitur whataboutism. You must be proud of yourself.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Never noticed the little celebration at the end.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where is the teacher's union or solidarity strikes and why are they not forcing DeSantis out of office?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

How is withholding paychecks even legal?

4 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 5

It's not legal.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Desantis controls school funding in Florida which also means he possibly has the power to revoke funding.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

No. Teachers aren't paid by the State, they're paid by the counties.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which can be defunded

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The counties raise money for schools via property taxes. The state has no control.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ugh wapos paywall is annoying as shit

4 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 3

It's bc it's owned by Satan--I mean, Bezos. He's gotta break that Trillion$ threshold somehow, or he won't be able to pay his bills.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Agreed. Usually I can find an alternative....just gave up today...

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well it's owned by Jeff bezos so no real shocker there

if you can, disable javascript for that page. You'll be able to read the article, but other stuff would not render.

Good info! Thank you!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

hey look it worked, thanks!

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I agree, but quality journalism costs money.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

THE RICHEST MAN ON THE PLANET OWNS IT HE COILD FUND IT FOR 500 YEARS AND NOT EVEN NOTICE THE MONEY GONE

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Oh yea? All his shares in the company will plummet because the news no longer makes money. Ergo his wealth also plummets and no more news.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

Yeah that would suck. Too bad he doesn’t have a Biggest Company in the History of the World to subsidize it

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I think the suggestion was that he could be altruistic.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Dude just flew to space in a dildo...

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Oh noes! Satan won't clear a trillion dollars, so he can't pay his bills, while his workers are literally starving under his slave-tactics.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'm sure Desantis is loving it. Gets to withhold pay and funnel it to a friend's pockets. The US Taxpayer gets the bill.

4 years ago | Likes 981 Dislikes 10

The money would come out of the coronavirus relief act funds that the state of Florida was already supposed to get from the fed gov for misc

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Oddly enough, many states have rejected the Medicare expansion despite the federal government footing most of the bill...

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I mean, i was never going to see any tangible returns from my tax dollars anyway.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Goddamnit, you're right

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I will naht pay teachers I will naht... Oh hai hurricane... so FEMA how's your disaster relief

4 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 2

Only problem is now the Republicunts can point to their shitty education and say it was Biden's fault.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

How about biden cuts Texas officials pay by the amount they take from schools?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well it’s Florida, but Texas isn’t doing much better

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Reading to many shitty posts about GoP ?‍♂️. Getting them mixed up now.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, Florida is just Water Texas.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can he actually refuse to pay them? Isn't that some kind of breach of contract?

4 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

After a long drawn out court battle, probably not.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

It's illegal as hell, and is wage theft. Department of Labor should shut him down.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, long game. Defund public schools. In 2 years, people will be saying, "Oh my! Why did enrollment drop? OuR pUbLiX sXoOlS are terrible!"

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

If the federal government ends up paying teachers' salaries, that's one step in the direction of wresting education out of the hands of

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

State governments and making it a federal matter, which most Republicans would not be happy with.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

They already are terrible though...

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Only because dipshit Republicans are actively trying to destroy them.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The average teacher lasts 5 years before searching for a different career. Working conditions and pay are abysmal

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 100% fine with paying for this. It's what our money should be spent on - helping people that need it. DeSantis is failing Florida

4 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 6

*Failed

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 2

I mean, he doesn't appear to be done yet.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No, failing works. He is still failing them

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Room for way more failure

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're missing the point. Now DeSantis gets to basically embezzle that money legally while more money funnels to Florida to compensate.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Let him embezzle it. Then throw him in jail for the rest of his Natural Life

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, but those teachers need to be paid, regardless of DeSantis being a feckless twat.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Still not the point. I agree with you, by the way, but the solution is not to pay the ransom, its to get rid of the ransomer.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If so… a federalized education system could be a reality. No more obfuscation of slavery, repro health, and maybe add tax/adulting education

4 years ago | Likes 353 Dislikes 4

Yes. It's the Scandinavian way: national curriculum, with books and everything.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

One of the most important things would be to fund schools equally instead of based on city-taxes. This means poor schools actually get money

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Federalized education won’t happen, not with current Supreme Court.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh man, don't get my hopes up. Coming from Texas where they just stripped the whole civil rights movement and MLK out of textbooks.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The irony of trying to whitewash history and suddenly ending up as a new chapter of the atrocities of racism would be poetic justic.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i'd love to see what the federal curriculum would look like after that budget battle

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Ah true, guess we shouldn’t even try. States have it figured out.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Really we need to start with shit like rolling back No Child Left Behind and other ways to threaten schools with even less funding

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The problem here is when we get Trump 2.0 in the Whitehouse they’ll mandate 2+2=5 and some Newspeak language program.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah. Even if they could agree on standards, implementation would be a nightmare.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We already agreed on standards (common core), then fox News happened.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was teaching when it rolled out. There are some legitimate issues with it but, yeah, the Republicans...this is why I'm cynical.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You’re so right, why waste the effort on something that’s hard to do.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Without buy in from all sides? Not difficult - impossible. It'd take a level of bipartisanship & leadershipthat hasn't been seen in decades.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m not confident it would change very much in the positive. If you look up Project Followthrough, we’ve had the most effective (1)

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Instructional methodology pinpointed since 1977, just no one uses it. There’s more money in ineffective education than there is in (2)

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Getting all of our students the education they deserve. Super unfortunate, but public education would need hyper massive reform to (3)

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Generate movement toward anywhere near best practices.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And that’s not a comment on teachers. Teachers are saints who deserve much more than they’re given. It’s the system as a whole.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Until the party swing in the off election year gets the curriculum changed to teach about Jesus and gays going to hell.

4 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 1

We’d need some serious separation of church and state, which oddly enough is already supposed to be the case

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They would teach it as history.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then the pendulum swings back the other way and minority kids are once again told they'll never be good enough to succeed without a 1/

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 92

I'd be interested to see your data on this... How many minority kids feel this way? How many adult POC think they were brainwashed?

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I am not agreeing with him, but i dont think brainwashed people think they are brainwashed

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Not at the time. I'm asking how many adults realized they were as kids.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

White man to help him along or government handouts and that their white friends are secret racists. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 91

Hey brother-patriot, long time no see! Still cuckin’ the libtards, eh? Don’t go changing now, catch you later!

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Man you could have chosen any of a number of valid criticisms and instead you did this

4 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

Critical Race Praxis is what I was referring to and is what my niece was subjected to when she went back to school. Look into it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 27

Out of all valid arguments, you chose the "no u" response. Literally the worst one you could have chosen.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Why would Jesus be going to hell though?

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Actually, Christian theology holds that Jesus descended to Hell after his crucifixion to preach to the dead before resurrecting on Easter.

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

If Christ can't have evil before Him how did He go to Hell? May be relevant. https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2000/february7/31.74.html

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice catch. Another reminder of why the world may not realize it, but good editors are always needed.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Jesus did go to hell so even sans comma it was correct.
