I don't know about this, he could have done it faster of he didn't change his clothes so often.

I had a van I wanted to do this with but never did. I forgot acquire a bunch of money and motivation.
wadatahmydamie
There are thousands of these in Portland, but none of the owners seems to know how a trash bin works.

This is a lot of work just so you can shit in a bucket.

Well if you live in a car then that sounds appropriate.

I thinks this is something everyone should remember when building a camper van. KEEP IT LIGHT. You want to keep it efficient.

Wow that doesnt look woth it. But, man buns will be man buns

Cool. How much?

davebeastly
All the much.
malikcarr
That's what I'd like to know, was totally retrofitting a van actually cheaper than buying an equivalent camper? If so, by how much?
G3ologist
Way More than buying a used class b rv.
yoyo42
For the guy who rented a new flat near us then gutted the kitchen to fit into his van before skipping town (and rent), not so much.
OddlyPacific
Don't pierce or scratch the metal! Make sure there is a good corrosion barrier on everything before covering it with insulation and wood.

You're a little late, he's already done with it.

I like how even successful millennials being unable to afford classic housing has lead to such creativity. Such pretty poverty.
Trielumphant
Lol this is not what poverty looks like. Probably cost 20K.
BeerFueledAdventurer
20K isn't even 2yrs rent in my area

Plus 30k for the van... That looks like a Ram Promaster.

The GIF didn't load beyond the first frame and I was thinking, do you need us to call the police?....
Fellbourne
It's cool and all but at what point do you just go buy a small RV? Can't be much more expensive than this right?
fearandloathinginaz
Shhh let's keep the price of RVs down for the smart people.
Gorlor
Right?! That's what I keep saying! I know some one who bought a tiny house! 70k cdn and couldn't put it anywhere!
TedRux
A lot of cities won't let you park a RV in the city so these vans are like stealth homes. Cops don't drive you off for being "Homeless"
ReLeVaNtUSERNAMESareReLeVaNT
Because #Vanlife is what all the hip trustfund kids are doing these days.
chilllad
RVs are poorly insulated, made with low quality materials, and the roof constantly needs work. You also can't stealth camp in a city w/ RVs.
IjustsaywhatIthink
This is possibly cheaper depending on how you value your labor + the material costs. That being said, vans are considered way more cool now.
NightDany
it is cheaper to do it like this, but most RV's also come with bathrooms right? I'd put down extra for that.
WickedSludge
It's almost always cheaper to do it yourself. If you buy something pre-made, you're paying for materials plus someone else's labor.
Gillonator
Man you're fast
SimplyHench
Spends thousands of dollars making this happen. Spends 80 bucks on the worst mattress ever.. the whole project is useless now.

The Ford Transit High Roof is around 6'8" tall inside.
You probably could in a Mercedes Sprinter (which that appears to be). They are 6'3" tall inside.
Psyko13k
Not all of them though. They do have a short roof
Vergenbuurg
Did Turkeysquares stutter?

I wish more people, esp in the US, would become accustomed to living in smaller homes. The cost of living is just outrageous these days.

I just want to know what kind of van it is. He can stand upright inside! It's either tall or that dude is really short.
cavett
Probabley 3-4 weeks of building after a few months of planning. Cost based in materials and assuming it's the US, $6k - $8k, including labor
ObiWanKenoobie
A lot of the new vans by Mercedes, Freightliner, Dodge, etc. are of this style. If you’re thinking “classic” van you might be disappointed.
The door is roof height so it isn't a high-top. Probably a Sprinter or Nissan NV.
Drumnslack
Sprinters are cheap and common. Pro masters are much roomier and square. This looks like a promaster to me
SteevyT
Also front wheel drive and an absolute bitch to work on the engine. Although, all vans are a pain in the ass in the front end.
Not sure what van that is, but the Ford Transit High Roof has a height of about 6'8". The Promaster and Sprinter are around 6'3".
MrWookloaf
I would guess a Sprinter. But I ciuld be wrong. They're all fairly generic shells now.
Sprinter, Transit, E-series, Savana, Express, Promaster. Take your pick.
It would be cheaper and more practical to buy a used class b. Get way more for your $$. This "van life" crap is just trendy rich kid shit.
ghettoalpaca
eh for the blogs i've read, they usually max out at maybe 20-25k. class Bs are an easy 50k plus

So you're saying that if I have something on the seat and I'm rear ended it won't end up in the floor? Even if it's liquid?
The impact will only cause a force going backwards. Pretty basic physics here....
So you are saying that the items will not fall from the seat to the floor? The items will not bounce around after being rear ended?
So you're saying cars can fly and enter orbit?
