RIP

Feb 16, 2018 9:30 PM

This 15 year old died trying to save his classmates and there is a petition right here https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/allow-cadet-peter-wang-receive-full-honors-military-burial for him to have full military honors at his burial. Just thought I should share this since his actions spoke loudly and clearly. Thank you for reading this and good day

FP Edit: Yes I know this is a late fp edit and I'm happy this reached the front page and spread awareness to the petition. Also I'm glad some people over at Reddit were able to give this kid and the 3 other JROTC students a proper send off. Also I'd like to thank the imgur community and other outlets that found this petition to thank you for finally getting the goal. Also I do not know the family i made this of my own accord to spread awareness towards this petition and thought this kid deserved it since he has done more than more people I have met and know that are currently in the armed forces or was. Last but not least I cannot thank you enough for the support. Anyways again thank you all and I hope you have a great rest of your day.

Signed! Over 600 signatures so far but we need 100k.

I don't see the harm in it, let him be buried in the same way he passed, as a hero.

He showed all the qualities of a soldier and then some more. He deserves to be honoured in absence.

Former Army, this kid did more than I ever did while I was in. Signed.

I shared this with a couple of military and vet groups. Hopefully we can get this done.

Military, so signing. He had the courage we all aspire to, at 15. Petition signed.

I think the imgur horde murdered their servers

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Question: do I have to be in the us or a us citizen to sign thus, are there any requirements?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yea, unfortunately if too many non US citizens sign they usually dismiss it.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Then I'll leave it to you guys

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No he went above his duty. His job was to get home safe that day, he made sure others could do that instead.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You're right. NEVER FORGET

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a parent and a prior service member(marine) this is the sacrifice we expect when we say we fight enemies both foreign and domestic. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And to give your sacrifice to defend this great nation against assholes is a honor no one could can fathom Valhalla little man taken to soon

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The definition of a true selfless hero

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

As awful as it is, it’s times like these that remind me that there’s good in the world. This hero acted in pure, unadulterated selflessness.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I signed as well. The heros that come from these tragedies deserve to be honored for the heroes they are

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

They are the ones the news should talk about about rather then the shooter. It would give more people the idea that is they want attention1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Do the right thing instead of wanna be in the news? Go shoot up a place and you will be all over the news 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

No I mean real recognition. Like a wall with their names or something. I'd like to visit said wall and place flowers or something.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have tried to sign, keeps saying signature failed. I will try again tomorrow.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

867 signatures when I last checked.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Still have a way to go. It won't make a difference to Peter, but it will help his family with the grief.

8 years ago | Likes 318 Dislikes 6

Maybe? I can see how they might have a time of bitterness/sadness over that he died due his actions, and if so? It is their right.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I believe it would be more pride. We always try to raise our children to do the right thing. Bitterness would be towards Cruz.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, hopefully. I am not sure how I'd react if someone I cared deeply about died in a manner like this though. Grief is a strange beast.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Holy shit...icant eve imagine the pain

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I've shared it on Facebook, but there still less that 500 signatures. Hope the post makes it to Front Page with a larger audience.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

signed, my brothers recieved honors for doing the same actions, no reason why this hero should not. wether it was here,

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Add Likes and Prayers!!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there a way to find out if it gets passed? I signed the petition, but opted for the website to not contact me

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The Trump Administration hasn't recognized or even replied to any White House petitions. If it happens it won't be through there, sadly.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whilst I know this doesn't account for all, some - like me - don't live in the USA, so can't sign. Upvoting so others have the chance.

8 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the dose of humanity. I hope that you have a great day or night wherever you are.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yup, I didn't think about that. Mind blown. This is one of few ways that upvotes can can actually make a difference.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Keeps returning an error whenever I try to sign it... so the upvote is all I've got...

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I kept getting an error until I opened it in browser instead of in the Imgur app.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I hope you left out the "for now"

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I will sign tomorrow if it doesn't have issues - but if it does, then I'd likely forget... I know myself.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It took me 20mins to get through, but i eventually did

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Read that his parents didn't speak English well so it was harder for them to understand. Shits so sad dude

8 years ago | Likes 1792 Dislikes 10

No parents should bury their kids. *hug my own kids*

8 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

A lot of us speak perfect English and can't understand this.

8 years ago | Likes 285 Dislikes 12

His family made plans to celebrate today (Chinese New Year) at a restaurant owned by their family...and now that will never happen....

8 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

This really hits home for me.. my family owns a restaurant (27 years counting now) and every year we celebrate there. Man this is so sad..

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

My wife's family does too, this kid reminds me so much of my brother-in-law. Sadface.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(he was ROTC too)

Today is Chinese New Year; traditionally a time to celebrate with your family

My heart might have exploded from sadness for sec

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I honor this boy. I wish we didn’t need so many fucking heroes.

8 years ago | Likes 589 Dislikes 3

A 15-year-old boy should not have to exhibit such bravery - forfeit his LIFE - in order to counteract absolute cowardice in Washington.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sadly, heroes will always be needed.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Just be thankful that God provided them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

No, heroes make themselves. Attributing the condition of the world to a God fundamentally separates one from evidence based reasoning.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Jesus that's heavy. I might steal that line someday.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Maybe if you banned the guns....?

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 15

But what about the sign on the door? Is it bulletproof? We need to protect our schools. There are powerless adults in the buildings, now.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Our ancestors were paranoid about government. The south pushed the bill of rights bc they might want to leave. Guns are part of that persona

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So unfortunately the answer to the gun problem is getting enough people to outvote the faithful uneducated voting base that is gun owners.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yep, it worked perfectly under Obama. No guns after his terms finished.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Britain’s Druid ancestors painted their faces blue & sacrificed virgins on rock slabs, but they managed to grow up & leave that shit behind.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amen

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe if we had competent mental health care, a government that gave a fuck about its people, and media that didn't glorify violence...?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Maybe if the topic went further than bitching about guns like literally every other time something like this happens...?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ok hate me if you will but I don't know if they can "order" a full military honors for a member who has not signed a contract *BUT* 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

It is well within a commanders power to ask for members to volunteer to set up a military funeral following precise military burial standard

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That is what will happen. There is no authority for a military burial of a civilian, but this can be done by a the American Legion as well.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Reached out to the honor guard at homestead. They said they would reach out to the family.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what I would do at least. But again I do not know the regulation dictating burial procedures. I am technically stationed in macdill

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But not home for a bit. I'm going to look into it and see what I can find out. Because this petition probably won't get much done...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And they were trying to spin the shooter being in JROTC as something bad...

8 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 18

Tbh a lot of people I know that did jrotc are a lil nutty. Usually the kinds of kids that have no life direction. At least in the nyc area

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Eh true i would say. But then again most military type people are a bit nutty(im a veteran). The key thing here is that they REALIZE they /1

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

need/want discipline in their life. They seek it out, often because they have none at home. Most kids in it are trying to better themselves.

Yet another detail that'll magically get glossed over. Wonder why...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The ties to extremist group(s) can not be confirmed. But that information spread quickly so people already think its fact.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

When MSM say guns and then something else in one sentence they want to make it look bad.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 10

Could you explain what JROTC is please, i'm not sure what it is?

Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps. Its a program designed to "Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens”

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

wow, that's depressingly ironic

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

Troll is troll.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't say it with the intention of trolling, but it seems very obvious that what that program intended backfired horribly
