I run a small business that sells LEGO pieces and sets, sometimes I’ll send free LEGO to less fortunate families. As of yet no one has ever even said thank you. I know it’s silly of me to be hung up on this and I’m never going to stop donating sets to kids who need something to play with. But I don’t even know if some parcels arrived or if anything went wrong, everyone so far has gone radio silent.

Front page edit: Seriously thank you to everyone who has thanked me, so this is me thanking you for thanking me. I don’t do it for the praise but this is awesome, my store can be found here QuickBuildBricks.com/BrickLink thank you everybody!

I’m an avid lego purchaser and am always looking to support locals businesses. Got a link so I can support you in your beautiful service!?!

Keep being awesome

It’s okay. Getting acknowledged is often more important than the thanks.

I for one appreciate what you're doing. Thank you

@OP I do too. LEGO got me through shit days as a kid. Those kids love you, even if their parents are too shit to thank you for it. Thanks OP

I still play with legos on occasion. Thanks for giving others that gift.

I buy bags of Lego bricks every now and then off eBay. One day I’ll give them to my nieces. I loved Lego as a kid. Hopefully they will too.

People are often embarrassed, not necessarily ungrateful. But thank you!

Keep doing it because it makes you feel good. Try not to do it because you want/need praise or thanks. It’s not always easy.

Devils advocate: receiving "hand outs" feels bad, but they need/want it. Self guilt/shame might have prevented them from acknowledging you

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 3

I think this is true and it’s a compassionate way of looking at this.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That’s fair

Devil's Reject: Maybe they never received the packages? Seized by postal cops? Lost? I've lived in shit places, stolen mail is common.

Bricklink? If so, I’m in the market for pieces.....

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do have a Bricklink store, it’s on my profile. I just don’t want to self promote while admitting I’ve been a dick ?

Never thought to check lol. Thank you!

As a now Lego dad who was a child of a combo of abusive parenting... Thank you. I coped with the few sets I got, some as donation gifts.

I was an underprivileged kid, and I always asked for Legos, thank you! I promise it means the world to those kids.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That’s a great thing you’re doing. +1 for you. Oh, and if you send me a Voltron you’ll get more than a thank you *wink wink*

People suck. But no matter how cool it is to get a video game or bike, Legos while growing up poor make up for SO much. I know. Thank you

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

On behalf of the kids who may not know how to reach you to say it, thank you! Lego are a timeless gift that every kid should get to enjoy.

A lot of less fortunate people are on survival mode

5 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

This is so true

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Exactly. I would just think it made them so happy they forgot to follow up and that would make me happy.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Its probably the parents being unwilling to send a thank you. The kids will always remember but don't have the skills to thank you themself

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Send Betty white some Lego! She turns 99 this year. I think that's the age limit on the box isn't it?

5 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

The rules don't apply to her and the Queen. None of the rules.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Only one rule. Neither may die unless beheaded by the other.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Omg... Yes this would be so perfect

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Nah I get why this would be annoying as hell. "…when you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.”

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I spent over $500 adopting a family this year. Wrapped and everything. I got um, ok thanks when we dropped it off and that was it.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Merci", from Paris, for what you're doing for these kids. Many of these people might be grateful, but somehow too embarrased to express it.

5 years ago | Likes 549 Dislikes 4

Not sure the kids are the ones reaching out.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Saying thanks may feel like an acknowledgement that it was needed, and there is some stigma around being poor.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

*embarrassed - sorry for the mistype.

5 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

It's all good, we got the message no real need to apologise.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Especially since you mentioned you're in a different country and the rest of your English was 100% spot-on.

I got my kids $40 worth if legos. It was 2 small builds for Christmas. We are still playing with them. I give you thanks for all you do.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I have additional questions: How do you know about the families & their situations? Do you put a note in the package & what does it say?

Ah, okay. I was hoping there'd be an easy explanation like "not sure from whom & why"... Well, that sucks then. I'm sorry. I'd say thanks.?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A few off here and a few through some churches. I just do it when stuff comes up.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thanks for being you. My son is finally showing interest in lego and it's very exciting. Can't wait to get some.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I donated to a cause online, quite a big amount, and never got a thank you. The money was sent on paypal so I was worrying it went to the /1

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

wrong account, because I'd seen the recipient thanking other people publicly before. Emailed and she did get it. Like, ok, you're /2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

welcome I guess. And then she msged me a couple weeks later for more money. Kind of soured me on it. Like, I didn't do it *for* the thank /3

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you, but when they thank other people and don't even acknowledge mine and then ask for more? I thought it was rude. /4

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Being an upstanding human is a thankless job. Dont go in thinking you will be praised for what you do, do it because its what you want to.

5 years ago | Likes 438 Dislikes 8

This person gets it

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This right here is why you do the good deeds.

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Whenever I get something free/as a gift, I always send a photo of how me using it/the kids opening it.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I’m sending you a dildo.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree but I also understand @OPs feelings. I don’t think they’re seeking praise, more like want to share in the joy they’re spreading. >>

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 7

Also I don't think it's wrong to expect appreciation. It it's not appreciated why do it?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

< it’s also natural to have a negative reaction when people are rude/inconsiderate. I’m annoyed with those parents and I have no involvement

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

If they can’t afford legos for their kids it’s possible their pride is standing in the way. They couldn’t provide their kids that joy

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Manners cost nothing. Shame is no reason not to thank someone for a thoughtful gift

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sure. It’s not an excuse for how trauma can affect behavior, but a possible explanation.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There’s a reason pride is one of the 7 deadly sins. “Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.”

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean then couldn’t you argue that being upset about not being thanked for actions done under the guise of charity is prideful?
