That little smile. So adorable. I've got baby fever so bad and this only makes it worse

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is actually called the Moro Reflex! We are all born with it and grow out of it around 4 months old.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the original video he opens it up to different music every time and it's 20 times better that way

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We just switched our twins from swaddle to sleep suit and I'm sad I won't get to see the big smiles and stretches once I undo the swaddle!

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I always say.. you're freeeeee!

I always get those + farts. But mother nature is clever and the hormones are working - even the farts are cute AF.

With a username like that, I would have thought you'd think the baby was more cute

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

i should have

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

His arms are actually stuck up like that. The only way to keep them down is by wrapping him up.

9 years ago | Likes 2785 Dislikes 9

I thought he/she was being swaddled.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy shit i thought this was a pretty meh comment. Guess not XD

Babies are so dumb, their reflexes wakes them up at night..swaddle away my good sir

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a spinal reaction called the Moro Reflex....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I cant stop laughing!!! :-D +1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who has had to swaddle a baby many times - yes... this is *exactly* how it works.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

RALPHYYYY I CAN'T PUT MY ARMS DOWNNNNN

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not that they're stuck, it's just that she's very passionate about PRAISING THE SUN! Should be unkindled suprise amirite?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm tired and want to know, does this really happen. I want some series sauce and documentation oozing with scientifical wurds

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My daughter had her legs up by her ears in utero-had to similarly wrap her in a blanket to retrain her to keep them down. (1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 302 Dislikes 2

I was the same way! When you pushed my legs down and let go they would kick me in the face.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel like as a parent i would just continually do that all day

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My dad spent like 16 hours in the hospital just holding my legs down until they relaxed and stayed where they were supposed to

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mine too! She was like a little upside-down tripod in utero! Caesarian required.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Disheartening for a father. Lol. On a side note. She's 17 now & not pregnant. So training has worked!!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 444 Dislikes 5

Yes! This. So much...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't know why I just imagined you still wrapping your kid up til now lol... (is that how you prevented it?)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Haaaaahahah!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm about to create a second account to upvote this again. You deserve WAY more credit than is being given.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My daughter did the same thing in utero but hated to be swaddled after she was a week old. Now you have me worried about her future...

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I got a good laugh outta that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's called being vertically integrated. (Props if you get that reference)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My daughter ended up in the womb at a wierd position and her legs were kinda "

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

stuck" in the same position for a few weeks after she was born. That baby looks older though.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How can you tell how old a baby looks? They all look the same!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The smile in particular. Babies don't start smiling like that until around 2-3 months of age.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess it looks more like an average human and less like Winston Churchill.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, it is an extremely serious and life-threatening condition.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I can't tell if you're serious or not.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You may have seen their signature "Raise the Roof" fundraising chant.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Is a swaddle actually good for a baby?

9 years ago | Likes 495 Dislikes 15

Yup only way I could get my kiddo to get any sort of sleep

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is great but we were warned not to restrict the hips, it could cause them to be weak

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

yes but hips and legs should not be swaddled

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes as long as it's done correctly - not too tight around the hips and not after they have begun to roll.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

If done incorrectly can cause joint issues.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

If you want to sleep at night it is

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Supposedly, but I could never do it to my daughter as I always hated to be confined and I could tell she didn't like it either

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, it comforts them. Any new parent should learn the art of the swaddle.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 4

Swaddling saved our lives. Comforts the baby back to sleep so you can sleep.

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

This. It helps the baby by reducing the problems associated with severe sleep deprivation in parents!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It helps colic, so it's good for both baby and parents!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Some say it is some say its not. In sweden they (peditritian) recommended against it when i got my baby.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes but arms should be crossed on their chest. Not on the sides. Something about joint damage

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't swaddle the legs straight though, can lead to developmental hip dysplasia.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I also want to know this...but, a reminder, don't take vital child development tips from Imgur!

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

When the cops and social services show up 'I heard it on Imgur' isn't going to cut a lot of ice.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

It's supposed to feel like they're in the womb, all snug n shit

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Depends on the baby. Mine had hip dysplasia, so we were not allowed to swaddle his legs. Did his arms for a bit to help with Moro reflex

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

My oldest hated being swaddled but my youngest wouldn't sleep without it until he was one

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

My kid wouldn't shut up unless we wrapped her up in her baby burrito.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yep. Though my kid definitely preferred to have his hands free.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

My oldest wouldn't sleep without it. When he outgrew nursery blankets we made our own bigger ones.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Once he outgrew those, he refused to sleep again until he was 4.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's just comforting to some.. my daughter didn't care for it at all

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They say it is but it never worked for my 3 at all, they hated their arms tucked in like that

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Ugh same here. They love the pat and wiggle. Idk what to call it but it was effective.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the bum pat bouncy thing worked like magic on mine, that and laying on my chest skin to skin

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Skin to skin saved my life. Not really but basically.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Daughter hated it. Son loves it. Or did. He's 3 months now and not as fond.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are some that let you swaddle with the arms up. It's magic.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish my 3 could have loved swaddling any way but noooo, had to flap the arms like frikken birds

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's actually best to have their hands free so they can develop their motor skills and feel things!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 14

Durrrr

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why you only swaddle at bedtime when they're not developing their motor skills

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I mean I just replicate the process with my tie downs from my truck

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Some babies love it and feel safe and protected, some feel confined and hate it. It's almost like they're tiny persons with personalities ;)

9 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 7

Can I favorite this? :)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Mine always wriggled her arms free.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is the study people are saying says swad is bad, but peak SIDS is before 6 months and this study says swaddling after 6 months is bad.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Hospital taught us how to swaddle and told is to do it. The paperwork they sent home said it makes babies too sleepy to eat.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

No. It's make them Autistic. Like vaccinations.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

When my brother was a newborn he would scratch at his face, so it was necessary to swaddle him

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Up to a certain point. Great for newborns. I believe you're supposed to stop when they're around 3 months or so as it can affect development

9 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 2

The use of baby boards/the papoose does no long term damage to kids up to 1 y.o.!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You stop when they can roll because it could be dangerous for them to roll onto their stomach & not have hands/feet available

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

After the "swaddle stage", upgrade to sleep sacks (wearable blankets). Safer than using regular blankets in cribs.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

+1 Had mine sleeping in a sleep sack until she was 5 because she would roll on top on her blanket and freeze.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That and they can flip over and more easily suffocate.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well that explains my messed up kids.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stop if they can roll or break out. Roll - dangerous if confined. Break out - creates loose blankets, suffocation hazard. Also concerns *c*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*c* for hip dysplasia with a tight swaddle, /but/ that usually kicks in after the other two concerns and it's more addressable (swaddle *c*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*c* tight/normal on chest and looser on the legs with a dedicated product so that doesn't make the whole thing loose/dangerous).

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Professional and public opinion varies. Correct answer is "maybe?"

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

No.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

My still fresh arrival (he's tech -1 week old, adjusted) likes his hands in his face but won't sleep that way. Burrito mode is calming.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Lotta times we can compromise with a hand poking out, but not loose enough to flail. And if he really wants them out they come out. But *c*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*c* there are clearly times he appreciates the gentle pressure/security of the burrito. Just gotta see what he wants then c:

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congratulations!! <3

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks! c: <3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i actually read recently that swaddling has a possible link to CIDS

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's the C stand for?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting, do you have the source by chance? Sounds like it's worth a read.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's a must for newborns. Many won't sleep without it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't speak on behalf of babies but I love being swaddled.

9 years ago | Likes 161 Dislikes 1

You mean being burritoed

I can't speak on behalf of babies but I love being straddled.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna change my name to kinkmaster3001 because I'm positive I'm more of a kink master than you. I CONTROL THE ARCANE ART OF FETISH

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I can only imagine what a kinkoff battle would be like.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. My first son would've had an anurism without one. He cried so much. Second son not so bad. Just makes him more comfortable.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People all over the world from dozens of different cultures have swaddled their babies since the beginning of time.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Once I rolled up tight in my blankets and swaddled myself... passed out and slept for hours XD. It was the middle of the day too

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes, it basically puts them in a position more similar to inside a womb. Feels more familiar for them and comforts them. Not my kids though

9 years ago | Likes 614 Dislikes 4

Mine either. My son screamed when I would swaddle him. He was also all over the place in the womb, so...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's how my daughter was. She was 4 weeks early so I figure she was tired of feeling cramped. She's a sprawler still. All over the bed

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My daughter loved it and I used to be able to just balance her on my hand like a little wobbly egg. it was wonderful

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My son hates anything that restricts him, including cuddles. He seems very independent. He's only 6 mths but I think he's moving out soon.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Neither of my two liked being swaddled either.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After about 3 weeks mine got pissed so we quit

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Same. My son hated being swaddled

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My daughter hated it but my son loved it as long as I left his arms out

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

With arms out it's not a swaddle

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I meant to say an arm out but I was thinking faster than I was typing. Sorry friend.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My daughter hated it so we quit after the first week =/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They actually remember the womb? That must be so weird.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is the reason babies fall asleep easily while moving too. They've been rocking in womb for 9months.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, they are newborns. They know what feels familiar. Not necessarily "remember", memory isn't really a thing yet.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Didn't work for ours either

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My daughter flipped her shit when we tried swaddling. She prefers the 'crucified on the cross' position for sleeping.

9 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

I preferred the yoga prayer sleeping position according to my parents

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

same as mine, stakes and all

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Robson nets the re-bound!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They always kicked it off. You only fix it so many times before you go FINE LEAVE IT OFF.

9 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 0

Same here

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My twins tolerated it for bout 2 weeks. Then started hulking out of it. I think they liked the extra space.

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Give it a few years. Sometime in grade school you'll find them wrapping themselves up in the sheets like burritos again.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We were still in the hospital when my son made it clear he wasn't having it. He SPRAWLED.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Both mine were OK with it for the first few days, then we're like OH I HAVE LEGS YEEEEAAAHH

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My son liked it, but only for a couple of weeks. Daughter hated it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Both my kids hated it, too. Happier without it and less work for me? Win win!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Velcro swaddle

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My kids were like Houdini with the swaddle.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

From what i'm getting from ze replies isht that ze infant's reaction to svadling could be uhn early shign ov bondage fetishism *puffs cigar*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Swaddling has been done for centuries and it was maybe bot for the same reasons then, but now we know and it is very conforting for babies

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yeppers. It helps in numerous ways, obviously womb comfort being a top priority so they sleep through the night, but it helps 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 3

Yeah, womb comfort is a priority so if you a womb available put them there.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

All aboard!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What did I tell you about "Yeppers", Michael?

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

I told you not to say it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeeeesh.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/ prevent roll overs onto their front, helping prevent suffocation. (Weak core and neck muscles)

9 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 1

Also stops them scratching themselves

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeahm that's a big one. A lot easier than mitts. My son loved taking them off. Lol.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was horrified when my niece was born and I learned that was a thing they could do to themselves haha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also because they really shouldn't sleep with blankets

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I didn't know that!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It also supresses a newborn's Moro reflex, where they startle themselves awake over and over.

9 years ago | Likes 233 Dislikes 1

My kids have a strong moron reflex.

9 years ago | Likes 148 Dislikes 0

This is my sons problem thank heavens for swaddling

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This moreover anything imo

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had no idea this had a name. +1 thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But don't they think that reflex might be helping them avoid SIDS? Like they startle when they don't get enough oxygen or something? The /1

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 3

I work in an ED and recently learned that SIDS is basically the medical term for you fucked up as a parent, almost every case would have 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

Been preventable with safe sleeping like not putting them on their stomachs or letting them sleep in bed. An astounding number if 2/4

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

People let their infants sleep in bed with them and it's insanely dangerous, an infant can suffocate in less than 5 minutes. Our big 6/8

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 7

Good swaddle keeps legs/hips relatively free, and they can (and do) still startle with just the legs. Legs keep them up less since *c*

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*c* they're not flailing about in their faces. It's a balance game. Startling constantly if unwrapped (which is extreme but they do get *c*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*c* on kicks of it) isn't really protective either. They just won't sleep until they're exhausted. Looseish (as others mentioned) is good *c

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always did a loose swaddle with my daughters. Enough yip keep them from startling too much but enough to move. 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Regardless on how some feel, cosleeping was a wonderful tool in so far as make sure everyone was sade and breathing. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You can co-sleep without bedsharing too. Have them beside you in a bassinette. All the benefits, none of the risks.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

research isn't complete I don't think, though. /2

I haven't heard that, but it makes sense to some degree. But my son wouldn't sleep unswaddled. His reflex was more exaggerated and frequent.

Yes it is a risk for SIDS if you keep their arms swaddled at night. Best to swaddle but leave arms free :D
