You know how wonderful salmon can be when you slap it into a screaming hot pan with a some high temperature oil almost at the smoke point?

Salmon ain't steak

The line of burn marks running over my arm and through half my face tell you what happens when you do that with frozen vegetables^^

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer my salmon baked, glazed w honey and pineapple juice, and garnished w pineapple slices, green onion, black pepper and garlic salt

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Use a little flour in the pan, or on the fish (maybe not best). And stop typing with one hand and fry salmon with the other.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That hurts. Lessons learned. E.G. I learned I really should stop frying things without a shirt. I knew before, but I LEARNED after.

Pro tip: hold the pan on a large angle so all the oil runs to one side. Flip towards the higher part of the skillet.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That is the correct way to do a flip.

“Oh no. Salmon Pox!”

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I Have the horrible urge to pop those.. please slap me.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would never, EVER be able to go about my day for weeks without popping those bad boys. Resist the urge, avoid the scars.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You get Leprosy?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hope the salmon was delicious, looks like you fucking earned it! I'm a chef instructor, it sounds like you knew what you're doing with high-

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

heat cooking oils and smoke points, and hot pans for searing, not many of my newbie students are familiar with those terms :) ps: honey can-

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be a good kitchen first aid for burns (& cuts) in a pinch if you don't have a good burn cream on hand! Hope the next fillet is less splashy!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LOL exactly the same thing happened to me the other day. Had those two blisters for a week exactly on the SAME spot hahah

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cooking is dangerous AF. I'll stick with playing with fire.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought you were saying you got blisters from typing with one hand.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So glad I'm not the only one. I was like "man! Typing some fast and hard to get blisters! "

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did that once. The oil burn was excruciating for days.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Put cocoa butter on the blisters and wrap with gauze overnight, can help them reattach, thing I learned from getting blisters in sculpture

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you get hungry bite a blister. They are filled with lemon meringue pie.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Burnt hand and has to go to work. Makes post about cooking safety. But not a warning about American Healthcare and Wages?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or just laybit down away from you.....dont slam dunk it into the pan....

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oven mitts are used to handle hot things. The way to avoid burns with oil is attention

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

then there's silicone mitts, in case attention misses one

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Do it the Steven King method. Wrapped in a paper towel and placed in the microwave

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Preferably in the break room at work.

Pat the salmon dry, tilt the pan up to pool the oil away from you. Place the salmon in the non oiled side of pan dropping away from you.

3 years ago | Likes 166 Dislikes 1

Yup. You’ll even get better browning/crust

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

When you put the pan back to flat, the hot oil will return under the salmon. You can also start with a hot pan, cold oil then food.

3 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

Oui, Chef! As someone who also has kitchen experience, that was well said.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or just put salt in cold pan, salmon skin side down, slowly bring up heat, salmon has enough fat that'll render out (won't stick bc salt)

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Neat, thanks

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why are people even slapping it in there. Tilt pan, gently lay into pan.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Can't here to say this exact thing. I've never slapped my fish into hot oil.. who does that?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sounds like a euphemism.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I usually just wrap my salmon in tin foil and bake it. Doesn’t stop me from bumping the heating element in the oven with my hand though.

3 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

Bumped a heating element 1x, skin just melted off. Nasty.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

dont use it like that , fish is lightly acidic(especialy if you add soy souce or lemmon) and it will eat into metal who you will be eating>

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

baking sheet works much better and its 100% food safe , we bake fish/salomon wraped in baking sheet , you can use clipers to make sure>

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

package is closed or "put plate" ontop of it to press down on it

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wrapping it in foil and baking it is basically just steaming it. I want the mailliard reaction.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Sear and rare center is perfection.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is true. I like the meat *just* cooked, although I do like a nice crust on a fillet sometimes.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but not on your *hand*!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Hell yeah! Can't get that beautiful crispy skin & browned top without it!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Awww, there were just boobs in usersub and I assumed this was related. But nope, RIP your hand... that SUCKS.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

If naked boobs are safe for your work, I want to know where you work.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They are a plastic surgeon

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

They aren't but if it pops up in Usersub Newest, who am I to argue? Seriously... sorry about your hand. Burns hurt like hell for a LONG time

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why haven’t you lanced those puppies

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Right? I can't stop myself when it happens

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Not supposed to lance blisters in most cases.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I had to get my burn checked out and while the nurse cleaned it she broke the blister so she rubbed the blister skin off. I was taken aback.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Agreed, unless it is actively infected, do not lance it or you *will* get it infected.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Lance and get some second skin on those puppies

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They have invented this thing called "soap". You should look into it.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

I hear it's got microchips in it. You know it's true because I heard it from the googles.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The blister is like a scab. It's covering the wound and letting it heal. Getting rid of it causes infecting and scarring. Ask any doctor.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1) soap is not a disinfectant 2) how about after you wash it, dummy? it's an open wound. leave the skin intact.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

IIRC, soap & water are the preferred methods of cleaning a wound, but you are right that it remains an open wound after.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks painful as hell

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

If you want horror, wait until you get this kinda of lovely bumpy on your chest, arms, stomach, & shoulders... bc the sun actively hates you

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Been there done that. Never been so miserable in my life.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wore the only piece of flown linen i had in my closet to work for 2 days after that, bc I didn't want to ruin the rest of my clothes.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

New a guy that happened to. Fell asleep on the beach. We were in the military so they wanted to charge him with destruction of Gov. Property

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wasn't drunk or anything, just exhausted from working a 13hr shift before

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

... they worked him to the state of exhaustion, & also wanted to charge him bc he got a 2nd degree sunburn? How to tell your military is>
