I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation in I think June or July. Life has been a blur since then. I was going to have brain surgery to remove my c2, c2, 2cm of my skull, and have my dira cut open (the sack that goes around the brain and holds spinal fluid) and patched back together but looser but then had to have my gallbladder out in an emergency first. Then I had brain surgery August 5th. Ive made posts before of the science side of it and of my own incision but this is BY FAR the best video I've ever seen to explain the condition!
A lot more people have chiari than realized. It was only discovered in the late 1800s in a cadaver when the bone opening where the spinal cord can go to the brain was too big and the brain was being squished down the spinal column. Symptoms can be a ton of different things but the main one is intense headaches. Mine got so bad that I had to threaten my dr to send me in for an mri or cat scan because he kept telling me I was having stress headaches. Also, trouble swallowing and sometimes numbness in arms and fingers. I have a few other symptoms (there's tons) but those are the main ones.
Im 3 months post op as of today and I 89% feel better. The headaches have stopped, but I still get a pressure when I do anything such as bend over, cough, sneeze, exist in any capacity really lol. I still have issues swallowing. I still have issues with numbness. They had to sever all muscles in the back of my neck to do the surgery and honestly that's what hurts the most still. I just have to stretch my muscles out a bit more to be "normal".

STOP TOUCHING IT!!!
FunkyKick

AgentPothead
I hope you feel 100% better soon.

Medulla Oblongata. What a wonderful phrase.
laughoutloud74
I love super specific science stuff like this. Thank you!
therealzombiejesus
Holy shit thats an actual human head cut in half..
RatToofus
Found my Chiari Malformation after a car wreck, it's minor, started having headaches and asked PCP about it & he laughed at me (=new PCP)
SpikeWolfwood
That's pretty neat.
catsandcoke
Been there fine that. Terrible headache after. Then six months later weird growth in my spine removed.
Mother0fCats
Did they say it was scar tissue related?
Btch128
My daughter's was stage 2. She got a VP shunt at 3 weeks because of the hydrocephalus

If that's your brain, tell them to stop poking it and put it back! ..all jokes aside I hope things go well and a speedy recovery for you OP.
valen00
Hey perhaps this guy practises law (if anybody remembers that joke)
Gopher890
It’s in a jar on my desk

I kept thinking of Sarah Bellum
ehosca
does not look like a typical TikTok video ...
NuggetsForKitty
Tik tok is what you make it. You hide all the dancing videos and then you only get shown this stuff after a while!
shekilledcovid
Did you ever feel pressure behind one of your eyes that would turn into a migraine? I call them eyegrains.
NuggetsForKitty
Lol I did not have that.
shekilledcovid
Ok thanks for putting me at ease. I have chronic pain and migraines and shit but at least my brain is ok? Glad you're ok too.
mymistake4coffins
I feel so lucky to have an ok brain. 0_0
NuggetsForKitty
I thought I had an ok one until I turned 30. Theres always still time to discover a horrible disease.

Very interesting. Morbid, but very interesting. +1

DakianDelomast
I hope the surgery goes well and you recover quickly! Good luck!

I think something's wrong with his medulla oblongata.
IWantToHugEveryCat
Middle part looks like Xenomorph.
NuggetsForKitty
Omg...
banankakan
1/2 Been there done that! Done the two big surgeries were the second one was to get a shunt to regulate the pressure in my neck.
banankakan
2/2 In the end is was https://institutchiaribcn.com/en/ that saved me from all the different daily pains. Hope you feel even better soon.
Jordan7831
Holy shit man. Feel better.
footkickfingerflick
Or woman
Otaku4ever
Chiari Malformation gives you the worst headaches ever in your 20s-30s and meds sedate you to a point you dont enjoy... Surgery helps 1/2
Otaku4ever
which is removing a complete cervical vertebrae and placing a VP shunt (to reduce the intracraneal pressure). But it is SOOO expensive. 2/3
HandoB4Javert
*expensive in countries without universal socailized healthcare.
Otaku4ever
This really sucks... because the 'patient' did nothing wrong to his/her body... but nature can be a bitch...3/3

IMPICKLERICK
Bro, I think your brain isn't supposed to be out in the open like that.
NuggetsForKitty
I should sue
IMPICKLERICK
I would, I mean, I don't think you consented for that guy to fuck with your mendula oblengata, thats what makes alligators angry.
cre8majic
didn't it tickle when he was poking you like that?
NuggetsForKitty
That's what my uncle used to say to me
IMPICKLERICK
Big oof
SpetzySpamMan
Can anyone else smell that gif? Or is it just me? ... Too much time in cadaver lab I guess
DoorbyTheHouseShelf
Don't fuck the cadavers. That is all.
Demmayyy
I was just coming to look for this comment. I can smell the formaldehyde
Mother0fCats
I took zoology. I can smell this
NuggetsForKitty
No but I still have intense nightmares where I wake up screaming because it's almost as if I can feel the cold blade running down my neck
moffit
Or, that's not the blade, it's the spirit of someone that loved you trying to comfort you. Frightening you was never the intention.
Buttholedestroyer69
Reading those symptoms is making me think i need to go see a doctor
NuggetsForKitty
With that being said I'm learning within my community that some doctors think it's a joke still
NuggetsForKitty
You probably should. I knew my headaches were something worse. Doesn't hurt to ask about it
michealangleo
Those symptoms you listed are very relatable. But i genuinely do have a ton of stress in my life, so im not sure
NuggetsForKitty
I do too. That's why I was told it was stress headaches. Stress doesn't cause the pain I was in.
michealangleo
Fair enough. It must have been unbearable
Darkdragon1777
I don't think your brain is supposed bro look like wood. Get well soon??stay strong
Darkdragon1777
I don't think anyone will see this but to autocorrected to "bro"
NuggetsForKitty
I see it bro
Darkdragon1777
Good to know
NuggetsForKitty
Love you bro
4noku
"...he kept telling me I was having stress headaches." Are you a woman, by any chance?
NuggetsForKitty
...yes
Mother0fCats
Wow. This is what I've been dealing with 100%
Mother0fCats
Treating me like I'm crazy, im almost convinced
michealangleo
I laughed so dam hard at this, and then felt sad for humanity cus this happens way toi often
