Existential dread and depression helps with that, too. I lost the COVID-19 and then some over ~Feb-May just by being too sad to shop much.
(Feeling better and exercising/eating enough now, though. And I 100% am healthier for losing that specific ~20 pounds.)
Maybe the upside ist that once people radically change their behaviour for the benefit of their health they wont quite stop.
