Goes to college gets stoned a bunch of times loses 50IQ points

Only true if you ignore everybody who can't or don't want to handle college

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Opposite for me. Had small learning disability, worked my ass off. 4.0 in high school (with some AP classes) and so far a 3.7 in college

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Oh god it hurts.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Second reality slap = graduate school

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

to be honest, even for 'exceptional' people after college, it's difficult to get noticed - a lot of it is luck

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's hurtful that this is true

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, so this is where people who were told they were special their whole lives go to vent?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most school doesn't prepare you for the real world I. So many ways, till life bitch-slaps you back to reality.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've always tested really well and gotten good grades. Test well above average IQ. I have no idea how "average" people survive.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Opposite for me, failed throughout high school, soared like an eagle in college

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I may sound like an asshole but my favorite college professor is the man who called me an asshole for not doing homework but getting high1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Marks on my exams

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to coast by with the highest grades as a kid, then failed a major exam when I was 17 and almost lost my place in dental school 1/

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really hit me hard and I got my act together, worked like crazy for a year but I had to ace 6 exams in two days. Somehow I managed it 2/.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

High school English: A-, English 101: B, English 102: C-. At least I don't have to take any more English.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I've always said making primary & secondary education so easy is doing a real disservice to smarter kids.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 4

First job: second reality smack! Source: me, having to tell a new employee they are not performing well instead of giving them a gold star.

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Are you my boss?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, and get off IMGUR and get back to work!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was glad to be at least average when I went to college. A majority of people in my classes could hardly read aloud.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

post secondary is where you find out that being smart only gets you so far, what you really need is perseverance

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been overworking all year, never assumed I could just get A, still panicking and I haven't even gotten to college

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And getting consistent Bs puts you at an awkward position between smart and average

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to be straight "A"s until I was about 14. Then everything got harder and I didn't get any smarter. Now Im a "C" guy. Average for life

Oh wow that hit home...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same thing happened to me in 8th grade.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been a straight B student as long as I can remember. I once thought that putting effort in would get me an A. I know better now.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

This! No matter what I always end up like 1% off an A. When my blood doner card came through saying I was A + I was stupidly happy.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Even when it comes to blood I'm still a B. It's a B+ though, so that's nice I guess.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't pay for college. I'll be finishing my Ph.D. (in 7 months or so) with pretty substantial savings.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4.0 all High School, 1.8 in college. Too much work, hand injury, and not enough sleep. It's only my first year. Lol. *cries*

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Consider medical leave if you have another injury. Saves some money and keeps your gpa from going to hell.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All my life it was "You're so smart, if you did your work you'd get better grades." Diagnosed with ADHD at 22, now I have a 4.0.

10 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 5

I heard the same thing from teachers. Went through one of those six hour ADHD tests when I was 17 and then I somehow made it to college.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Got this a lot as a younger kids because it took me so long to do anything and I would make 'careless' errors. As an adult, dyspraxic.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Constantly had teachers saying I wasn't “living up to my potential” so frustrating b/c I was trying. Diagnosed with ADHD in 9th grade.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me too!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're making me wonder if I should talk to a psych or something. What was your process?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everything the article talked about was the struggles I experienced my whole life. Brought the article to a counselor at college and 2/?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Found an article about how ADHD manifests much differently in girls than in boys.. By the end of the article I was crying because 1/2

She helped set me up with the school psychiatrist as well as helped with non-medication coping methods.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What kind of coping methods? If you don't mind me asking.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

While I'm putting something off, thinking&saying to myself, "No, it's time to do this, the rest of the day will be better once I do this."

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you taking adderall or anything? I've been trying to manage adhd without anything but I'm considering trying medicine now.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Medication can make a big difference, and it's not just stimulants, which is good because even strattera kept me from sleeping enough.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try Vyvanse, newer generation of meds, much less ON off than adderall.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was originally on fasting acting Ritalin but I'm on time-released Adderall now. It made a huge difference for me, but it's not for everyone.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

The ritalin doesn't do a hell of a lot for me. It does help though. Never had Adderall.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Vyvanse is a thing too.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I used to do extended release 10 mg adderall, but I didn't like the idea of taking it even though it helped. I'm fine with it now so I might

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It might help, but it really depends on the person. It sounds silly, but for me it makes me feel like the person I was supposed to be.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Adderall will help but be very careful with it. I took for most of my life and so I had no idea it was a side effect of the medicine but 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It caused major moodiness and I used to have severe anger issues. Later in life I found out it was the adderall. Doesn't happen to everyone.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mood swings for me when the crash came, glad you found out.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hey, I include myself. The depression blows. But talking down to others is messed up. It's a crappy place to me.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wow. That sounds tough. It must be really hard to be better than everybody else.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Have to ask why two masters without a doctorate? Was the panel mean to you like you are to people a micrometer of intelligence below you?

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Also, a micrometer? Honestly there's a fairly large gap. Professionally I never talk about my Intelligence or my age. Both are taboo. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That said, IQ is a fairly terrible measure, everyone can exhibit some genius, but learning is my particular talent.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

First, please know I would never let this attitude out with out the anonymity of the internet. Only my wife really knows that I hate people.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Both are from the same school. I was getting an MBA and the emphasis left me 12 credits shy of a second Masters. So 1 extra semester.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm 29 and will most likely start on a doctorate in 5-6 years. It's in the 10 year plan, the 5 year plan doesn't include it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly agree with you about the MBA, particularly if I become a PT, it would help to run a practice. The iq thing:

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Explain your systemically anti social and pretentious way of thinking. And double masters in engineering are more common.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

My ecology teacher has his PhD in evolutionary biology and he acts very similarly. Except he received his PhD at 25 and has a right to.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Well, a PhD makes you unemployable and decreases your earning potential unless you teach. So it depends on what you want to do. 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/? I would recommend that nearly any Masters can be complemented by an MBA. it will teach you how to run a business and move up. Msg me.

same, hammered through my GCSEs with practically no effort having only 64% attendance, since then, I've done jackshit with my life.

Had to repeat my first year because of this, learned my lesson

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like this is a much bigger problem than people think. Literally my entire experience in college thus far

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

never had to study in college...don't need to learn now eyyyyyy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Went to highschool in FL so I got straight A's and didn't even have to show up half the time. Went to college in NH and nearly flunked out

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is me right now. It seems I physically cannot study unless I absolutely have to, e.g. There's 2 hours until an exam. Woo!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm extremely nervous for this

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Things I wish someone told me in earlier education.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Challenge yourself. If you aren't getting absolutely perfect scores atm, shoot for that. Try to study even if you don't need to. ->

Near as I can tell, it involves sacrificing cows. Source: Former mediocre college student, current professor.

10 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

Ugh, that's easy to say, back in your days there weren't bat-cows.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair, outstanding grades in college don't guarantee a steep career either.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

High GPA is neither necessary/sufficient in the real world. That's why I never left college. Just hung around till I had to start teaching.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I've never had to study because common sense would carry you just about anywhere you needed to. Then in College I'm forced to take philosphy

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I had philosophy my first semester of college. 8am, M,W,F. By the end of the semester, I was 400 pages behind in the reading. I got an A.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Philosophy is quite literally common sense in fancy verbiage.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Hahahaa. No.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Until you dive into Heidegger.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

philosophy requires mainly reasoning and thinking. Try with anatomy or pharmacology, then we'll talk

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thinking, yes. Reasoning? Hell no. Some parts, sure, but fucking hell man, you know what Idealism Is?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yes and after you understand the reasoning and what those people thought it becomes easier to remember. That can't be said for most things

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What people *thought* matters for jack shit in the current age. It was vague attempts to understand the world and most were insane.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never had to study for my undergrad. Starting grad on the 30th. Really worried I'll need to study and won't be able to...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depending on the field, research based grad programs give fuck all of a shit about courses. So it might not matter.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Made it through undergrad without studying or going to class. Then went to law school...world turned upside down. Good luck.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I started my degree without these warnings, coasted all the way up, year two hit a wall, never recovered

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to learn to sit down and work on some stuff instead of going straight home after lectures. Once I'm home my motivation is gone

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hmmm, only degree program. This could get tricky.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Almost failed out of high school. Good grades and graduate degree in math in college. Pre-college education in the US is not about thinking.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

My story was the same. Almost flunked out of high school, as soon as I got into college it's been straight As.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's true for a lot of public schools, private schools are much better.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I went to a very good private school through 6th grade. The classes were harder, but still not really about thinking. Even a mid-level 1/

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

state college has more serious questioning and qualified teachers than prep schools do. Heck, the junior college I teach at now has 2/
