The execution of fourteen-year-old George Stinney lasted four excruciating minutes.
The first attempt to electrocute the teenager caused the mask to slip off, revealing his wide and teary eyes for all the witnesses in the room to see. It took two more jolts of electricity to execute the innocent young man.

GOD FUCKING DAMN IT
wherethehorriblethingsare
If this happened today MAGA would declare him a terrorist and double the voltage.
itsthevoiceman
They would have done so the moment he was seen as a suspect. Very likely the exact circumstances that lead to his arrest and death.
Isometimestakethingsliterally
If this happened today, he would've been executed by ice long before he made it to trial.

There are parts of this country and our society that are deeply wrong. I used to believe the good outweighed the bad, but lately I wonder if the darker parts were simply hidden, and if our cruelty exceeds our collective good. There are extraordinary people here, full of spirit, kindness, and a desire to live meaningful lives, yet when set against the atrocities committed by our government and institutions in the people’s name, it makes you want to reset and start over.

They weren't hidden very well. It's just that everyone who pointed it out got shouted down or killed by the FBI.

Even the the photos shown are from a production about the story, it's hard for me to view.

I remember the fear I had when my mom promised punishment from her or dad. And that's trivial compared to this boy knowing a painful death was coming. So difficult for me to think about he and his loved ones dealt with.
Real mugshot pic of 14 year George Stinney included..
wejustdontknow
He was so young they had to have him sit on a phone book to reach the electric part.

My error and my apology for thinking the pic was AI. Deleting my comment, my apologies to @op.
BillyBobJimJoeJames
Why ? It's a truth story
lightfoot2
It is, and I know it, but I thought the pics were AI generated. I don't mind the sentiment, but I appreciate tagging stuff.
UnattendedDeviant
The photos are from a play about the story. Not Ai
lightfoot2
Noted, apologized, retracted. Thank you.

Those are stills from a movie scene, you knob. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iL1f-jV32A&list=PLafTXICwzoygiiT1m9nxL0LFdqmEBb5Hq
goodbyeitwasfunwhileitlasted
"knob" has got to be one of my all time favorite insults because it makes me think of a door knob or butter and calling someone either of those is pretty amusing.
lightfoot2
Not a knob, I was ignorant. There is nothing wrong with ignorance until it is pointed out which has been done. Comment deleted, apology left, we get better.
DutchBoeremeisie
I didn't see your original comment, but can deduce it form context. Sorry you were insulted. To be fair, OP has a habit of posting clickbaity posts to advertise their own site, so the detail and info in the posts themselves are kept to a minimum. Half the time I have to look on other sites just what on earth they're talking about. Nowadays I just downvote and move on.
Nengex
The photos are real. They've been around for a while.
lightfoot2
Wait, the pics of the kid in the chair are real? I did not realize they had color in 1944 jails. Whoah.
UnattendedDeviant
The photos are a play produced about the incident.
lightfoot2
*nod* I see that and have been corrected. Deleted original comment, added an apology. That's what we all should do on Imgur. Thank you for the clarification

This is why capital punishment is a problem. Beyond reasonable doubt is insufficient.
Vortexhelios320
There ARE people so dangerous that they can't be allowed to live. But we are fallible and so should do everything in our power to avoid having to execute people. Only when "all" else fails should it even be WHISPERED about.
"Beyond all plausible doubt" is what we should be looking for for such cases.
And "May god have mercy on your soul" I think also applies to the judge.
AntiProtonBoy
Nah
Imalwaysready
Merriam-Webster’s (and others) define plausible as “superficially reasonable,” making the phrase “beyond plausible doubt” simultaneously redundant to, yet also weaker than, “beyond reasonable doubt.”
itsthevoiceman
The government should never have a pass to kill the proletariat. Ever. Akin to comedy, never punch down. So they should be locked away forever.
That said, like comedy, punching up is fine. So the proletariat should have all the ability to execute their government officials as needed.
Vortexhelios320
That's what I meant though, with "we" being the people/proletariat/our peers.
Imalwaysready
Define “peers” because most people deeply misunderstand and misuse that term (esp. in a legal capacity).
Vortexhelios320
Fair point. I would say people of a similar social class (for now, until we get rid of class entirely), perhaps somewhat, but not entirely, weighted by proximity and age. Though, I'm open to refining my criteria, as I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting some that should be included for fairness.
