During demo - that wall was pre-existing but I decided to keep it to separate the spaces
Beam wraps starting - 1x12 pine, distressed with hammer and utility knife
horizontal wrap going up
stair area
staining the faux beams
starting with the v-groove planking
starting to frame the bed nook
bed nook continued. 12" shelf on the inside
blocking & vertical 1x10 shiplap separates the headboard area from others
Quick sketch of desired plans
Framing for fireplace
built in base
fireplace is being tested out, beginning the built ins. the base under the window seat is removable for AC access and switched with a screened base to allow the cooled air to flow
both sides of shelving are up, but not yet trimmed... still trying to figure out how to connect them both sides of the built in
well, after thinking about ways to connect the two sides over the window.. time to learn how to built my first arch
kerfed the back of the 1x12 about 100+ times to so the it will bend with the arch
kerfs
arch is almost done, ready for fitting
arch is up and the face plates are up and trimmed
view from closet
barn doors are built and ready for hardware
these doors slide over one another, matte black steel hardware
the panelling was white washed, knots were covered with 3 coats of shellac and sanded. a 2x10 reclaimed floating mantle was added under the fireplace/space heater
painted and furnished! We went with cheaper fixtures, but were painted so they didn't end up looking tinny
snowy day outside behind the window seat. Home depot 8'x10' faux sheepskin rugs adds to the cozy
I'm an avid wooden boat fan
bed nook with hidden Sony Hue LED light strip ($50, plugs directly into 110a outlet, light color &brightness is changeable via phone app) behind the shelf allows for accent lighting
globe pendant lights ($40 each) were painted matte black, all bulbs used were vintage filament Edison bulbs

10 out of 10, would have a coffee in that window nook in the winter while playing guitar. <3 fuck that's nice. Saved and favorited.
scott911
I know you were a wooden boat fan by the way you bend this plank ;)
MillenialFalcon1993
Everyone knows you need to post an after pic first. Then show how you did it.

I put books under my coffee table because it wobbles without them.
Foreverbanned223
That's some fine craftsmanship. Ron Swanson stamp of approval.
Tallbbwgal
Beautiful, but how the heck do you get in and out of that bed? How do you make it?
rollercroaster
I personally think it would have been more cozy feeling without the white wash, but still looks fantastic!
ScatterJ0Y

I've been a contractor in finishing carpentry for 26 years and I would hire you starting tomorrow. You have skills bud. Very impressive!
DerekFilosi
That feels pretty dang good to hear
Dingleberries93

If you switch the first letter of your names, it would be Ferek Dilosi

Permit? Always post your building permit
DerekFilosi
permit was unnecessary, no modifications structurally, electrical, mechanical, basically everything was "trim" cosmetic.
80percentlegs
You're adding a fair amount of weight to your rafters, no structural calculations were needed?
itsprobablysarcastic
Your photos clearly show electrical modifications and you enclosed a fireplace, effecting venting. Substantial weight added to second story
itsprobablysarcastic
County officials have been notified
DerekFilosi
Fireplace is enclosed with a screen gap on the right side
DerekFilosi
The electrical was existing, no modifications. The light fixtures were changed. The fireplace is electric plugged into a 110a outlet.

As a carpenter for many years, nice fucking work kid. Fuck! Very great vision here.
DerekFilosi
as someone who looks up to guys with more seniority in the trades, this comment gave me the goosebumps
filthyoldmanwhore
10 years to me in the trade and all I have to say; you got talent!
hermionejeangrangerweasley
@OP Besides the seat opening - is there some sort of vent or hatch for the air conditioning? I am wondering about air flow in the summer!?
DerekFilosi
Yes, it's a removable hatch. It will be switched out with a screen hatch in the summer
hermionejeangrangerweasley
Ok! Great idea!
DerekFilosi
hey, thanks bry! I've been doing carpentry for about a year now for a small remodeler (24yo). excited about things to come!
jevans88
You're fuckin 24?! God damnit I am so behind. For real though, nice fucking job!!
bry74
Carpenrty to me is like playing with legos as a kid, but in carpentry we can make our own pieces. I am sure you had a little help...
D0ntSl33p
Random Question: My son loved legos & woodshop. If he were interested in going into carpentry; would you recommend a particular specialty?
bry74
For both of u or how to keep him interested?

This project is not done, winter beat me. But this guy let me design something to hide all the utility boxes and such on his house
bry74
Simple deck project but is coming out really nice. Gotta love cedar.
bry74
Doing all that. That would be my best advice, never be afraid to ask for help or ideas. You have vision, use any help avail to you.
DerekFilosi
that deck looks fantastic. I love the design. Our shop guy was very helpful in talking me through the built in process
