So when i moved into my new apartment, in a new city where I had no friends, no money, and no furniture I needed something to do.

So I decided to make my own furniture. I didn't have much experience, but I had a lot of time.

I decided I needed a table.

Started putting the puzzle together. All of the wood comes from old shutters and doors.

Top is done!

Time for the base.

Putting it together.

One giant threaded rod.

Sanding, sanding, sanding.

Epoxy really brings out the colors!

One size fits all. The palm tree's name is Karl

Finished product.

But then it got addicting.

Plus I needed more furniture.

Top surface and a typical shelf.

This is supposed to be my bedroom. Look how big Karl has gotten!

Reading this took you all of 5 minutes. This shelf took me nearly 5 months.

This time I used shellac. I really like how it brings out the colors of the wood grain.

Finished bookshelf.

Projects really do get addicting.

So I bought this 1971 F-250. I needed something to haul my lumber around with.

But the truck itself is a project. Look at that mess.

The engine is actually in pretty good shape. The first thing I did is change the oil.

I still need a name for it.

After I re-wired the entire interior. My 8-track player is still not working for some reason. Luckily the radio works!

If you move someplace new and don't know anybody, try doing something new! You might end up with some new furniture, or even a new truck (new to me) that is a blast to work on and even more of a blast to drive!

Hi Karl!

How about Bill? That was the name of my dad's old pickup. Seems right for an old beat up truck. Bill or Bob or Billy Bob.

If Palm Karl gets a name, ya gotta name the truck...

My 1960 F100 was named Millie, short for Millennium Falcon.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Names have to just happen with vehicles. They just come to you. This truck looks like a Hugo to me.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Handsome handy motherfucker

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did you have any previous exp. for the truck I want to get one to restore but I've never even touched an engine, could it be self taught?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look thru Hemmings Motor News for a manual and buy it. I did bought one for a 1964 Falcon, then did all the mechanical work on it for 1/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice, thanks

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Years. Same for a 66 Tbird and a 60 F100. Cars were fairly simple then, not hard to learn at all. I had no previous experience.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Little experience. I will say it is a lot of work. Plenty of helpful forums online. Well worth it when you are driving it around!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good to know, and if you don't mind me asking, approximately how much would it cost from start to finish?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hahaha. That is the question. Can easily spend thousands. DIY is the most rewarding and best way to save money!
