Finished picture first. In our old place, I had painted a single wall with the spires of Oxford in a similar style and I was dying to do something else for her when we moved. Total work time approx 30 hours, just me and a bottle of whiskey. And a very patient wife.

I started with two pots of paint, one silk white and one silk ‘emerald green’. I mixed the six shades as I went along. I taped everything with Frog Tape - I totally recommend that stuff. Clean lines and wide enough to catch dumb mistakes like rolling to the ceiling.

Adding mountains. I literally did this as I went along, no guides or lines.

Second set of mountains, getting progressively darker. I forgot to paint around the window with the first set so I had to lift this line of mountains to cover it.

Adding tiny trees. I used the smallest paintbrush I could find and stippled the paint on.

Getting there

I used the previous lot’s paint to create a misty effect by painting a little at the bottom and then blending it up with a dry brush. It looks really effective in places.

More layers with more trees on each.

Adding the largest trees at the bottom. I actually made three shades of paint for these trees to give them more depth.

These were my favourite trees. A single line with a thin brush and then whatever you want stippled with a big brush. These big trees took ten minutes each.

Finished!

You can see the mist higher up.

Shelves up and stuff in. I’m so pleased it turned out exactly as I planned in my head. And she loves it!

Cat tax. This is Minton. He is a good cat.

You and Minton did a fucking fantastic job.

Stunning. Look at those happy little trees. You’ve made Bob Ross proud. You should start a side hustle painting kids’ rooms.

You need a matching Teal carpet, that crappy beige supercord is jarring. Your artwork is lovely!

Wait, there is carpet in that room? I didn't even notice!?!?!

Just change all the colors to orange and yellow and it could be the entire west coast right now.

Can you tell me how much of each color you used? I want to do something similar on 1 wall it idk if I should buy bottles/tubes/quarts

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I bought 2.5 litres of each, and didn’t finish either pot. I was surprised how little I used! For 1 wall you could get away with much less.

The little bookshelves by the door are cute but you’re forever gonna be knocking the books off carrying arm loads of washing into her room

It makes it look like a dentist office.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

True, though there’s loads of space walking in the door. We wanted somewhere she could reach the books and that seemed the best place...

The fact that you even thought to have a bookshelf shows that you’re a good parent. Well done @OP, read to her every day.

Everyday she will look and eventually she will find her favorite tree and it will be in her head forever. Well done!

This is absolutely adorable, but my youngest is now 3 and all I can think of is all the scribbling that's going to take place on that beauty

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe cover it in like ten layers of sealant?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, my daughter didn't once color on the wall! Nor did she ever put anything down the toilet. Really i expected these to be much bigger

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Issues! If you keep a close enough watch on your littles, it never becomes a problem.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We've never had the toilet issue, but both my girls have made their masterpieces on my walls.
