Get a GFCI outlet if you need a grounded outlet there.

Based on the diagram, white and red go to white in wall, black to black, green to grounding lug in box. Not sure it will work.

Its a single pole switch you took out, a smart switch wont work

Not gonna work, tried the same thing and wired it a bunch of different ways. You need neutral.
