I bawled my eyes out in my 7th grade reading class over “Where the Red Fern Grows”. I will not read again but I LOVED it.

There's room for one more.

I'd knock out one of those in 3 days, even skip meals to keep reading.

Sideways Stories from Wayside School!!!I forgot all about that book

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Anyone remember The Ear, The Eye and The Arm?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

YES! Did you read any of the Earthsea books?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did not. But my reading level is still right around the same so I'll check it out!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don’t want to re-read the Cay because I’d probably find it racist but man I have such good memories of it...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

From memory, it wasn't so bad. The kid was a little twat at first but the black guy is the only reason they survived.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I adored Indian in the Cupboard. I also loved Anne of Green gables and All of a kind Family

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

We read Where the Red Fern Grows in grade 3. Then we watched the movie. That's a lot for a classroom of 9 year olds to handle.

8 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

10yr old. Finished the book. Walked to a friend's place, crying (dad and mom were hangin out there). Threw book at dad. Then hugged.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We had it assigned in grade 4. One of the few times in my life I questioned god.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Teacher, can we read a book where the dog doesn't die, please?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Read a book in fifth grade called "No More Dead Dogs"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I cried when we read it in class, the other kids made fun of me for doing so

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kids are jerks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Where the Red Fern Grows" was the first book I cried to. Loyal to the end.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I loved the Bunnicula series. Can't wait to share them with my daughter.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the celery stalks at night!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any fans of The Magic Treehouse books? Some of my favorites as a child

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I loved those books as a kid! I would read them all several times over and over

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never read them as a child but I read them to my child years ago. Great!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i wonder how many of these will be banned in teh future for being offensive

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well Mark Twain's books are still sold uncensored so not very likely.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember a lot of these but one not included I still think about is Maniac Mcgee, I read it in the fourth grade.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

amen, loved that book as well

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know what, I thought I had included Maniac Magee...an all time favorite. I fully intended to, then missed it while trying to upload

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Many of these and of course, 'Hatchet'

8 years ago | Likes 318 Dislikes 2

Don’t be mad but I never really liked ‘Hatchet.’ It seemed a little pointless to me.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Brain's winter is pretty good too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah! Wasn't there a sequel?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If we're going to mention encyclopedia Brown, then we can't forget The Great Brain

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i love all the books by Gary Paulson

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The 2 sequels weren't bad, Brian's Winter I liked but Brian Returns was just okay

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And The River, another "Brian" book - in case you missed that one.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh yeah thanks

There's a whole genre of "kids surviving the wilderness" books. I think I read them all.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

YES! THIS!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I loved that book. I still would love to spend a few weeks in the Canadian wilderness and do...wildernessy stuff. Maybe fight a moose.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Make sure to get a young pilot.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't fight a moose. Unless it's a little moose. And momma's not around.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Mama is always around. Moose are beautiful and terrifying

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

tbh even then I wouldn't fight it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

no hardy boys and/or nancy drew?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I found out five years ago that Franklin W Dixon, Carolyn Keene, and Victor Appleton were (originally) the same 22 people.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can confirm. Was a bit of a blow to my childhood self

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are we the same person? Couldn’t have picked em better

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Right? There are maybe three books here that I'd switch out.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wayside school was/is my shit. When are they gonna turn that one into a movie?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Too chapter-based. Holes with LeBouf was actually really good though. (I have a potato tattoo on my ankle).

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My 6th grade teacher read where the red fern grows and cried when the dog died. Award moment that I will never forget.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Did you happen to go to Dr. Charles Best?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spoilers! Lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh my god, I hadn't thought about tuck everlasting in so long, and was hit with a wave if nostalgia. Thank you for reminding me of this 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Huge part of my childhood 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know. Just seeing the covers of these, I can smell the pulp paper and see the room of my 8 year old self.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So 90% of these titles hit home for me, but not Tuck Everlasting. Do I read it now? As an adult?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I read this book in 4th grade and loved it. Just reread it and it's still fantastic. A quick read though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea for sure, it's been awhile but I think it's enjoyable for all ages

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A Wrinkle In Time caused me to hate teachers. My 5th grade teacher was pregnant, and left in the middle of the school year/lesson for AWIT.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

We had to write an essay about a character. So I wrote about IT. My sub gave me a C on the paper because she said I used the pronoun "It"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

too much. I tried to explain to her,but she said the grade was final and wouldn't listen to 25 kids complaining they deserved a better grade

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Read it again. As an adult it's a jumble of existentialism, quantum theory, and philosophy. Still an amazing book.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Choose Your Own Adventure, anyone?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Oh yeah. The ones I read were called Fighting Fantasy by Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone. I loved there books.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those are a TINY bit more involved than the other series, though.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good times tho. Think thats what made me like reading so much.
