#4 The branding is weird, but there's already stuff like brown sugar-bourbon bacon, and sweet and salty is an incredibly solid flavor combination. I don't think that this is all that strange?

The Federal Reserve system was created under Wilson. FDR's administration saw Glass-Steagall, and FDIC. Also it started the process of removing gold and silver as currency.
