Legs not forget the Germans strapped bombs on the dogs taught them to go to tanks and blew them up.
Well I WAS having a good day! You would prob like the show “Hunters” on Amazon Prime! It’s about nazi hunters! Lot of tidbits/facts from ww2
talianagisan
Except didnt they (or was it the cheeki breeki's) have problems as they ran back to their own tanks.
PeteThePerv
that was the russians
RuthlessRuben
Soviets did the same thing. Their dogs got scared of gunfire, returned to friendly lines, and blew up there.

I thought it was because they were trained on Soviet tanks and so they ran instinctively to the Soviet tanks?
Hey, now that you mention it, you're right, I think that was part of it too. Totally forgot that.
Sabru25
sort of. it was the smell of the fuel used in russian tanks, which smelled differently to german fuel.
It was actually just the russians who did it. When questioned later by the russians, one german prisoner said that they examined (1/?)
unexploded bombs, considered the scheme and judged it highly inefficient. You're right about the gunfire though. (2/?)
Another issue was they were trained on soviet tanks, which used different fuel to german tanks and smelled differently (3/?)
so the doggos followed the scent they knew and ran to russian tanks instead. the most successful use of dogs was at kursk.
