For the last few months I've been collecting the original 151 Pokemon cards, and today I finally put them all together as some office art for my company. Here's how I did it.

Got all the pieces together. That's a custom order frame (£80). Also I needed way more than 1 superglue, I ended up buying 4.

I took the MDF backing off wrapped it in this black fabric. Then stapled the back together.

I made it as tort as possible.

This took ages, making sure everything was lined up, the first cross was the hardest.

Here the cross is complete. You can see I dropped some superglue (hence the white spot in the bottom left section).

So for hours, and I mean maybe 4/5 hours I painstakingly stuck 151 sheets to this piece of MDF. I watched the Brighton v Burnley game as I did it.

Nearly done.

Done. You can see I had to leave 2 spaces in the bottom right.

Time to start slipping the cards in...

Half way through. Double checking the order as I go

Done. Every card is in.

Now I had to take the clear plastic from the frame, put it on, and peel back the protective layer. This was SO SATISFYING.

So satisfying...

Done. I think it came out well.

Pretty big.

It's going to go on the wall just above that sofa for everyone to see.

I hope you enjoyed it. If anyone is looking to make one I'm happy to give tips!

You add a anti UV light layer so the UV won't destroy the colir

See if you can get a uv filter on the screen, otherwise they'll bleach in a few years

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but atleast you used actual cardframes and didn't glue the cards to the frameboard :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would stick a UV blocker to cover it, otherwise the sun will bleach those cards!

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

That's....actually really freaking awsome! May steal your idea+1

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

+1 for the execution.. -2 for those darn empty spots! cool thing tho. I have almost all the cards from when i was a kid with no use

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The fact that you justified left irritates me.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

those 2 free spots... dear god put some placeholders in there, art, whatever...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would've put Professor Oak and a Pokédex in the first two slots.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're gonna get all the girls.....

That empty spot, order gym badges/pins. Moderately cheap on Amazon

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's the size of the frame?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would love to do this as well, but how much did it cost to collect all the cards aren't they really expensive by now?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You couldn't have put like a plaque or something in the bottom right? It's driving me crazy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are these cards worth a lot? If so what about UV damage?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

These aren't first edition or shadowless, these are the unlimited runs. Which means a lot less in price.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still. How much?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Other guy's comment sounds about right. I know what to look for, but not really much on prices as I'm not really interested the old cards.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This guy is jealous.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why didn't you center the bottom row!?!?!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

hey Pete, where did you get frame from? i have been looking all over for one! what size is it?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dumb question: Is Lugia included in the original 151?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You are right, That is a dumb question.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Lugia is 2nd gen, so no.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’ll give you $3.50 for all of them

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$350 and you got yourself a deal.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cool Idea !

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The real question is... were you supporting Brighton?

Not leather, probably 2nd cousin

once removed on his mother's side.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just glad that set of cards landed an interview

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Early 90s Kid approved

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

pokemon came out in 98/99 for the western world...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

So i was 7/8 at season start. Perfect time start watching pkm?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

which would not make you an early 90s kid

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I panicked when I first saw the super glue because I thought you were going to superglue the raw back of the cards to the board

8 years ago | Likes 966 Dislikes 1

My grip on my phone tightened in fear for a minuet

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yes! I was so relieved when he started gluing the sleeves!

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yessss i was dying inside

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Same here

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Same

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My reaction was NO DON'T DO THAT OHMYGOD

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I thought this also.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Omg, I had the same thought

8 years ago | Likes 131 Dislikes 0

I didn't panic, but i'm like well i'm going to do something similar with my cards, but not destroy the backs :P

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Super glue is acidic and gives off fumes, putting all that in an enclosed frame still isn't doing the cards any favors, haha.

8 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 6

Looks like it had time to air out first.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Doesn't matter. The glue will outgas over time.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Really? It continues to degrade that quickly even after solidifying? I'm curious on the mechanism here.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's less degrading and more that there is residual uncured material encapsulated inside, which eventually escapes

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A student of mine did that as a present for me. He glued a mega gengar to a sheet of paper he drew on. I was crying internally for the card.

8 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

people still collect them old cards? I think i have 200-300 or so o.O

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I collect them. I love mine so much. I have a banker's box filled to the brim

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of those can be worth some $$ nowadays.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Are you trying to get rid of them??

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly have not thought of it, they are still at my parrentses house and i havent lived there for a while. So I can't say

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey if you ever go back and get your cards and don't want them I'd be willing to buy the ones in good condition.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Original 151 pokemon - cards." There were a lot more than 150 "original pokemon cards".

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Oh, come on. Really? You're gonna nit-pick THAT?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Trainers need love too!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What ruleset are you using? The original/Post XY, where everything is a Trainer, or the R/S/E/D/P/Plat where everything is separate?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Energy cards arn't trainers.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, you've got Trainers, and then you have Trainers, Supporters, Stadiums, then you have Trainer-Item, Trainer-Supporter, Trainer-Stadium.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much did it cost to get all 151 originals? I want this

8 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 1

You could save money and get them as Base 2 editions. The original 150/151 are spread over Base, Fossil and Jungle. But Base 2 has them all

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This made me cry. I have the basic/jungle/fossil original sets and I was convinced as a kid they'd make me rich some day

Obsessively store them and freak out when anyone touches them in my experience.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny enough, if you just had some sealed booster boxes from back then, they'd be worth way more.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know. There ya go eh.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About £150-£200 for the cards, as I wanted them all in near mint condition and base set 1. Frame £80 Other bits £20-30 So about £250ish ????

8 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

$333 freedom* dollars *terms and conditions apply

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm lazy, how much is that in freedom units?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$200-266 for the cards and $107 for the frame

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should post close up pics of some of these. You might have struck gold on a few

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That's impressive since not all 151 pokemon were in base set. :P Also, it bothers me that you have a few 1st eds, when rest are unlimited

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yeah since jungle and fossil are technically not base set he probably just meant not base set 2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which card was the most expensive? Just curious, honestly.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

No doubt it's the Charizard.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your guess?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Mewtwo holographic original? or mew?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dragonite!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

charizard or mew would be my guess.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

charzard prob

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Zapdos. Or probably Mew. But the latter my just be my childhood trying to chime in ;)

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I thought Charizard went for 2k

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

If it's not first edition, it usually goes for anywhere from $20-50 in mint condition

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1st printing does, and it's marked on the card as a 1st ed. Reprints are cheap

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

SHADOWLESS holographic 1st edition does.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I have a crapload of 1st edition cards from back then just sitting in a box. I really should go through them...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll be more than happy to *cough* borrow them
