Yeah absolutly did not place that mirror shard there himselfs at all. "My trash becomes my treasure" would've worked just as well without this fake Social Media intro.

Should go without saying but please be careful if you're going to try this yourself, that stuff is insanely sharp. It's not a question of if you'll cut yourself, but how badly. Blood WILL be part of the learning process

Incredible skills...and who needs gloves anyways?! Cowards!!

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Step one find a piece of broken mirror done. Step two own several thousand dollars worth of stained glass equipment and materials.

Replaced both terrarium tops last night from cut scraps. PRO TIP: Crappy thrift store paintings are cheaper than new glass.

Tiffany style stain glass. Wrapping each piece with copper tape, brush acid to clean, then solder. Very delicate. Fantastic work and imagination

I don't know how to articulate that the mirror seemed insignificant in all the other non recycled materials and skills going into this. Very cool a lot of skill bravo, beautiful, I love it, honest, but this is a one off droplet in a sea of trash needing to be recycled.

If you don't seal the edges of the mirror with clear nail polish, your mirror will rot

I've seen enough Final Destination movies that you aren't gonna catch me carrying a giant jagged mirror piece away from a dumpster like that guy

It being sharp's the red herring. The sun reflecting off the mirror blinding the garbage truck driver is what gets ya.

My greatest fear about that art is the lead I heard was involved in it years ago, do they still use led in the creation of these?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We did glass projects like that in middle school art class! It was one of the first times I used a soldering iron.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I hate it...

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Great work. Well done. My feeble attempts consist of simply grinding the edge to make it non-cutting and turning a broken wall mirror into a hand mirror.

Talented people can do crazy shit...

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Stained glass projects aren't nearly as complicated as they may at first seem, and the tools aren't all that expensive either. It's a pretty neat hobby.

It's not junk, it's treasure

This is literally upcycling.

Or, the second R of the RRR loop.

Why not cut it under water?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the love of pete put gloves on

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't do that bare handed, myself. Slicing your palm open really sucks.

Your fingers are what get cut. Ask me how I know. :(

I watch a glass artist person and they say it's better to do it barehanded

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, I'm not a glassworker, but I do work at a hospital and I have seen some pretty nasty injuries on tradesmen who eschew safety because it's faster or easier. I've also personally sliced my palm open by accident when I was younger, it sucked.

Don't try it as a beginner. But after years of stained glass work, we stop caring LOL

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm sure he planted that piece so he knew what he was working with.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most of it is fine… with how clean those curves came out I would bet he has a ring saw or at least a grinder and I would use gloves / eye protection when working with those but the scrape and crack most people don’t use gloves

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like a few minutes is missing. Show about showing more of the cutting of the circle? Do you grind those?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was it really necessary for him to place a scrap of his own offcut mirror by a dumpster?

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Is it really necessary to assume everything is fake? Even when it's something completely inconsequential?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Need to seal the edges of those pieces of mirror, otherwise you'll get mirror rot in a few years

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Is that copper tape put there because of that? Preventing oxidation or something?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The copper foil is how stained glass is assembled. You foil each piece then solder them together.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that a thing with modern mirrors? You made me realize I hadn't seen that in a long time.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now snort coke off it.

But, but, how? It is hanging on the wall! Have you watched the video? Duh.

Absolutely amazing talent. I feel like there is more mirror in the finished product than what they picked up in the streets

1 month ago | Likes 274 Dislikes 2

My dad used to do stained glass as a hobby, I picked up a little from him bit never got that good. This is really nice work.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There 100% is but I see mirrors like that in the trash all the time so not an unreasonable assumption he had some laying around from a previous find.

1 month ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

Also, he picks up two pieces.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They did pick up two pieces, did you notice?

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I did not notice - thank you!

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think thats just because its round. He picks up a fairly square piece of mirror and ends up with a circle that has a slightly larger diameter than the leg length of the original square. This makes it feel wrong, but a circle doesnt use 21% of the area of the square it fits inside of.

Theres also extra space from leading and the colored glass lending to the impression that its bigger.

Its incredible planning if no extra mirror was needed, but feasible (to my eye, at least).

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I could be 100% wrong here, I just spend a lot of time doing designs with shapes in illustrator and turning pieces around can "feel" like something is bigger than it should be. Our brains are easily fooled by geometry.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This is true and I can almost agree with you as I have a freakishly good eye for measurements. Placing all the circular shapes on top of the initial mirror in an orientation that has zero overlap with but has as many edges touching as possible and he didn't mess up breaking a single one may fit but it would be extremely tight with no room for error. I think it more likely that there was at least one other mirror involved.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The "another man's trash" element is extraneous.

1 month ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 2

He probably also put the broken mirror pieces there specifically to "find" them for his video. Everything is bullshit these days. :(

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yep, that's likely where the extra mirror later comes from. The other half he broke off of the cheap mirror panel he bought to make it with.
