Man the folks at Disney have it so easy. When I do this it's always " sir this is a Wendy's!" Or "stop hugging my grandma!" I just have so much love to give! ya know?
We took th grand kids when they were 5. All I can remember about that whole day is realizing that the kids considered the characters real. I was sad that I had missed that.
Second kid in the first vid... I maintain the belief that if you don't react with shock or fear to a kid doing something that should hurt, they don't even notice it. Just "oops fell down lol, oh well back to kid stuff"
It was impossible to get a beer at DisneyWorld when I was there. Wine was only served in expensive restaurants. Come with your stuff, or your bottle. Or both.
Thats been tradition since the gates opened. In any venue and park really. Sneaking booze in is part of the experience, i came all this way, payed this much, im gonna have a good time. I bet a good chunck of vomits at disney parks was induces by alcohol and not being able to keep a cool stomach after some rides.
Agreed! The Thor character over at DCA is also hilarious. If he sees you with food, he'll bug you about not being invited to the heroes' feast, and probably call you puny too.
If ever I have enough money or rich enough, and my stupid ass rebelious brain doesn't stop complaining about corporations taking advantage of our asses, the person I wanna meet in a disney park would be Dr. Facilier, Keith David is a masterpiece of a man, also that guy who played as Dr. Facilier in Princess and the Frog live.
I very much hope Disney has policies to address that. I know they aren't legally mandated reporters, but they chose to operate in this space so that comes with some baggage.
Some of the most depressing things I've ever heard of they experience. Because children completely trust them, I hear many whisper "My dad beats me" or something similar hoping for help.
When I worked there in the mid 2000's the performers (the ones in character) worked 15min per hour (mainly because Florida is fucking hot) and got paid for the whole hour and got paid 3 times what us regular cast got. I worked in Merchandise and Security.
I agree on that one. I never meant to imply the performer don't earn every cent they currently make and everyone deserves. When I started merch I was paid minimum wage $5.15
Former CM: that wasnt the case back in the day. Parade people and characters had the best drugs. Nowadays, yeah. They don't make anything for the amount of work they do
When you say the best drugs all I can picture is Ariel unzipping a pocket in her tail and handing you a bag of weed grown behind the scenes in The Land.
Costumed CM are 100% forbidden to wear or portray any Disney characters while not working. That said, that didn't stop snow white and Cinderella from having absolute raging parties
Not just the children. My mom loves everything Disney, and we took her there for a trip on the second anniversary of her "cancer free" diagnosis. I ordered a small floral arrangement to be in the hotel room with a note celebrating it. The hotel staff delivered it, along with a much bigger arrangement, a card "signed" by a bunch of the original characters, and a plate of desserts and chocolates and things and refunded my original order. I'll never forget that.
I was just thinking as I was watching this, it's too bad Disney is so evil because they also bring so much that's good into the world. But the evil outshines it, sadly. Not to kids luckily, but to us.
They bought Star Wars for $5,000,000,000 which has been paid back, and profit is been made every year on only that franchise.
Cast members get paid $10-15/hr, from what I hear. It's a fucking atrocity that they don't make at least $45-50/hr minimum; that sort of work seems like that's what they'd be worth. But nope, instead they pay Tom Hanks, Samuel L Jackson, Pedro Pascal, etc, each $150,000,000 every year to be in a movie or show.
Ah, so they're starting to "get with the times." jfc, the balance sheets that drive these decisions of major corporations flabbergast me. Their profit is literally billions and then they "run lean" so that they can maximize even more profit. Every capitalist pays their workers the minimum amount that they're able to because A) workers don't know any better, and B) workers are willing to work for peanuts, just to eat.
Laws be damned, if the CEO doesn't get his paycheck, the world ends.
That's still not enough to live on in a tourist town like Orlando or really most places. I was making $19.50/hr a decade ago and could barely afford a studio apartment in a rural town that was over an hour from my office. I would have to stop at the food bank a couple times a month because I was priced out of pretty much anything but chicken and rice.

These native ads for Disney Parks & Resorts are so more obnoxious than a programmer advertising their indie game.

I love the Character Actors, and all Kudos to them.
However, Disney is an abhorrent Employer.

I didn’t smile, because this is lame, and I also didn’t cry, because it’s so lame. I swear.

The emotional energy they give out must be exhausting for them. There are really great people in those costumes and outfits.

Disney Cast Members are seriously underpaid and deserve a raise and better benefits.
Some of them live out of their cars.

I think ALL cast members at Disney Parks are underpaid, to be clear, not just the costumed performers.

It's already a wonder that they don't die inside their costumes.

Some are already dead on the inside.

And a face character ALWAYS wears a wig and you can imagine what that's like walking around in a hot park.
The unions have rejected ice vests in suits multiple times for fears Disney would then leave characters out there longer.

I'm really not a fan of Disney as a company but these cast members can be truly magical for the children and I absolutely appreciate them

My parents STILL talk about the interactions I had as a very small child on trips to Disney parks.
saucearonichee
We met ‘Cinderella’ at the park recently and she was wonderful, kind and funny.
lightfoot2
And yet they do so much in terms of magical moments.... Disney is just evil.
noWhiteHorseHereJustBatturuPrinsu
Capitalism is evil, Disney adapts, so does Nintendo. Laws arounds Copyright and Intellectual Property need some serious changes.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I was just thinking as I was watching this, it's too bad Disney is so evil because they also bring so much that's good into the world. But the evil outshines it, sadly. Not to kids luckily, but to us.
lightfoot2
Yeah. They do, but at a terrible price. Dollywood does a similar level of good without the bad.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Yeah that's the thing, they don't *have* to be evil, but they're *choosing* to. For money. Money just kills everything.

I don't think you should pit one set of workers against another set of workers.
Disney could pay those actors that plus pay a living wage to their theme park staff.
It's not either/or
imperfectregulator
The lowest any Disney park cast member is being paid at the moment is 18$ still not a lot, but it’s a far cry from 10$
