200 of us were sitting cross legged on the floor, in a room with one 19" black and white TV. I had a copy of the pictures LIFE magazine got from NASA when it came out. It was real life Harry Potter, only with science, not pretend.

Plus a lot of TV sets were built into furniture and designed to be at floor level. Putting them on a shelf wasn't really an option.

My earliest memory is watching the moon landing at my grandmas house. I was in a high chair and mom was feeding me. Yes, I actually remember that! Can't remember much else from growing up though!

The thing I remember most about K-Mart aka S S. Kreske was them roping off an aisle or two due to "blue laws" making it illegal to buy cleaning supplies on Sunday.

We had a "dry county" back in the day and also blue laws that simply closed everything on Sunday (except the big Baptist church preacher's daughter's legs - but that's a different story). There was a gas/grocery in town and every Sunday the owner stayed open. Every Sunday the Sheriff came around and wrote him a citation with a good size fine. He did so much "Blue Business" that it was just considered a necessary expense. The 175 year old 1st. Nat Bank is now a craft beer brew pub - times change

Cleaning supplies? I have heard of state blue laws for booze on sunday but never cleaning supplies.

yeah, Blue laws cover a lot of weird errata to prevent working on the holy day, as well as alcohol, sometimes it get odd like you can buy nails but not a hammer

I bought my first car on 11 Sept. 01. The showroom of the dealership looked much the same. Everybody was watching the big screen TV (which I imagine normally had some sort of infomercial for the cars they were selling).

Yea i worked in a small hardware/general store. One of the girls who worked in the clothing section saw me coming in and told me about it. Store also sold guns (small amount, shotguns, hunting rifles, that kind of thing) and that got interesting.

Computers and automation. Modern factories are mostly automated as well which is one of the biggest reasons "factory jobs" have declined. Don't need 2 people pounding lids onto paint cans and 2 more stacking boxes of cans then wrapping them up.
