It looks like the sort of car that if you hang around it too long, very serious men in long dark coats approach you and ask what your business is, and then pointedly tell you to move on.
It's not made out of paper. Minor bumps wouldn't do much to it. Sure, touching up the paint will be hideously expensive compared to fixing a scratch on your Corolla, but not in absolute terms - and a scooter can't hurt this thing. Modern cars on the other hand would absolutely obliterate it (even a small modern car would), of course.
Nope. The 1930 Speed Six that raced the Blue Train was a different example with a different body on the same chassis. This is the Gurney Nutting Sportsman Coupe, not the car that raced the train.
Reminds me of the 1929 Auburn Boattail Speedster I used to see at my local gas station. I love the look of cars from this era with their flowing sleek lines
I'd probably sooner argue that decopunk is a derivative of Dieselpunk as both kind of require a...I guess I would say a "heavy" or "dense" aesthetic to the design. Diesel engines are incredibly heavy compared to petrol, for example, and all art deco buildings are usually steel and stone. I'd sooner label the Boattail as raypunk. The Bentley in the post is definitely Dieselpunk though (even though it's petrol powered)
Looking at it more closely (didn't even click on the photo, admittedly, just looked at the thumbnail), the owner is phony. This is a 2000s replica. The interior and much wider wheels are obvious giveaways, but also hoses on the wrong side, lack of a hatch behind the passenger side door, wrong chrome trim, wrong door hinges, wrong seat, etc. pp. This is unfortunately a common thing: Cars this rare and valuable attract liars who like to pass off their clumsy copies as the real deal all the time.
I have that one. On a small scale though... But it's probably the most beautiful toy car I have. (And I've had it for almost 50 years, so it's getting to be an antique soon ;) )
1) it looks cool as shit, 2) this is not your only car. 3) you use this when you wanna flex more then you wanna be sensible 4) it looks COOL AS SHIT, 5) not your only car, 6) its about sending a message
The Bentley cockpit coachwork was coated in green leather, that's why it looks matte compared to the glossy British Racing Green bonnet (hood) and fenders. I learned that when I was building an Airfix model kit that I had previously built as a boy and, back in the 1970s, I had inexpertly painted the car one shade of green. It was very tricky to get that two-tone look, and it tested me to the limits of my abilities, but I ended up loving that texture offset.
not as much as by the hood. The fenders alone being gloss would look fine if they were not the color as the body. Its mainly that section between the glass and the hood that causes the issue

Cars from the 30s look like a Nazi Germany era kind of car.

I still ask myself how could the German Nazis create such a cute care though:

Bentley Speed Six with H. J. Mulliner saloon coachwork. Raced the Blue Train in 1930 in England.
ToobyBoody
Ah, that must be why i see it called the 'Bentley Blue Train' in a few places. thanks!
LeifHietala
Negative. This is the Gurney Nutting custom that was delivered after a different Speed Six raced the train.

charondaboatman
It’s actually a Gurney Nutting coupé-bodied Speed Six , and not the Blue Train Bentley. Sadly, the actual “Blue Train Bentley” was a more sedate 4 door Bentley Speed Six sedan. https://www.pebblebeachconcours.net/cars/the-blue-train-bentley-a-mystery-solved/

The actual Blue Train car is pictured midway down the story. The Gurney Nutting car is gorgeous, no question. But it isn't the legendary race winner.

Would you describe this as Decopunk or Dieselpunk?

I'd probably sooner argue that decopunk is a derivative of Dieselpunk as both kind of require a...I guess I would say a "heavy" or "dense" aesthetic to the design. DdCno1
This is the 1935 version, not the 1929 one, which had a much more conservative design.
MostAwesomeDan
To be fair, this was over ten years ago, but I could've swore that's what the owner told me. I do see the differences comparing them online, good eye!
DdCno1

Random fact the sr-71 Blackbird has a turning radius of 160+km (approx 100miles) at mach 3
TheRealFireFrenzy
thats pretty small compared to what i thought it'd be...
Nykidemus
Why would anyone *ever* want a car that long? You'd need a pull through parking space every time.
ilhares
Just one of many reasons why we back it in when we park.
TheRealFireFrenzy
1) it looks cool as shit, 2) this is not your only car. 3) you use this when you wanna flex more then you wanna be sensible 4) it looks COOL AS SHIT, 5) not your only car, 6) its about sending a message
Nykidemus
It's definitely a cool car, but it's not the length that makes it cool.
TheRealFireFrenzy
correct, but if you made it shorter it'd fuck up the proportions, and if you scaled it down in all dimentions it'd be to small to sit inside off...
whiskeywonka
Am I the only one annoyed that the hood is glossy and the doors are matte?
excandusno
You should look up Weymann fabric body construction to learn why. The car is a modern replica by the way.

In person it might look very differnt, thanks for the info
WolfTarAnis
Probably not, though to me the two tone look is awesome.
whiskeywonka
Its the location of the split that is at issue. Ive been informed that classically it was done in leather. In person it likely looks much different.
RamanBiot
Agreed. It would look better entirely matte.
whiskeywonka
Yea all matte or all gloss. That partial just ticks off my ocd
PostHartmann
My previous comment was a valid question. This answers the question. Sorry.
PostHartmann
Fenders are glossy too. Are you annoyed by that?
whiskeywonka
not as much as by the hood. The fenders alone being gloss would look fine if they were not the color as the body. Its mainly that section between the glass and the hood that causes the issue

Take care. Thanks for not being offended.
