Maybe have them throw it down a shooting range? ... and like, clear out the people standing in their line of fire? Like how did we come to the conclusion that the javelin is the issue and not the people standing in front of the spear throwers?
"But contrary to popular belief, those record-breaking distances were not the reason for World Athletics (then known as the IAAF) changing the specification of the javelin. The main reason the Technical Committee decided to change the rules for javelin construction was because of the increasingly frequent flat landings and the resulting discussions and protests because of attempts declared valid or invalid by competition judges." ... so the video is BS.
In the 1950s, Spanish athletes developed a rotating javelin throwing style, the "Spanish style," with which thrower Miguel de la Quadra reached 112.30 meters. The style was banned shortly afterward, and his records annulled, supposedly because it was too dangerous.
That's just throwing a long skinny discus. If they can spin like that AND make the javelin go straight then more power to them, but yeah, on tiny "oops" and someone is getting a 70 mph spear straight in the head.
Mens uniforms are regular shorts with legs that go down the thigh.
It's been a bit of a controversial issue for uniforms that the women's clothing are designed for sex appeal whereas men's uniforms are entirely function-over-form.
No, just regular shorts. It's been an issue for a while about the sexist characteristics of women's uniforms compared to the neutral uniforms given to the men.
Women athletes from multiple countries have spoken out about overly revealing uniform requirements for women compared to men's regulations in international sports.
My dad saw a full through torso strike in highschool when a girl ran out. Pinned her to the ground, missed all her organs. Probably used up all her luck. Lol. Or my dad is a liar. I choose to believe him, he rarely exaggerates other things
My dad was also a notorious liar, but it was made all the more difficult because he lived a fucking weird life. He broke his neck 3 times during my childhood, for example. Grew up in Compton... *that* Compton. During that time. So were his tales of making nitroglycerine in high school and blowing up breezeblock fences just stories? No clue!
It's not entirely impossible. Organs can move around quite a bit and are actually pretty tough. Javelins aren't exactly sharp, just slightly pointed for aerodynamics. So entirely possible that it just pushed the organs aside as it traveled through rather than pierce them.
Oh yeah, and im also inclined to believe it because of the descriptions of the therapies the school provided and which of his friends freaked out mentally over it, etc. Plus it was right around when they stopped doing javelin in our area. Still heresay. Lol
Nope. Look it up, especially in sports that have both men's and women's versions. The men get shorts. The women? It's bikini bottoms, or they get disqualified.
that looks like gymnastics and beach volley... in track there were no such regulations. Although athletes need to follow federation assigned clothes which I don't know if there has been that many complaints around.
"nearly" ... multiple officials have been nailed in the chest and such, and one dude died from being hit in the fucking face... regardless, this video is about something completely different...
I still remember being in class and gazing out the window (as one often did being undiagnosed adhd kid in those days) and seeing Gary* hobbling across the courts outside, holding is jaw, he being helped along by a very concerned looking PE teacher, just as the sounds of sirens pull up at the back gates, his ride awaiting.
Turns out he'd run to pick up a javelin, slipped in the wet grass, straight up through the bottom of his jaw and out the cheek.
(like, he was in our year, but none of my classes, so didn't really know him - and I've always been shit with names, much better with faces ... unless they're out of context..)
I never understood why anyone would need to stand in the general direction of the deadly weapon... At least install little shacks that provides protection, just in case...

A javelin is a weapon. It's not meant for showing off, it's meant to kill things. They should have optimized it to be thrown further.

Or just use plexiglass shields. It's not like we lack the materials technology to stop a <500 J projectile with a blunt tip reliably.
