If you're interested in the nuts & bolts of light speed and time dilation, I highly recommend watching the youtuber's (FloatHeadPhysics) entire video https://youtu.be/Vitf8YaVXhc?si=QH0Fp4Fa0VCE8MiS. Very concise and easy to follow.

TL;DR The universe has physics lag.

Floathead explains physics intuitively in a way easy to understand.

Light speed is too slow because most stars are too far away for us to get there within a lifetime. There are only about 10,000 stars we can get to in 100 years at light speed. Of course other galaxies are much farther..

Yeah but if you're actually traveling at light speed time stops for you. For the photon, not a single instant has passed from when it was emitted to where it ends. That said, it's still not feasible for intergalactic travel because civilizations would rise and fall in the time it takes to travel, although no time would have passed for you.

And distances shrink. The problem isn’t with the traveler. The problem lies with those that didn’t go on the trip.
