Fascism is rot from within. It takes hold in government when people begin to exploit the cracks between laws designed to support a free and open society, and then blames the government for the damage they created.

It can take a decades or centuries to form, but democracies, when allowed to progress on their own without external influence, always end with a series of leaders with fascist (inherently anti-free) tendencies coercing the ignorant by lying to them and appealing to their basest instincts. They change the laws so the society becomes more autocratic, and when bad things happen because of that, they blame the surviving part of the government for the things that were the fault of their policies, to gain more support.

They may even genuinely believe that what they are doing is good instead of evil, and that the bad things are not their fault.

Eventually, the line comes to an end with one single autocrat, whose lust for power destroys both himself and his society.

We've seen this throughout history, from ancient Rome to the Russian Federation, and we're seeing it now develop in the West.

IT. MUST. BE. STOPPED.

The price of freedom, rights, democracy or progress is eternal vigilance.

This is nonsense. Dictatorships are the greatest threat to freedom, not democracy. When power is consolidated in one individual.

I feel like this is happening in the Netherlands. We desperately need a rule for max term so the asshole doesnt stay any longer

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Small fact frog.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You write as if it started yesterday when the shift to the right started back in 08, if not before.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Already voted. Now I just sit back and wait... ughhh...

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It often uses the guise of freedom in which to take power away from people. The calls to return to a mythical old America.

Or a more pure and right era, a utopia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Origins_of_Totalitarianism#

Liberalism leads ro fascism! (Thats why we need to bring down liberal burgois republics and base pur society on local selfmaneg. socialism)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Cant believe what we live again, we dont learn from past at all

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really don't think it's social norms but what a society allows to be normalized. In a long enough timeline the people will choose anything

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fascism appears when there is huge differences between social classes kinda what we see now in a lot of democracies Poorly regulated capital

Q: Do all dictators and wanna be's have to be absolute toddlers? A: Of course.

This is the meme that has no name, and produces no results on Google regardless of what you search. "Spinning kid meme"?

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've searched for a clue in the jacket of the unknown "exPLOrer" kid. It just goes around and around. The original found on Google was lost.

Fascism is the result of capitalism. We will never be of the former until we have destroyed the latter.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Interesting. I hadn't thought about it that way before: a constant search for the loopholes in society to gain money and power.

Lack of consequences causes crime….checks out.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well summarized ?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let’s vote ?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Midterms are next week. Get your fucking lazy arses in gear. Brazil did. Now it’s your turn.

I thought you were talking about an exam at first, like this explanation was aiding your studies in some way. I'm amused at my stupidity.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, everyone needs to vote to make up for the ones who can't due to the voter suppression tactics of the Republicans.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hold on... Lemme finish this twinkie and big Mac

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Kinda- they had a lot of smaller runnings end up on the other side. Lulu was the big win but it’s exactly like Biden vs congress/senate

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

Still, it's a start.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Voted early, and voted blue.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Same. Fuck off Abbott.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Voted and verified my signature was good online. I am in a purely red state, so I at least say that I didn’t stand by and watch. Bo Burnham-

I think we need to start planning the post fascism resistance. How will it work? Organize? Etc?

Fascism is where capitalists parties go when threatened with small amounts of socialism.

Please use the #politics tag so those of us who come to imgur to just relax can filter stuff like this out.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You keep ignoring this, you're fucking doomed because they come for you eventually too.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I don't live in the states. In my country we don't have this problem. I'd recommend you take the topic to forums more local.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

What the fuck did I just say? Did you not see what the Nazis did in the 1930s? THEY WILL COME FOR YOU.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The problem is, a disturbingly large percentage of people prefer to live in ignorance and pretend its not happening, and won't care until it

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Education and culture is the best solution against fascism.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

propaganda does wonders m8. capitalist will inevitably side with fascist to preserve their wealth/power, and guess who controls the media?

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

goosesteps its way into their home and life, and by then it'll be to late, and their chance to have prevented it will be gone.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

What was the phrase? You can dismantle a democracy piece by piece... till there are jackboots in the halls? Forgot where I heard it.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Last I checked an entire generation of people wanted nothing more than to die young. Destabilizing a country can help with that.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fascism is like a fever. It triggers when the hierarchy is compromised. Suppression of worker rights and austerity first. Capitalists break>

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their own economy and country. Fascists come along with populism and offer simple solutions. Hierarchy is enforced. Austerity was never >

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

About restoring the economy, making it more sustainable. It doesn't do aby of that. But they still try to push it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fascism cannot be combated by the very system it's exploiting. Only through force can fascism be extinguished.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There's got to be a way to finally prevent it. Awareness is the start.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is no way to *finally* prevent it. There will always be selfish people for whom the ends justify the means; democracy is an active 1/

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

pursuit. Not only is it our duty to participate in our democracy, via voting, but to watch for and respond to fascism whenever it appears2/2

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fascism serves the same political purpose as Absolutism. As the absolute power of the monarch was used to defend feudalism from capitalism,

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So too is the absolute power of the state used to protect capitalism from Socialism. That's why most fascist dictatorships will collapse ...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... right back into a liberal democracy eventually. See Spain, Franco was allowed to do what he wanted and now Spain has returned to ...

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A democracy, but one where an entire generation of leftists we're hunted down and killed

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A) Fascism is capitalism's trump card. B) We understand fascism can't simply be voted out, right?

3 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 17

Voting buys time

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. Voting is a temporary stop gap. But there are much bigger reasons it exists other than voting.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes. Being prepared to defend vulnerable communities from the continuing pogroms perpetrated by the right is something more should do.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Not voting this time is inviting a wrecking ball into your house and hoping it doesn't take damage magically.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well that's easy, wrecking balls are blunt damage, not magical.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

While voting alone might not work, its still important. You need to use all available political tools to have a better chance of success.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a side note, the Spanish Civil War shows that fighting fascism with violence doesnt have a 100% success rate either.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, I hope we seriously are willing to use the others

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It can't be voted out, but the people that get voted in can pass legislation to slow or even stop it

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

....I disagree. I agree that voting is necessary. But I don't agree that those we vote for will be enough to halt or slow it.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's more to it than simply voting. If facists gain power, they use it to peel apart the communities group by group until there isn't

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

enough opposition to stop them from doing what they want to do.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

It can’t be voted OUT. But if the rest of us don’t vote, fascism will get voted IN.

3 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 3

I do appreciate the difference, and definitely have voted. And you all should as well. But sadly, fascism won't care.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

fascism got voted in 70 years ago. that rot is just now coming to the public conscience

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Thank you. Everything we're seeing is a symptom, not the disease. As soon as productivity was disconnected from wage increases... fucked.
