I'd swear there was a part where the Monster takes his creator's name as his own, sometime after Dr. Frankenstein dies. Spoiler alert...

Never understood the controversy. We often name objects after their creator in synecdoche. "Wearing Yves Saint Laurent" "It's a Picasso" etc

Monster's first name is Simon, he just prefers to go by his middle name. Confusion came from the phonebook listing, Frankstein, S Monster.
DisgruntledFerret
He's the creation of Dr. Frankenstein who sees him as a father (for good and bad). It wouldn't be weird to assume he would take the surname.
MechAnon
It's pronounced Fronkensteen, thank you.

the monster's name was victor.
DefenderOfDog
But does he not just have his creators name with no first name?
He refers to himself as "The Adam of your labors" so you could go with Adam.
So the mosters true name is adam frakenstien and we should not assume his gender because he could be afew parts she

https://xkcd.com/1589/ Calling the monster "Frankenstein" can be canonically correct, it just depends on which canon you are referring to.

He's arguably the son of Frankenstein, and Frankenstein is the surname, so it carries over.

We studied it in H.S. only thing I care to remember is it was written competitively during the "Mini Ice-Age". While on holiday. Myth?

Nope, true. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_Without_a_Summer At the very bottom is the bit concerning Shelley.
