If you use US plugs just snap off the ground pin like everyone else. You can also plug 2 in 1 socket (4 in one duplex) if you're brave.

Also as an electrician: the inside prongs still go where they need to, and the outside prongs are not connected. Its not grounded though...

One of the two exposed contacts is almost certainly live.

How would they? The top and bottom adapter prongs aren't connected to anything. The extra prong on the plug is a ground.
