You can notice it with how people now a days don't want to even risk a new restaurant unless it has 5 stars in yelp
CaptainSkyhawk
Current school testing does opposite. Vast parts of the school year is test prep and they are told this test will define their entire lives.
destinoz
Failure isn't a crisis to cope with, it's a requirement of growth. The object is to fail well and believe that you'll get further next time.
LollipopLich
I'm having an issue with this right now. Car died last week, kinda need to hit the ground running on a getting a new one... not working out
kibbypie
Hell fucking yes. One of the biggest things I work through with my kinders.
Gavener
shit, when ever i leave the house its nothing but issues i swear
HerrFalle
The concept of resilience is pretty interesting. Look up Emmy Werners kauai-study, you can learn a thing or two.
Blackbird2Raven
I've been anxious and fearing conflict since 4th grade. Not sure I'm even fixable anymore.
Raven2785
You cannot teach kids about failure when all we're doing is removing failure. From sports, from games, from testing, etc.
ISayIdontLikeSandWhenISeeSand
thats how i learned. some people just see me as a fuckup but they're blind to the fact that I've grown more than they ever will
CityNatureScienceArt
This. This right here is solid advice.
TheAngryMarineBiologist
Grew up with religious parents and a nutcase of a mother. This, 100%
BegoniaNom
Same. I don’t want kids for various reasons, but sometimes I want to raise kids right, the way I wish I had grown up.
Sajer
Same. Every failure was screamed at me and their love was based on conditions I could never live up to.

If you know what your problem is, fix it yourself weakling.

How about you teach them it's okay to make mistakes but they should learn from them and do their best to not do it again
MemeSins
That's what the post is saying
TheZompocalypse
Sometimes a problem can't be fixed. Instead learn from your mistakes so you don't create more problems alongside the initial one.
tehzpoon
"When you lose, don't lose the lesson." I teach my daughter this every single chance I get. And how to overcome fear/anxiety without help.
JealousCats
This is one of the reasons im angry at my dad. It was don't try unless you do it perfectly right. Then called stupid for messing up.
pres2pond
I'd love to, but the world doesn't tolerate mistakes.
JeanLucPicard
Many parents may not know how to deal with their own fuckups let alone teach someone else
Ghobe
This is just life now. It's not ideal, I don't feel better about it. In fact I'm kind of dead on the inside. At least I'm not worried?
MGSman
I would love to show the next generation "Meet the Robinsons." That movie made me see failure not as scary, but rather an opportunity
DefinitelyNotDavidDuchovny
If you've ever tried anything new, you're bound to make mistakes
HappyEngineer
If you're making no mistakes, you're not pushing yourself
Itwasmyname
So what you're saying is; don't try anything new and I'll make less mistakes? Awesome!
Klowntax
Nah sounds like you'll still be making the same mistakes at what's not new.
SnugglesaurusRex
How many dads made fun of them or yelled at them the first time they threw a ball? Mine did.
kungfucatattack
That's my problem right there. Fear is paralyzing.
IWorkInITAndHateIT
I would probably have needed this about 15 years ago.
Copperdragon
Correct. Acceptance of fallibility is a milestone in maturing; you WILL make mistakes. What matters is how you fix them.

That's actually a major problem in japan right now, companies there (that have no connections to the US) don't like to take risks
So then their economy actually sucks
BarryInTheStreetsOliverInTheSheets
As an Asian, I think I'd be less depressed if I'd understood being a b-sian was ok and enjoyed my life, instead of being Asian and needing
therapy and not having friends

One of the best pieces of advise I ever got when I was first starting in carpenters was from and old guy I worked with. He said 1/2
"Its not that a good carpenter never messes up, what makes a carpenter good is being able to fix it so that nobody can tell you messed up"
UncomfortableAnswers
"Never touch the belt sander with your penis. It doesn't feel as good as you think it will."
playstation360
This indeed.

I was one of those rare, but grateful ones with parents like this. Thank you mom and dad!
KungPowDicken
My parents were pretty straight forward with me. They didn't praise failure. They didn't reward success. They just said words.
GuacamoleMoleMolester
"You're adopted", "Pay rent or get out", "Gas, grass or ass"
They never said Gas Grass or Ass but they did say the other two quite frequently. Now I moved away and all they do is tell me to come home
aidslord
And what are you like?
I have answered.

Pls answer @KungPowDicken
I'm a sarcastic piece of shit. But I grab life by the horns and if I don't succeed at something I take a step back, analyze and try again.
After about the 3rd or 4th try I start to have a mental break down and throw a silent fit. If I don't get it by the 5th I completely give up
Sounds healthy
