But remember, still gotta threaten to withhold your vote for Biden too!

World war is not looming. Too much money at stake. Cross that off your list. This older generation seems to be filled full of entitled cowards. That…is…bad.

Dictators don’t live long in America sorry

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Guys... can we just lighten up the mood just for today?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Every single year for as long as I can remember WW3's been going to start, and we're all going to be doomed. At this point it either needs to shit or get off the pot.

Not if we kick GOP ass at the ballot box. The ball is totally in our court.

Oof

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Is anybody who really understand current global conflicts worried about a World War.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

No

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

We were already under threat of dictatorship last year.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My approach is to only use the assets of major Hollywood studios and their executives likenesses to create just the most heinous ai pornography imaginable. You won't believe what Bob Iger mouth do.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Conversely - We're making massive strides on climate change. EVs are picking up and solar power is now cheaper than coal. The U.S has continued to stand by Ukraine in a war Russia thought was going to be a quick takeover, and the AI tools are actually pretty awesome. We're at another "welcome to the internet" moment. Honestly, the future looks brighter than it has in years.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

yeah, the AI scare is dumb. Either AI is unimaginative and doesn't create art. Or it does create art and is an equal.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for that

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh, no. I've had an anonymous user tell me that Russia is just dragging out the war on purpose and could conquer Ukraine tomorrow if Putin ordered it. The user was serious. I still chuckle about it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

WW3 started in 2008, when Russia began supporting separatists and invaded Georgia. Seizing Crimea was the same as Nazis seizing Austria and the West's response was Chamberlain's appeasement all over again. Invading Ukraine was next step and West won't be doing anything more to avoid all out war.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Soooo.... 16 years later and it'll get here any minute, right?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No war just happens, it always builds up. Might take another 10 years or more before someone does something irrevocable. Sept 1, 1939, Poland was invaded, but we know WW2 started long before. Same thing here.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Sometimes it takes a longer view to see the patterns of events. Russia''s flirtation with democracy has crashed just like Weimar, slower less spectacularly, but Putin is the "strong man" and war is his only outcome, just like every other strong man leader. Keeps people distracted and the don't see how shitty things are getting so won't turn on their strong man. He always has someone to blame, "the enemy".

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Interesting doomsday forecast, but I think most would disagree.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, they do, but that doesn't make me wrong. We shall see. Historians always like a point and say "This is when this war started." Unfortunately, they are always wrong. They talk about causes, but never take them as starting points. e.g. Treaty of Versailles, 1919, was a direct link to WW2, but is never counted as a starting point. Has anyone asked if the Treaty was less harsh on Germany, would Hitler have been able to gain the power he did to lead into WW2? We don't know, but maybe not.

On the plus side, some Republicans have said (on Twitter) that they'll only ever vote for Trump, and won't vote at all if he's not on the ballot (and will encourage other Republicans to do the same). So, if the Supreme Court kicks him off the ballot, a lot of Republican voters will stay home on voting day.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I trust them not to vote about as much as I trust my kid to be safe at church...

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I don't think it'll happen either, but it'd be nice if it did.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

We don't even get skynet. We get fucking corporations doubling down on tech that does nothing but make bad (sometimes funny) memes, deep fake political battles/porn and running artists of every industry out of a job. Tech that no one really even wants!

2 years ago | Likes 115 Dislikes 6

There be plenty of people that want ai porn ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cyberpunk mega corps future is locked in it seems.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

We don't get Skynet. We don't get Vault-Tec. We don't get the Cyberpunk corpos. We get Buy-N-Large, without the cute robots and hoverchairs. Or escape luxury liner.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Frankly it's not even running anyone out of any jobs, it's just used as a pretence to pay the people in those jobs less, and as an extremely thinly veiled attempt at circumventing copyright.

I want it. One of my two life goals has been able to draw well. Primarily character art. While I have the practical skill and have practiced shapes and stuff it became obvious to me at some point that something was wrong. Eventually I learned aphantasia is a thing and y'all seeing shit in your head and then I understood why every artist was confused af when I asked how they knew what to draw, where to start a drawing, what shapes to use, how to make a character without seeing it, etc. >

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

> I want to see the characters and cities and landscapes and such that I "paint" in words to so many that I narrate or DM for. I want to see scenes with characters captured in their most amazing moments! And I don't want to have to pay hundreds of dollars to see it all and I've learned that if it isn't right in front of me I have no idea how to draw it, no matter how much I try, how much advice I get or where I get it from, so much of art, of drawing, requires mental vision that I just lack.

I mean, the internet runs on porn, so it's little surprise that AI runs on it, too.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You forgot cats. But you ain't exactly wrong. However weird this might sound porn has been responsible for a lot of innovation in things like 3D for example.

Deep fake political porn? Hmmmm...

Example of tech nobody wants: Tesla finally (after six years of trying) figured out the "neural network" that can make windshield wipers auto-sensing. Rather than having to flip a lever or push a button to turn on the wipers, they'll come on without you having to do shit.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

My Mercedes has that on it, and it's a 2017.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apparently it's been a thing for like 20 years, but Tesla wants to pretend it's brand new because they did it with AI.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure absolutely zero people wanted that.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

One person wanted that. And I'll bet you can guess who.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I always thought the point of a business was to give customers what THEY want. Then again, he's convinced them that what he wants is what they want, so...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's very impressive of Tesla. Considering my dad's five year old car (not a Tesla) already does that. It can even sense the intensity of the rain and adjust the frequency, and it even has a lever if you want to do any of that manually.

It's a quality of life thing. It's not necessary, but since it's already there, why not use it. It's like seat warmers - you can live without them, but they feel good when it's below zero and you get in the car and the whole seat starts pumping heat into you.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Audi?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My 2005 car has rain sensing wipers. That tech is old enough to vote.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My 2007 Mercedes does that

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...first car I had with auto wipers, with variable wipe was built in 2005, and launched in 2001, it's pretty old tech now *nods*

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Other auto manufacturers had been doing the same thing for literally 20 years, and we're supposed to think Tesla is somehow better because it's done with AI. Make that make sense?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So it took them six years to do something that other auto manufacturers had already managed when they started? That's pathetic. "Oh, but we did it with AI!" Big deal.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Which means they didn't have a fucking leg to stand on until they prompted ChatGPT to figure out their mistakes.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tbf that sums up pretty much everything Tesla's ever done. "We did X thing that every other car company has dome before, usually for cheaper and/or just better already, but also our manufacturing sucks so much ass our cars will fall apart and/or explode violently on you." and then they have the gall to call themselves leaders in the field for conning shitloads of people

decent chance we'll be ok. odds that we are living at the apex of society is low.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

Decent chance it won't be the worst as that would time some time. But the ball is rolling and few are truly trying to stop it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't think of it like a snowball. Think of it like waves. Because that's what it is. "Good times bad times, you know I've had my share"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

With the policies Republicans are trying to push, it's a snowball, not a wave.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

history would disagree

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Who is “we?” What do you define as “ok?” Because I can’t think of a single time when “we” have been “ok” in the way I would define those terms and I certainly can’t see any reason why - with even the most generous definitions - you should be so confident that we will be.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

oh. well if you think life has never been worth living for the average person at any point in history then I'm not sure why you would worry about the list of things in the above image.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Have you ever heard of a straw man argument?

ok
